It's supposed to start off slow and pick up steam a little further along, just in case anyone is feeling disheartened in the beginning.

I got a text from GameStop saying the game was available today (Sunday). I didn't bother going to pick it up though. Anyone else?

I picked it up earlier and played through World 1.  Game looks beautiful and 3D is done well.  World 1 was very easy, though, and I got all the level coins in each level the first time through.  I am sure they will get harder to find and hopefully the game difficulty ramps up as well.

I'm up to World 7. So far, I love it. I hear that it's easy to finish World 8 and then the real game starts.

I guess we're using this thread then.

I've never played through an entire World of a Mario game in one sitting before.  Great stuff.

Quick question: I'm only missing one coin so far.  It's the first one in the level with the clouds.  Any pointers?  I thought it might have to do with the logs, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I've finished through World 3 now and World 3 is where I started not finding coins, so it definitely does get harder from that aspect.  Level difficulty itself is still pretty light, though I did have some trouble with the optional level in World 3 before realizing I was being dumb and figuring out how to get the star coin and not die.

Oh, also forgot to say I really love the game and also love the 3D in it.  I wonder if Nintendo had used this as a launch title, if the system would be doing better.  I think it uses the 3D in a nice way and makes the game look cool.  The system is never going to produce 3D that jumps out of your screen like in a movie theater, but it really just is neat to see the world look so solid and allow you to see depth in the game.

The only info is a nebulous "2012." Unfortunately, Earth will be swallowed by the sun then so we won't be able to play it. [citation needed]

Got there myself last night and ran into a poison mushroom.  Was a surprise.  I've gotten all the star coins in Worlds 1-8 and took S1-1 for a spin.  I can tell I will get my wish for a ramp-up in difficulty.

Yeah, it is pretty damned awesome.  This kind of game is why I don't like that iOS games seem to be taking over.

Still loving this game.  I have all star coins up to Special 8-3.  Once I beat the special world and get all the coins and maybe unlock more levels(?), I guess I will go back and try to yellow flag every stage that I haven't done that for.  I'm pretty odd in that I won't play the next level until I get the three coins in the one I am currently working on and I usually try to get the 3 coins on my first run through.  Every once in a while, I realize it would be easier to just take the coins I have and finish and then concentrate on the last one in the level.

All star coins gotten and beat the game a second time with Luigi.  Now, I think I have to go back and just gold flag all the levels and beat them with Luigi and it unlocks some final level.

So there are no MP modes (i.e.: new super Mario bros) that would require me buying 2x copies if I get my kids 3dss for Xmas?

Correct...no multiplayer at all.  You can also have 3 save slots, so they could share the game.

I gold flagged and completed all the first 8 Worlds with Mario and Luigi.  Today I will work on finishing that up for the Special Worlds and will unlock that last level.

Well, I gold flagged everything and beat all levels with Mario and Luigi and unlocked the final stage.  Holy crap is it hard.  However, I was doing it without Tanooki and that makes things much easier, usually, so I will probably go grab those and then come back and give it a whirl.

How does this thread only have 27 posts and mainly between two people?  Is this because of Skyrim? Because the 3DS had such a rough start? Or has handheld gaming fallen by the wayside so badly (or been brushed aside by iOS gaming)?

Where you hit the flag pole at the very top.  On each stage, if you have a little gold flag in the bottom right corner of the top screen, you have done it.

It's really excellent, but I haven't had time to play.  When I do, though, I crank through at least half a world if not a whole one, which is unprecedented for me in these types of games.

Alright, beat that S8-Crown level with both Mario and Luigi and also gold flagged it, so I guess I have 100%ed this game.  Didn't get anything new for doing that last part, except personal satisfaction.  Now to bring on Mario Kart 7 on Sunday!

Do you think this game will be fun for someone who didn't really like the Mario universe (or planet or whatever it's called) games for the Wii?  I think that might be a personal bias to hating Wii games because I loved the original Mario games (NES and SNES).

Did you like Mario on the N64?  It is more like that than the Galaxy games on Wii, though it does have the little bitesized worlds kind of like the Galaxy games.
