"with slightly better graphics"

Are you serious, the graphics are only "slightly" better?  eek

But, if the gameplay isn't some how changed for the better, then you are partially right, it will be the same game but with MUCH better graphics.

Ok slightly maybe a bit harsh, but it cant stand up to what he have seen so far on the next Gen. systems. If this had came out Dec.2005 maybe.  I looked at that video again and I am in no way impressed. I will barrow it from a friend for the achievements unless the could show me a series of differences that can get me excited which i doubt...

juniordian's video is one the duller gameplay video I've seen for the game.  Try this Guile vs. Zangief video.

I absolutely love the visual style.  We've come so far in the 3d-->2d since the early days of simple cel shading.

I mean, it's almost unbelievable that these screenshots are 3d rendered and not hand drawn:

It seems like the visuals are a love it or hate it kind of thing, but I'm very excited by what they've shown so far--especially when it's in motion.  I also really like that it's gone back to the SFII basics with the gameplay and isn't all about 500 hit combos and aerial battles.

Indeed, as cool as this looks, I'd love a really nice looking Mortal Combat 2d game.

Very true about the visuals, as I still don't know what to make of it. It's not because I'm not a fan, no - I grew up with the SF series, and how it was not the combo madness that it more or less is now (but nowhere near as bad as some other fighting games).

Yup, I can't say I like the character design for Chun Li in this new SF game at all. Quite frankly she looks even uglier than the Chun Li in the SF Alpha movie, which was pretty damn ugly.
Come on Capcom why can't we have a beautiful and sexy Chun Li like in SF II The Animated Movie? And if we could get her to fight again while only wearing her panties and T-shirt, well that much better!  slywink thumbsup

Never seen a female Black Belt's legs, have ya?  Now the arms and hangs literally as big as her entire head?  Yea, that looks way the hell out of place...

the legs weren't what stood out to me, plus I seem to remember her being less muscular in SF2- she was my girl until Vega became playable.

I'm extremely excited about the game and can already say I'll be buying it on release day, this is the first fighter I will have bought since Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast. My friends and I were huge SF2 fans.

Turns out Vega is Chun-Li's lesbian twin sister.  *Gasp!*

As good as this looks to be, I'm tired of old fighter type gameplay with obscure button combos and dpad/stick twists and the focus on twitch reaction.  Not to say that's a bad thing.

But I'd love for the day that they take something like Fight Night's combat system, more deliberate tactical fighting and gave that kind of treatment to the martial arts fighting genre.

Of course, I'd also like to see a bushido blade again.

NM, there's still a chance he might be in there.  I misread this quote from one of the Gamespot articles:

Quote
All the characters announced up until now were fully playable at AOU, which includes the eight world warriors from the original Street Fighter II and the new female challenger, Crimson Viper. A tenth character, named Abel, was also unveiled and playable.

Vega wasn't one of the original 8 playable characters, but another article says there may still be surprises in the game.

Arise!  (because I want to talk about the collector's edition announcement)

But first!

Quote from: leo8877 on February 20, 2008, 04:16:10 PM

Yeah I gotta think that in this modern day, there will be like 25 fighters and 25 unlockables too.

So far we have the 12 original SFII characters
Ryu
Ken
Chun-Li
E. Honda
Blanka
Zangief
Guile
Dhalsim
Balrog (Boxer)
Vega (Claw)
Sagat
M. Bison (Dictator)

Plus four all-new characters that are in the arcade version:
Abel, a French mixed martial artist. He is described as an amnesiac, a "man with no past" looking to defeat surviving members of Shadaloo.
Crimson Viper, a female American spy wearing sunglasses, leather gloves and a form-fitting suit.
Rufus, a fighter bearing Kung Fu moves and a rotund appearance, who seeks to fight Ken to prove himself as the best fighter in the United States.
El Fuerte (Spanish for "The Strong One"), a Mexican luchador and wannabe gourmet cook.

The home version also gets these bonus characters (which may or may not be the complete list)
Dan
Fei-Long
Sakura
Cammy
Gen    (SF Alpha)
Rose (SF Alpha 2)
Akuma (is playable but hidden in arcade SFIV)
Seth (new boss)
Gouken (new boss, and Ryu and Ken's sensei)

Whew!  Twenty-five on the dot; looks like leo's a precog!

But how about that collector's edition?

Quote from: Gamestop
The Collector's Edition for Xbox 360 or PS3 will include
  • a bonus disc with a 65-minute full-length Anime movie and promotional trailers;
  • a CD soundtrack;
  • a collectible Ryu figurine for the PS3 edition;
  • a collectible C. Viper figurine for the Xbox 360 edition;
  • a Udon/Prima Hint book;
  • and 5 downloadable costumes.

It's $20 extra.

I hate giving in to collector's editions but this one's a bit tempting.  I wish the 360 was getting Ryu instead of Crimson Viper, so that kills the deal a bit.  I'm also hesitant to call the hint book a selling point until we hear if it's more than just a 10 page pamphlet.  Even with those two items out of the equation, the movie and soundtrack for $20 ain't too bad a deal.  I don't think they've said what the 5 DLC costumes are, but if they happen to be for my favorite characters then I might just get suckered into paying extra to make myself as Pete Rock fabulous as I can online. Fabulous

Yeah, I'm not happy with that either. I could get it for the 360, and get the so-so special character, or get it for the PS3 and be unable to play with any of my friends (as they've all gotten the 360 version).

IGN Hands On

Eurogamer Hands On

The IGN article is pretty useless, but the Eurogamer one does a decent overview of the game.  It's more of a primer on the game than a hands-on.

I do think I'm gonna have to pick this game up. I was a huge fan of the series back in the SNES days, and I loved how well Alpha 3 played. Here's to hoping that the Madcatz pads don't suck ass (because the 360 controllers do).

And I want fucking Ryu. I want to give Capcom extra money, but they're putting the cool figure on the wrong system.

In short, yes.  The official reasoning is a simpler 'not working over break proves you don't give 110%' as put by my boss. (ignore the fact that I had a huge fever and was barely able to move for over half of break. frown
