Preorder placed at Steam! Also here hoping that it unlocks at 12 midnight on Thursday night. It'll download overnight and I'll be able to play it with a cup of coffee on my Friday holiday morning.  icon_smile

I believe they're offering preload a few days before the release.

I'm kind of torn now.  I was going to go PC (and probably still will) but the allure of gaming from my couch is so damn attractive with the elder scroll series!

Question - is there a way to override the Steam install folder for one game? Or do you think Skyrim will allow you to install outside of the usual Steam install folder? I'd love to put Skyrim on my SSD drive, but I have Steam pointed to a much larger drive for usual game use.

Steam forums are down, but you might want to check this out when they get back up: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=664376

or check this out: http://ridgacre.wordpress.com/2010/12/22/steam-ssd-and-mklink/

never tried it myself, so I'm not sure.  when I put in my new SSD I just put Steam on it and I'm limiting myself to the number of games installed at any given time.

I was just going to say the same thing.

I would be remiss to point out that, with exception to the tumor that must be crushing the area in your fiancee's brain that would otherwise give her the ability to comprehend the world about her (and have access to her obviously absent olfactory senses), that most living things recognize I am much more suitable to lick than you.

Yeah I'm getting this day 1 as well. Been playing old stuff lately and just want to see some state of the art stuff. If it shares Oblivion's faults I can't run back here and blame Ceekay. Wish I could though.

I always get fairly excited about the release of these games, but like Oblivion I doubt I'll finish it. I'm usually enthralled with it for the first few days, but something happens and the bottom falls of it. I'm hoping Skyrim keeps me entertained at least for one complete play through.

I should be getting my GTX 580 superclocked card tomorrow...so it will be fun putting it through its paces with Skyrim.

I can't get it day 1, 2 or 10.  I'm going to wait a good long while on this one before picking it up.  Bethesda games and I don't tend to get along very well, though we should.  Too many bugs (all of 'em), too aimless (Oblivion), horrible interfaces (Oblivion), too stupid (Fallout 3's ending), etc., there's always something I find maddening about their stuff.  After the expansions - including the one that actually had the motherfucking ending in it - I grew to really like FO3.

It looks like the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I'll wait and see...

I end up the exact same way.  In the end I always get super excited for the next game thinking "this one will be different".  And then the exact same thing happens.

That said, I am pretty sure this one will be different.

Fallout 3 was the first Bethesda game I finished.  I goofed off too much in Morrowind and Oblivion and didn't finish either, even though I probably put 40-60 hours into both.  It's really pathetic that I couldn't stay focussed enough to finish either game.  I really enjoy sandbox games, but I think I need the structure of more scripted games.  Hopefully Skyrim will be the 2nd Bethesda game that I finish.

are you not in EST?  I think they announced that it unlocks at midnight EST now, which means other time zones get an earlier release which means a 10th release for most of the US.

Actually, its using a Perks system, where it seems like levelling is merely an indicator on when you can select a new perk, and what kind of perks you can select, is based on what you have levelled.

Now, the real question: who will be playing Skyrim this weekend while wearing a loincloth made from a dish rag (or, in my case, a beach towel) and sporting a bucket on their head with horns stuck on the sides and made out of sticks from the yard?

So I haven't been following the Skyrim bandwagon and I'm sure this has been answered, but what's the word on level scaling mobs ala Oblivion?  I'm guessing they probably went the Fallout route and have some scaling but not as extreme?

It's the fallout system. From what I understand you can go anywhere, but some mobs may be too high for you. Like those death things almost right at the beginning of new vegas.

So you should feel like you're actually getting more powerful this time around too.

Is there any particular new feature or two that people are excited about in this sequel?  I'm excited to play this, but only because hey!  Another Elder Scrolls game!  I don't know what sets this apart from Morrowind & Oblivion other than graphics.

I think the promise of a revised leveling system, a Fallout style perk path for a refined RPG upgrade experience, and what will hopefully be a better stealth system is what's getting me excited...well, that and towns full of people who don't look like Mickey Roarke's character from Sin City.

I read the combat was improved considerably.  There's no more traditional class system, which is good or bad depending on your POV.  Werewolves are back.  And there are supposedly lots of dragons!

After looking at the screenshots, I'm impressed. This is a marked upgrade from their last title.

I mean, everyone overlooked the horrid graphics and it was well received enough to get the coveted PC Gamer UK's "Game of the Year" award.
