Ultima designer and Origin co-founder Richard "Lord British" Garriott even worked an EA reference into Ultima VII (1992). Two high-profile nonplayer characters, Elizabeth and Abraham, perform seemingly helpful tasks for the player - but E. and A. turn out to be murderers in league with the player's nemesis, the Guardian. The three items that power the Guardian's evil generators are a cube, a sphere and a tetrahedron - the former EA logo.

What an incredibly SAD story. Origin was one of the best game companies in its heyday. Just about every old-time PC gamer holds the Ultima series (up to U7 at least) near and dear to their hearts. Wing Commander too.

Of course, this is yet another example of how EA is the anti-christ in the game industry. The sad thing is that the politics and bureaucracy there is not unique just to EA. It's that way in a lot of huge mega-corporations. As an ex-employee of Microsoft, I can attest to that.

I haven't read the story yet but I will say The Escapist has some of the best game-related writing on the net.

Besides ConsoleGold of course.

I just read it myself. Quite a read. Sad too. I loved Origin and miss thier games. Fuck EA and all thier sequels.

For those wondering how to read the story go down to the bottom and hit TEXT to view it.
