I loved the mod, but I hope they mean this will be a companion to HL2, but there's nothing in the announcement that indicates that it is. In fact, as I read the comments, they seem to be suggesting that this will be using a modification of the original HL engine, not Source. Seems to me their energies would be better focused making the game with Source. Seems like it would be counter-productive otherwise, as I can't see many would be wanting to play on such an old engine anymore. They're worried of losing tons of work due to moving to the Source engine, but what they could perhaps do is team up with Project Black Mesa and have them share resources, all the while giving Black Mesa an official Co-Op component.  I'd be far more excited about that than this arriving years too late while everyone else has moved on to Source.

Isn't this a bit late?

Not to mention, the enemies in HL2 rely a lot on scripting, but are otherwise braindead and die quickly, that's not a good recipe for co-op.
