It did look good, but like a few 'great looking' games at this years E3 i am worried about whether gameplay would get old quickly

That's my biggest concern.  If you can't do some of these missions without co-op help then it's going to be a short lived experience.

Yeah, it's kind of worrying how everybody who has gotten their hands on the game has basically the same thing to say.

I was never a fan of the handling in the Test Drive Unlimited games, and finding out those guys are making this one (rather than Reflections as I initially thought) tempers my enthusiasm quite a bit.

I just got my new Game Informer magazine and was pleased and a bit surprised to find that a couple of the new next gen titles (CoD: Ghosts and Need For Speed:Rivals) along with some others are being released for current consoles as well as next generation. Could we expect this game to be also released that way, or is it next gen and PC only?

So apparently a stripped down version of this will be offered for free for PS4 for those with PS+? I'll be up for that. I figure that if a couple of F2Ps launch at the same time and with this game I'll be able to enjoy the new system without needing to buy any games right away. smile

Well, it looks like this has been delayed along with Watch Dogs, now targeting the next fiscal year sometime (April 2014 - March 2015).

Hopefully this gives them time to tighten up the handling that so many people have mentioned is less than ideal.

on the plus side, if they release this in May it might not have any big MP competitors for a few months.

I tried this out at E3 today and overall I'm still not completely sold, mostly on the handling.  It wasn't terrible, but hopefully I get in the PC beta next month and can try out more cars.

The demo they gave had me do two missions (with two other random people in my crew), the first one driving a "Perf" road car (looked like there were 6 car categories).  I didn't really want to waste time customizing so I just chose one of the premade Mustangs they had and started tooling around the city.  I have been playing a lot of Watch Dogs and Forza 5 lately, so it's not like I'm rusty on driving but I just couldn't get this car to drive really well.  It felt a bit mushy/unresponsive and kept understeering when cornering but then fishtailing when trying to go straight, so kind of the worst of two worlds.  Maybe I just chose a "bad" car for me, though, so it's hard to judge the whole game by that.  However, none of our 3 people finished the race against the AI, for what it's worth.

The second half of the demo was better with the offroad stuff.  I got to drive a Raid-style RUF which was cool.  This mission was a chase with all 3 of us trying to destroy some other Raid truck by ramming it.  We went all over the place and really got to feel like it was open world, but since we had to load into the mission and load out (through a mini cutscene transition) I'm not sure if you really could just keep driving at that point or not.

From what I could get out of the guy there, you can't actually upgrade every car to be crazy Raid offroad style or slammed or whatever, it's only certain kinds.  Which sort of rains on my excitement a bit since I thought you could take any car and make it a crazy offroad monster.  Who doesn't want a Ferrari with 34" mud tires?

Haha, then you're luckier than me.  smile  I wish they would extend these beta weeks into the weekend, but so far no luck.  Hopefully as it gets closer to release they will.

Not having participated in a closed beta before, are there restrictions to publicly posting comments? I didn't see any mention of an NDA, but then I didn't read through the multiple pages of the license  Roll Eyes

They removed the NDA towards the end of the last beta period, so I'm assuming that still goes for now.  Feel free to talk about it all you want.

Care to elaborate?  What didn't you like about it?  How much or what parts did you play?

I like the idea of the huge open world to drive around in with tons of activities and missions, so I'll likely give it a try.  I wasn't a huge fan of the handling for some of the cars in the previous beta, but others felt fine once I got used to them.  I'm hoping these early betas are giving them enough feedback to polish things that people complain about consistently.

Here's what I posted on the Uplay The Crew forum last night:

Quote
I've just put in my first two hours on The Crew and I'm fine with the driving model, which I'm mentioning up front because a lot of folks seem to be unhappy with it. Sure, it's not Forza, but it doesn't need to be. I've played a lot of GTA, TDU1 and TDU2 and just recently Watch_Dogs and I really don't find the driving model here any harder to adapt to. I'm using a 360 controller and I'm pretty consistently winning races against the AI, and considering how crappy a video racer I am, it just says that the folks who are having troubles need to approach the game a bit differently. The cars do throttle steer pretty well, which means you can set up a nice drift into a corner and use power to keep the tail from sliding out. Also using boost just as you clear the apex helps keep the car from rotating. Also, folks need to remember that the initial cars don't perform as well as they will once you start adding the upgrades; you just have to adjust your style. I used the default assists setting at first, tried Hardcore but found that was too hard with a controller, so now I'm using the Sport setting although I might go back to the default handling setting.

On the graphics front, the game looks really nice. I'm getting a consistent, rock solid 30 fps (as measured by FRAPS). No stuttering, no hesitation, really just a nice smooth view no matter whether I'm stopped at a light or in the middle of a race. I'm running at 1980x1200 with the graphics all at High or Ultra; my rig has a GTX780 card and an i7-4770k processor.

The missions played solo are pretty straightforward. Playing coop is ok, although either I don't know how to get out of a mission properly once complete or maybe my crew mate was launching us back into the same mission over and over; I had to just use the "start" mention to abort the mission a couple of times.

The radio stations are uninspiring, but that might be because my tastes run towards the Beach Boys and the Dave Clark Five . Environmental noises seem ok, although I'm mostly just hearing a V8 at full song which is ok with me.

That's it for now, it's late and I want to get in a few more minutes of playing before I call it a night.

A developer then posted this:
Quote
Great stuff jztemple just so you know, while the beta is locked to 30fps, the finished game should enable you to get into 60fps providing an even smoother experience

honestly I wasn't able to play long enough to really see much of the game.  After my first graphic hiccup got me killed (slight lag, then recovered and I went straight off road and flipped) I thought no big deal, it happens I'll just retry.  I click retry and it starts over at the cutscene and WON'T LET ME SKIP IT.  Every time I want to retry, I have to watch 10-15 seconds of cutscene followed by 3-5 seconds of 'pre-race racing' that I am not controlling.  That got old sooooo fast I just turned it off.  Unskippable cutscenes, especially at a check point and repeatable is an automatic no-go for me.  Takes an incredible game for me to look past that and this didn't have a chance to convince me before this happened.

Hmm, for me, down at the bottom right of the screen was the notation "skip movie" every time a cut scene came up, or at least every time I remember. I am using a 360 controller where "B" is the button to skip the movies and I'd just mash B as soon as a cut scene would start.

I tried all the buttons (also on a 360 controller).  Maybe only that scene is unskippable, but since it was the first one it struck a chord in me,
