I'm on my 4th. Thank you Costco (and ultimately MS, as they're the ones who bear the final price thanks to Costco's contracts).
Ditto on the CostCo thing. I'm on my 3rd 360 and having the free Costco replacement plan is the only thing that gives me some peace of mind.

#: 1 Streak: 9 months
Current issues: Will refuse to maintain connection with the wireless controllers, reset required Will drop the headset connection regardless of controller connected Throws error codes of various types ... when the ROL decides to work.. Turning off the console via controller will result in an auto reboot. I usually pull the power cord out of the back when I'm done for the night.
I'm praying for the RROD so I can get a replacement.

# - 3 Streak - 14 months
The first two exchanges were done using the Best Buy replacement plan. Before my second one died however, MS extended the warranty on the 360 and it was made somewhat comparable to the BB replacement plan. I opted to forego the BB plan in favor of the MS warranty and use that extra 50 bucks that would've gone to the BB plan to get an Elite.
So far, so good. Although I have absolute faith that this system will eventually go belly up. I use it for so many damn things that it's not even funny. It's my dvd player, my digital media player (both audio and video) and my gaming console. Microsoft created a very shoddy console and maintained that level of shoddiness for more than a few generations. However, they did such a friggin' stellar job with Live and the extended functionality of the 360 that I'm sure I'll keep on replacing the damn things as they break.
I just hope they eventually create one that actually isn't pre programmed to fail.

You missed a great opportunity to blame your faulty Xbox for your Call of Duty K:D ratio. Well, that stems from a faulty "controller" issue.

4 total.
My launch unit died in Feb of 2006, ~14 months old. The replacement is still chugging along after 34 months.
I bought a second 360 for the office in Jan of 2007 which died in July of 2008, roughly 18 months old. The replacement is also still working ok after 4 months.

I actually proactively traded in my last one, since I could hear the drive grinding away merrily. Instead of waiting for it to die...I just traded it in. I find absolutely nothing wrong with that, as again, Costco just gets their money refunded from MS...and it's MS' fault they put forth such a poorly constructed product.

Wild theory: is there any correlation between RROD and the room temperature where it is stored? Mine is in the basement where it is always cool even during summer and I live in Toronto where even summers are relatively mild. Most of the time, you have to wear a sweater in my basement because the heating is not very good down there.

Heat is certainly one of the main factors in 360 failure, so a low ambient temperature can only help

I'm sure that ambient temperature can be a factor. I had overheating problems with one unit during a heat wave, and found that if I stopped cheaping-out and actually turned on the central air conditioning - the problem was solved. I'm not sure how to figure out my "longest streak" because I've had a few problems along the way that were solved by various means, and we've swapped hard drives on them once also, but these are the details: One launch unit bought - November, 2005 Another soon after - February or March, 2006.Since the XBL big update, "my" 360 has been freezing up, usually at startup. The second one was overheating, just not all the way to RRoD. I ordered a new 60GB HD for mine, and a new Arcade unit for the other. I put the Arcade unit with the HD that had no problems, and it seems fine. However... When I gave mine the 60 GB HD, everything was perfect... for one day. The next day, it "froze" again at startup, but I left it while I did something else for 5 minutes - when I came back, it had gone through to signing me in and being ready to go. Now I don't know what the heck is happening. So, in 3 years (give or take a few months), we've had 2 units, "one" of which (by halves, lol) failed, and was replaced, essentially with one new Arcade and HD. I think I'll be able to fix the freezing one, as I now have a variety of ways to mix and match the pieces.

....not a single problem. And it gets played all the time (720p, optical out, placed flat for several years and upright since).
