Tonight at 5pm Pacific, 1UP is doing a live streaming Q&A segment on Street Fighter IV. Unlike the live segment they did earlier this week where they just drank beer, poorly played Ryu vs. Ken matches over and over, and dismissed forum questions with drunken joke answers, tonight's segment looks like it's geared more to the hardcore community and should have good information. They have a couple members of the Shoryuken forum sitting in, and they'll be pulling some quality questions from the SRK forum instead of just the dumb "can u go over how u block?" questions they had from the 1up forum.

Pug, do you know if a focus attack will absorb a throw (or prevent one) or do you just get thrown?

That's a good question. My guess would be that it won't protect from throws since it's more of a 'super-block' of sorts, but I don't know for sure.

It's ok, since you can release the focus attack to unleash an attack at any time it's probably usually too risky for your opponent to go in for the throw if you're charging focus.

The humor comes from both the absurdity of my misunderstanding as well as the absurdity of the idea of leo being so overly sympathetic to a simple game mechanics issue. See? Now it's really quite hilarious once we outline the comedic devices. Let us now lol.

I see part of my problem in reading that faq. I do in fact almost always have the stick in the down diagonal and this is when they suggest using the octagonal gate.

Kotaku's posted scans of a SFIV Training Manual they recently got. So far there are background stories and move lists for Cammy, Rose, Ken, Seth, and Gen. Blue stars next to a move indicate you can EX the move; red stars mean the move can break through "armor."

So I bit the bullet and ordered 6 buttons, a new ball top, and an octagonal restrictor. I wasn't sure about the gate since the square's been working really well for Chun Li's charge moves, but since I'm hoping to primarily use El Fuerte in SFIV I need to be able to do hadoken motions fast fast fast and accurately. So octagon gate it is. I'll try and take some pictures to post when I do the operation.

Just a heads up for anyone looking for the crazy-uber-awesome Tournament Edition Fightsticks...
Bestbuy.com has both the 360 and PS3 versions up for pre-order.
They are expensive as hell, but sold out everywhere, so if you're looking for one, head over!

I went back and forth on mine as well, but by the time I decided, everyone was sold out . I also ordered mine earlier from BB. I figure even if I don't use it much and want to sell it later, it will probably sell for about as much since its such a limited run.

I wasn't even hyped for this one a week ago.
But remembering my love for Sakura...I am psyched again.
Anyone else going PS3 version? Or is everyone going to buy sticks for 360?

I'll be getting the PS3 version on release date. In a move very much unlike myself, I plan to play this game a lot online.

Oh shit! If that's the kind of fighting skills I'll come up against online, I'm scared already. Just speculating here but I think if you dive into learning the new game mechanics ASAP you'll have a huge advantage over the majority of the players in the first few months, since I think most of them are initially going to be playing it just like Street Fighter II. They had a live feed a few weeks ago of a bunch of staff at 1up playing the game, and I don't think any of the newer players used a single focus attack (the new twist on a parry system).

It's also kind of weird that the 360 version doesn't get the movie on a DVD; instead it's on a 360 game disc. The PS3 Collector's Edition gets a full fledged blu-ray disc. I guess the reasoning is to get a 720p version of the movie that 360 owners can play, but I'd think it'd be preferable for a collector to have it in DVD format instead of a bizarro game-movie disc. Though I was somewhat tempted by the Collector's Edition, I'll just be renting the blu-ray version of the movie instead and putting the $20 towards the full version of the strategy guide, which looks like it's going to be a good one.

You can also modify them to have most of the same components as the TE ones, though it will never have the heft and stability of it. It's easier to modify the TE one though. If you aren't a hardcore player (or just made of money) I would suggest getting the regular Fight Stick that is coming out with the game. It's middle of the road in quality compared with the others and reasonably affordable compared to the TE. You can modify it for much less than the cost of the TE to be pretty close. I'm still confused why they added a Turbo feature to the sticks. I've always considered using an automatic turbo on a button to be cheating, yet they built it into their official sticks. Kinda strange.
