I had skipped the previous demo but went ahead and grabbed the newer one...
Erm, not very impressed. First of all, for such a lovely location (Oahu), it's an ugly game. I don't know what they're going for, but everything looks muddy. I remember Oahu (went about 8 years ago) to be colorful, bright and beautiful, but the graphics for this game make it look pretty ugly. Doesn't hold a candle to PGR3.
I've driven a car and the motorcycle and I didn't really like the way they handled. The inside-view is nice, but I rarely, if ever, use that camera angle when playing racing games.
Collision detection is weird. I TAPPED, and I mean TAPPED into a vehicle and the police indicator icon lit up. Was pretty shocked when that happened.
The idea is cool, I was racing around with other people and some car slammed into me. I even competed in a race with 7 other players, which was neat, except one guy had no idea how to indicate he was ready so we sat there for a good 3 minutes...
I doubt I'll purchase the game after some limited playtime with the demo.

Interestingly enough, the XBox Live demos have so far more convinced me to not buy more games than it has convinced me to buy (or want to buy). Pretty much the only one I've played so far that has made me want the full game was Lost Planet. And that won't be out until next year!

I have to agree. It seemed like it should be impressive but I found the cars were really "floaty" and the engine sounds (I used the Mustang) were kinda high-pitched and weak. Not that impressed.

I drove that Mustang for a year and a half, the in-game version isn't even in the ballpark. The demo definitely lessened my enthusiasm. I will probably still get it as NFS: Carbon is a long ways off and $40 is cheap enough hehe.

Dude, the sound of the Ninja's engine is enough to mute the game. Talk about annoying.

I think the cars feel better than in the previous demo, but I'm still not that enthused about this one.

I played the previous demo and was entirely unimpressed. I didn't feel compelled to download this newer version, and you aren't convincing me otherwise.

I haven't played the newer version, but I thought the old one was completely unimpressive, and sported a pretty awful set of controls. The cars felt awful.

It's better than before, but still not on par with other 360 racers.
But here's the weird thing..... My son is playing the demo right now, and we're hearing a conversation between two people. Not over the headset but with game audio. Very odd.

If you're signed in to live.. you're playing with other people whether you want to or not. They're in the free-roam with you. The second demo is an improvement of the first, but it's still really bad. The cars handle like they've got backseats full of bricks, the motorcycle feels terrible, the visuals are ugly (compare the terrain with the Just Cause demo..) and the car sounds are bad. Combine that with a physics system that won't let you do anything fun with your car, it just teleports you right back to the road the instant something crazy starts happening, and all the other little oddities... It's just bad. I'd lean more towards awful actually.

Well as you can see on my gamertag, I wasn't signed in. Regardless why am I hearing audio from other people over my speakers (versus the headset). If that's some kind of "feature" it's a horrible one.

the first demo was so-so...but i went ahead and downloaded this.... for about the first 5 minutes or so i didnt see anyone else so i was just screwing it around the lovely island(yes i think the graphics are good) then i saw another couple of players...and soon enough there was about 5 of us all ramming each other of the road and having our own games of cat and mouse
i didnt opt for any of the actual races though
but i was smiling alot during the game,so may pick this up

Game was all sorts of buggy on me. At one point it switched my view to behind another players car. Then his car dropped through the ground and kept flashing above and below the ground.

I thought the car/character graphics were pretty well done, and I like the whole customizable crib thing they are doing. That said, although the game seems to play a little bit better than the previous demo it still leaves a lot to be desired. My #1 complaint is the tracks themselves. Sure, it's kind of cool to have a free form island to drive around in ala NFS:MW, but most of the road layouts is fairly boring.
I dunno, if they include the Charger in the car list I might pick it up, otherwise I guess I'll just hold out for Forza.

That's my plan at the moment, though I honestly expect to see a delay on Forza until closer to christmas or maybe even into early next year. I'll be picking up the new Need for Speed when it comes out though, as I'm pretty sure the new Challenger will be in it

I dunno, I think if you're not having fun in this demo it's due to user error. I probably spent 20-30 minutes yesterday finding people, holding down the horn, and pushing them around the road. My fiancee and I were laughing like crazy. Got into a pushing duel with Ferrari on Ferrari. (i won since i was pushing him down hill) Doesn't handle as tight as Burnout, but then again nothing does. I had enough fun to think about picking it up for 39.99 (a sort of rare price for 360 titles)

How utterly absurd. The vast majority of people in this thread have laid out concrete reasons why the game does not look good, from the graphics, to the car models, to the performance, the handling of the cars, and more. Maybe we are missing the "fun", but the game just isn't very good.
