You Xboners and PSfourthers stay out.  You folks who bought one but are waiting until Christmas to open it?  Well, I guess you can stay for a while, but don't hog the snack table.  Wii Umans?  Yeah, you belong here.  You over there, you don't even want a next-gen console?  Get out of here.

Ok, down to business.

Farley2k says that this chart helps somehow:

So be sure to look at it for some amount of time.

My approach?  I'm making a list of well-loved 360/PS3 generation games that I never got around to trying.  I'll be able to get these old games for pennies on the dollar (thanks for almost making that "penis on the dollar," autocorrect!) and I'm sure to find hundreds of hours of fun out of these games and it's the logical why won't this hollow feeling inside go away?  I must haves the new generation...

Sorry, where was I?  Oh yes, last-gen games I never got around to playing.  Titles pulled from our recent "best game of the generation" type threads and other such lists on the internet. Rules: I'll start working through these games, and if I actually manage to clear the list before getting a next-gen console, I lose.

  • Nier
  • Halo Wars
  • Prototype
  • Infamous series
  • Mass Effect 3 last third of the game (never finished)
  • Forza 4
  • Magna Carta 2
  • El Shaddai
  • Dust: Elysium Tale
  • Viva Pinata
  • Drink myself to sleep at night
  • Just Cause 2
  • Earth Defense Force 20somethingorother
  • Gears of War 3
  • Halo 4
  • Halo Reach
  • Starhawk
  • Thomas Was Alone
  • Guacamelee
  • Flower

I too have a ton of games I want to finish before I think about a next gen console.  Considering how often I actually finish a game it is kind of laughable that I even look at the next generation.

You're allowed to lament the lack of access to the other console, but you may not express joy about the one you have.

Yeah, same here.  Even if I ignore the titles listed above, if I look at my existing backlog and prune out all but my A-list 'really want to play this' titles, I've got months and months of gaming already on my plate.  And that's with me also being excited about stuff like the new Zelda coming out that I'm eager to add to the list.  Oh, not to mention all the early access games I signed up for that I like to play when new patches hit.

Do we really need a support group?  I feel like we’re in better shape than the people who are buying the new consoles.  icon_razz

So far all the reviews on the system exclusives have been pretty mediocre.  As it stands right now it will probably be at least 6 months before the first *must have* games come out for the systems.

There's also a part of my brain that's glad I get to wait and see if the PS4 defect issues are actually something to worry about or just a statistical blip, and see if Microsoft learned their lesson about hardware QA after the 360.

My name is Laner, and I have not purchased a next-gen console.

Not to say I don't want one, I just don't have that kind of money lying around at the moment, particularly with Christmas bearing down on us.  And due to Steam/PS+/Xbox sales I have literally hundreds of games I have yet to finish.

If backwards compatibility was included, or proper DLNA support out of the box for the PS4, I would be more inclined to jump in early.  But for the moment I'm OK to wait.

The last couple of console cycles, I was desperate to have one on day 1.... even to the point of paying a $200 premium from a seller to land an Xbox 360 right away. But this year is different. I'm completely content with PC gaming at the moment. My rig, while not cutting edge, still plays most things at top or near-top settings, and the games are plentiful and cheap (wake me when Humble Bundles come to the console). As a result, I don't feel the same urgency to pick up a new console like I've had in the past. Honestly, the big draw for me at this point is not the games, per se, as they don't seem overly compelling yet, but the other media features of the Xbox One. But I'm content to see how these are received by the public before deciding whether it warrants a purchase. By then, better games should be available too... ideally, ones that I couldn't buy form my PC even cheaper.

Does having a Wii U count? Because I'm pretty much going PC/Nintendo this gen, and if there are any exclusives I'm missing on the PS4/Xbone, c'est la vie.

I lament the fact that I won't be able to play The Last of Us on my juicy, hot, sleek, mouth-watering PS4 and use the nifty streaming functionality to share my adventure with others.

