So, has anyone for realsies set up a server for this yet? I'd love to try out multiplayer.
BTW, my Terraria story: I started on a large map, then went to a medium map and now I'm on a small map and digging it. I can't wait to see what these guys roll out in future updates, because it seems like they (mostly) have their head on straight.

My goblin invasion sucked. I just got gold and spiked balls. No rocket boots, no harpoons. Oh well, I'm sure there will be another one. My new (green) lightsaber will keep me happy for now.

Ouch, I'm surprised. Are you sure your bags weren't full and a nice set of rocket boots aren't lying in a ditch somewhere, lol? It's happened to me quite a few times. Also, I prefer this wiki over the one posted before. Yeah, I like the setup of that page more so than the other.

New patch! Version 1.0.4 adds new enemies (plus bunnies!) and the ability to wear clothes over your armor, so that your appearance isn't affected by what armor you're wearing.

Bunnies were the first creature I saw. Didn't realize they were new.
Haven't really gotten into this yet, as the interface is a little awkward at the moment. That plus slimes showing up constantly, and my not having auto-pause set to "on" as I tried to figure out what I was doing. Expecting my next attempt should go a little better.
But hey, it was only $10 and with patches still coming out adding new "stuff", I'm pretty sure I'll get my money's worth.

I'm still quite into it. My next adventure is trying to locate and steal a Hellforge.
I don't have all the uber uber weapons, but i do have a space gun, star cannon (yea that's uber, if you have the stars for ammo) and thorn wreath and ebonstone axe and nightmare pick now along with full shadow armor.
Working on a meteor set to use with the space gun.
The dungeon and jungle are quite challenging with the neverending crazy monster spawns, especially in 1.04.
dynomite sure is the greatest thing:P It's the only way to easily mine metors for one thing....and good grief i hate those teleporting fire demons. They don't spawn in a minimal size tunnel, but the trick to mining hellstone then is getting that minimal size tunnel going in a spot you can find again with 20 fire demons teleporting around shooting fireballs at you!
This game is just downright fun. I'm not sure how long the fun will last though without rapid content updates and a nice fun largeass persistent multiplayer server....once you've obtained the greatest gear...there's not much to do except just build 2d buildings.

It's the only way to easily mine meteors for one thing Make getting the Hellstone pick your priority. Then you can position yourself so that the pick hits the Meteor heads while you mine. Oddly enough, you can have your back to the place you are mining, as long as the cursor is placed where you want to hit. It is a little tricky, but I largely ignore the Meteor heads now.

Hellstone requires Meteor based tools or higher to mine now.

Ah... well, that makes sense. But you should be able to make a Nightshade pick by killing a boss, that should still work.

This is soo not my type of game. Hate platformers, not a fan of building games. Yet I have been reading about this all over the net and pulled the trigger at about 1 am last night. About to fire it up and see what it's about. wish me luck!

I think you're going to need it since you don't seem to like the foundation on which the game was built.

Same. The building aspect is simple enough so far that I am not getting frustrated with it. I is a charming little game that has me saying 'just a bit longer' every time I play. I did have to restart a couple times and am now doing some world hopping to find easy resources. Does the guide follow you if I decide to build me first house far away from initial spawn point? He died in one of my starts, is that a bad/permanent thing? Not sure he brings anything to the table except 'tips'.

Yes, the guide will follow. No idea what happens if he dies.
On a side note, I built a safe house down at the bottom of the stone layer and, unfortunately, my arms dealer moved into it when I spawned him. This is kind of a pain to have my NPCs so split apart. I'd say pick a good spot to build your home base. Eventually, you will be able to change your spawn point and this will make a big difference.

I've been playing this almost obsessively for the last week. I just wrapped up my first medium sized world and started a new large one. I've already built a tower fortress and started on a mine going straight done to the bottom so I can mine hellstone and obsidian. A very addictive game, can't wait to see where they take it from here. Here's a shot of home base, along with the beginnings of the mine below:

lol I did the exact same thing. You can fix this by removing the furniture and doors and luring a bunch of monsters up to the now "un safe house" They will eventually kill the arms dealer and he will respawn where you have an available home for him.

Real men make their houses out of gold and silver blocks with respective walls. And light them with hellstone encased in glass (you also have to have torches to get them to move in).
I even make an ebenstone house until I realized it spawns those nasty flying minions when you do that. I have enough that is even changes the sky and music a tad to be in the bottom layer!

I have been playing this over the last week and while I am enjoying it, I feel that I am getting to a point where it is loosing it's fun. I have mined down to 'Hell' where I quickly die, I found some corruption but don't know if I can/should do anything with it. I found the old man and fought the boss at night, but just quickly died. Found a sky... land/island/whatever you call it, but the damn Harpys kill me pretty quickly. So I guess I need to upgrade my equipment at this point. I have a gold broadsword and I think some iron protective gear. Do I really just need to spend all my time mining for more gold to upgrade everything before I can move on?

Where does one obtain torches? Is there a torch shoppe? All I found was impassible areas, and when I dug down (discovering a pick axe), I found I could no longer climb up.

Because minecraft has been broken more than working? Broken in what way? When? I don't recall anything specific at the moment except that it was either unplayable (or maybe the serverside I was trying to manage was a mess) when I first discovered terraria. I'm sure minecraft is perfect and flawless now since that was a really long time ago.

Craft torches from wood and something the slimes drop I think. If you dig straight down without making stairs as you go, then you're going to need wood to make platforms you can jump through the bottom of to get out. Or dig diagonally out. Getting wood is the answer to everything.

If you're new to to this sort of thing (ie: didn't play Minecraft), you might want to check out the wiki and at least skim the sections on getting started and Crafting 101 and such. It isn't that complicated once you figure out the basics, but they sure don't give you much to go on with in-game tutorials or anything.

See, and I didn't think this was a crafting game. I think this was a tack-on with another game I purchased on the steam summer sale. I've crafted before (FFXI, WoW). Buyers remorse.
