At the same time though, there's more commonalities.

Superior alien force attacks humanity, often involving ancient alien technology with a pseudo religious theme, and yes, it also often involves alien superweapons.  Heck, what I Just described could be Mass Effect.

Pretty much Half Life 2.

Half-Life and Half-Life 2 have virtually no religious content, themes, or allusions.

Half Life 2:  Gordon returns to the Earth to lead mankind to Salvation is about all that I can think of.

Yeah, you beat me to it. It's nearly the story of Jesus. He's brought down the save mankind "and will come again" when he's needed. I beleive those words will in the last scene of the game. After you "die to save all humans."

(Wheel of Time has about 12 major support characters, whereas Sword of Truth has maybe 5; Halo has 1 (cortana) and Halo2 has 2 (cortana & arbiter).

In the religious aspect of Halo, MC would be the anti-christ. He's not the saviour, he's a supersoldier defending mankind from religious zealots. Those zealots and their faction do NOT see him as a saviour.

Oh, and I would agree with Brendan. The MP portion of Halo3 brings the expectations of MP FPS's to a whole new level.

Non-team jackasses are usually 80% of the kids I play with in my experience. Halo3 is nearly unplayable for me now.

Did you play the Beta? how much time did you put into it?

I was not a big fan of the jackass quotient in Halo2; Halo3 seems to have taken all the right steps to stem the tide of (seemingly) prepubescent boys making the MP arena a nuissance. In my 30 or 40 games of MP Halo3 beta, I ran into 2 jackasses. I muted them and flagged them as undesirable, and I was never paired with them again.

I also built more than a few excellent "parties" in their open party structure. Think of it as pub-crawl bus that lets you pick up the cool people and move on to the next bar (in this case, game). The more you play the better the experience gets. Oh, and it's murder on your friends list.

So you can have 4 player coop in either 2x2, 2,1,1, or 1,1,1,1. (each number represents a console and a copy of the game).

Of course, you can have story mode SP or less than 4... and there are rally points where everyone goes through to move forward (I would guedss) so you don't have the coop popup like you used to.

I'm going to try and only do co-op with some friends.  They're something about discovering neat stuff when you're in a group that makes it more fun than playing alone.

Doubt we'll do the 'get-gears-play-til-we-finish-the-game' thing that smurff and I did.  That was 7-odd hours of much fun.

Halo is my favorite game series ever I WILL be there; WoW be damned.

Assuming that the campaign is as fun as I expect it to be, I'll be more than willing to play through several times.  I miss the days/nights of GRAW and R6.

I'm definitely going to play through the campaign by myself first, I don't want to have to rush through any story elements or skip cutscenes because I know the person I'll be playing co-op with doesn't care about that stuff. I'm really excited about this game, I'm not really playing WoW much anymore so perhaps this game can step in for my multiplayer needs.

That is why I play co-op with people I know.  Most of  the people I play MP with from the boards are the types who like to watch the cutscenes, take their time, like I do.  Excepting Papa smurff at times.
