I played a bunch of Cammys last night. Just about each one destroyed me. She's good with skilled players!

Is an Xbox Live Gold-membership needed to play against other people? If so, I think I'll wait for the pc version...
It's required to play other people online on the 360, yes. I hate having to pay for Live, too, but $3/month isn't that painful.

WTF is this wake-up thing and how do I pop up from the ground quickly? the first step... is to read the manual It explains how to get up quickly, though not how to do a wake-up. wake-up moves are moves that begin immediately when standing up and can be used to counter people who try to hit you as you stand. Getting up quickly is in the manual and you either hit down right when you hit the ground, or hit two buttons together as you hit the ground.

Welcome back, Kato. I've been having too easy a time beating Balrog's I've met in ranked matches so I guess I'm due to be humbled by the Kato Assault.

Most of the Balrog's I've faced just seem to spam the b-f-FP/SP/LP move and then low or throw over and over. It's like playing a shoto fireball spammer.
Anyone have trouble with the throw cancels? Even when I know they're going to throw it seems to either not register anything or register LP. I don't think I've cancelled a single throw yet.

Funniest match I've had thus far: dude was Sagat, I was Bison. Down to the last round, both had about one third health left. He went back into his corner and started spamming tiger fireballs. So I would time it to headstomp him right as he would do that, getting in a nice hit and automatically coming back to my side of the screen. We did this for about 30 seconds. Him just waiting back there, then fireball, then I would headstomp. It was awesome

Ok I need some help from the guy's using sticks for this game I can't get my ultra's or supers to come out consistently. Is there a secret to getting that second motion and timing on the button presses right?

First off, your super or ultra meter is charged when you're trying to do the move, right? (This was the problem for someone else earlier.) If so, you're probably either botching the joystick motion or hitting the attack buttons too early. Head into training mode, set your meters to stay fully charged, and turn on input display. Try to do a super or ultra and compare your intended inputs with what actually shows up on screen.

I topped out at 998 battle points and have settled in around the 700-800 range. I notice wonderpug is over 2000. Maybe I can win a couple of upsets against him and finally break past that 1000 point barrier.

I think I ended up with just over 900 last night so hopefully I can string together a few wins and finally get over that mark.

He said he gained 300 points for that one match (and of course the opponent lost 300). They had a ranked rematch shortly after and Kato lost. I'm sure the 3000 2700 point guy felt much better after regaining a whopping 2 BPs for the win.

You know, I started typing with the intention of saying it might just take one win to boost you from 700-800 to your over 1000 goal, but somehow I ended up rambling about Kato's story. I hate being sick.

Ugh, really frustrating time with ranked matches tonight. I kept getting either people who disconnect right as I'm about to beat them, or people who wait until I pick Cammy and then counterpick Zangief and then turtle the whole match. There were occasional really good matches in between, but the bad matches outnumbered the good.
Hey Capcom, blind character select and punishment for dropping connections, please.

I haven't had anyone D/C yet, that sounds very frustrating. I agree to the blind character select too.

I've disconnected from a fight before, but never seen anyone do it to me. The one time I did it myself was when I met my 6th or 7th Ken in a row, so I just quit the game while the first round was still loading. Serves the fucker right.

So you are part of the problem. Neat. What problem? People were complaining about other people quitting just when they were about to lose. I didn't do that. In fact, with all the Kens I've been fighting, I had a good chance of winning. I just couldn't stand fighting another freaking unimaginative Ken player.

What IS this? I've disconnected ONCE, BEFORE a battle, against a Ken player when I had fought half a dozen of them in a row. This isn't a problem. I cost him at most 30 seconds of his time, and he didn't lose a victory. He was probably fighting someone else 30 seconds later. I'd say I probably did the Street Fighter community a favor by doing what I did, as I practically sent him a message telling him that I was tired of fighting against Kens. If more people did this, perhaps people would start using other fighters.
I don't give a flying fuck if I hurt anyone's feelings with that. And for the record, the last time I could say I was in a grade is long past.

I finally broke 1000 battle points last night. After basking in the increased glow produced by that newly visible 4th digit, I stopped playing. I didn't dare risk a return ticket to 3-digit noobville. I have a feeling I'm not long for this 4-figure world so I'm going to at least enjoy it for a day or so before playing again.

Do you really need this spelled out for you? That person has no idea you just played 6 or 7 other Kens before you were matched up with him. He might being going online for the first time and not even know that there's a million other Ken players out there. He might be someone who's actually really good with Ken and not just another flowchart shoryuken player. You don't know any of that. What you do know is that you've dinged his win ratio (since it'll count as a game played but not a game won) all because you've decided out of all the Kens you've faced, this random person should be the one to learn...what? The only message you're delivering is that you either have a bad internet connection or that you're a jerk who disconnects from online matches. So yeah, it's frustrating playing so many Kens, but a lot of people are playing this game for the first time--hell, a lot of people are playing a fighting game for the first time since 1994--and so of course there are a lot of beginners out there falling back to the most familiar and easy to use character. Most of these Ken players aren't even good at the game, so instead of griefing them why don't you just beat them* and get your battle points up to where the Ken population thins out? *I'll even give you step by step instructions: 10 Crouch block 20 Wait for inevitable Shoryuken to come out for no reason 30 Throw Ken 40 GOTO 10 I finally broke 1000 battle points last night. After basking in the increased glow produced by that newly visible 4th digit, I stopped playing. I didn't dare risk a return ticket to 3-digit noobville. I have a feeling I'm not long for this 4-figure world so I'm going to at least enjoy it for a day or so before playing again. You've got more battle point self control than I do. When I reach a new high it means I've just won, so I can't help but feel I'm on a roll and try for another win. Then of course I lose, and then I want to at least get back to the high I was at, so of course I lose another couple times. Oh, and wish me luck for tomorrow! I'm entered in a for-fun 64 player tournament in the Penny Arcade forums. Single elim, best of three matches, 5 round matches. There's a lot of absolute beginners in the tourney just playing for fun, but also a handful of highly skilled players like this one guy who's almost completed every character's hard challenges. No seeding, so my first matchup could just as easily be a cakewalk or a nightmare.

Actually, I didn't know that. Not that win ratio matters much if anything in this game, since it's all about the battle points. He wasn't a beginner, btw. He had both an icon and a title that showed that he had played a lot of battles.

I only had that much self-control because a) I've been trying to get to 1000 BPs sicne the game came out and finally after maybe 100-200 matches finally eeked over the barrier lat night and b) American Idol was coming on and the wife wanted the TV. Good luck in the tourney tomorrow. That sounds like a ton of fun and something I'd love to participate in-- myabe we can organize a GT tourney of 8 or 16 people. I'd definitely be up for that, just as long as I don't draw you or Harkonis in round 1.

I'd definitely be up for that, just as long as I don't draw you or Harkonis in round 1. Glad to see you're up for a tourney. I've been thinking about organizing one for the forum but wasn't sure if there'd be enough interest. You think it would be better to keep it GT or mix it up with another forum? The OO SFIV population seems nonexistent but there's a fair number of people at Gamers with Jobs with the 360 version of SFIV and their skill range seems fairly comparable to most of the folks here.

And btw, I think I have the best title in the whole game-- "Love Missionary". It's true, I do. I didn't know horses could do it missionary.

Sure, a GT tourney would be a blast. I'm up for it, and I bet Harkonis would be too.
