http://www.gamespot.com/features/6109881/index.html. From the end of the article: But why even look back at System Shock 2 at this point? Because Irrational has been, and it plans to make a related announcement this Friday (tomorrow). The studio has decided that it wishes to further what it started in System Shock 2--to work on games that promote "emergent" gameplay--open-ended exploration that offers many choices and combinations of options to players. You'll see what we mean tomorrow. Be sure to come back then. Sounds like either System Shock 3 or some sort of "spiritual successor" may be announced today.

I've high hopes, but have also prepared myself for the eventual "no, this is not System Shock 3" news.

Or "We like how Dues ex: IW turned out and we would like to do the same thing for the System Shock..." If System Shock gets screwed up like Deus Ex did, I'd go out and shoot myself. Don't ruin another series, please.

OoOOo - "Bioshock"!!
I am extremely interested in what the Irrational boys and girls are brewing! Granted, I'll miss the omipresent grade-a class villian that is SHODAN but who knows what they have in store to re-vitalize the action/rpg sense od absolute dread.
Something to watch closely..

Color me interested in this game. Damn it though, I was hoping to run into Shodan one more time. (runs off to re-install SS2)

I'm actually relatively interested in 'Bioshock'. I thought anything besides System Shock 3 would be a letdown, but this does sound like a spiritual successor.
As mentioned, I'll be sad to not have SHODAN in the game, though.

Sounds very interesting.
BUT.
Has there been any mention of gameplay in relation to how SS2 was? In other words, is this going to be dumbed down via Deus Ex: Invisible War?

It looks amazing. I was a little disappointed that Irrational went on to develop Tribes as I really feel that their biggest strength is in single player games. SS 2 was an amazing game, and I'm actually pretty happy that Bioshock is a totally new game. We get enough sequels in PC gaming, lets have some ideas. And not knowing anything about the enviroment will make the game that much scarier.

(though in the interests of full disclosure I gotta say I bailed on SS1 at the end and never got that far into SS2, but I'm really thinking of picking up again after I finish Kohan II, RTW, and my re-install of PS:T).

SWAT 4 Bioshock Tribes: Vengence Freedom Force vs the Third Reich I wonder what happened to "The Lost" - it's been what, four years since it was announced? It's no longer on their site, but there's a section for it on their message boards...