It sucks.   You guys can play the hell out of The Last of Us whilst I'll be stuck with Knack.

I've never been a day-1 console buyer but I'm not feeling any desire for the new systems.  My Ps3 hasn't been turned on in months and that was to watch a BluRay movie.  I'm amazingly content with PC gaming.

Although my tune may change next spring when the new version of MLB: The Show appears.  Why can't we have an action baseball game for the PC?   crybaby

what about those who want one but ..
A)it isn't out yet in our region of the world
B)will get both, but need time to get the pennies together and when we do have our nice new shiny next gen consoles we will drop the current(last)gen consoles like yesterdays diapers*

*is that even the saying?  icon_lol

I have a personal target for the 360,I am still hoping i will get 100k in Achievement score before i pick up the XbOne,I am currently on 97k,and have Batman:AO,AC4,COD:G and Aliens:CM to play..if i am lucky i can average about 500 score from each game ..so its going to be hard to do,as i have no more 360 games i want at the moment(stick of truth next year) icon_confused

Actually,i did want to look into Deadfall Adventures a First Person Tomb Raider/Uncharted/Indiana Jones game set in the H.Rider Haggard Quartemain world(I think you play some relation to Quartemain, which sounds very Drake to me)..but looking on Metacritic, there isn't a review that is over 50%  icon_confused

I often lament the fact that I probably won't get a new console until sometime in 2014, but then again, the big games I'm very interested in are coming out for PC and not until early 2014 at best either. The Division and Watch Dogs. Well, three if you count Titanfall which I probably will.

Yes, you definitely belong.  I too am looking to have more pennies together so that my purchase does not make my bank account and my wife look at me like I'm insane.

Such a beautiful game, with such bad combat.  Seriously I wanted so much for me and my kids to play this through because of the art, the story, etc. but it was so annoying we just couldn't.

However my oldest often says "flipp'en guardian!" when he is annoyed.!

And for us in the 'no next gen console' support group, my impressions of the next gen launch games:

Ryze: Tired-old-ass-cliched Roman fighting game.

Forza 5: Shiny racer that no one will be playing in two months, or even remember in a year.

Call Of Duty: Ghosts: Gunfights in space? wtf?! ZZZzzZZZZzzzZZZzzz!

Killzone: Shadow Fall: Oh, so pretty! (shoot at something once) ZZZZzzzZZZzzzZZzzz!

NFL 14, NBA 14, FIFA 14 or any other sports game: If you're a sports fan--OMG!! ROAAR!! If you're not a sports fan like me: ZZzzzZZZzzZZzzzzzz!

Dead Rising 3: Hordes of Zombies in Vegas! Coolness!! But with Kinect and only on the Xbone? Suckness!!!

Knack: Kinda cool and cute.. but also kinda ZzzzZZzz.

Battlefield 4: Kinda nice, but.. look, it's on the PC with 64 player multiplayer instead! Why bother to play it on a console!

Need For Speed: Rivals: Look! Another shiny racing game no one will give a shit about in two months!

Destiny: Kinda cool.. but Delayed! DAMN IT!

Watch Dogs: Very cool, but Delayed! DAMN IT!!

Infamous: Second Son: Very, very cool, but Delayed! Triple DAMN IT!!!

I can afford them both but there really isn't anything on them I'd enjoy playing. Its quite possible I may never make the next-gen jump as I'm rather content gaming on the 3ds for a hour before bed most evenings. I suppose I'm just getting old but the leap in visuals doesn't really do it for me anymore.

Similar here, but it sure would be neat to play a PS4 game on the Vita before bed instead of the 3DS.

But yeah, even if I had every console tomorrow, the new 3DS Zelda is what I'd be most excited about playing.

I upgraded my video card to stave off buying a console I would rarely use.  Man, I really wish I had the One to install and see how it works so that I could then ignore it for months.  It's strange how that curiosity/shiny new thing works.
