I just added a second hard drive where I want to install my games. Steam is already installed on my primary HD, how do I install games to the secondary HD?

You have to move everything.

Ah, thanks for that. I reinstalled Steam on the new HD and am downloading all the games again. Ugh.

nono

Backup the games, then install Steam to the new location, then run the restore executable in the steam backup folder.

Oh snap... I already deleted everything. It's OK, I only had 4-5 games and I have most of them back already.

I do have another question though. Is there a way to convert or register a physical game to digital format on Steam? For example, Mass Effect, which they sell in their store.

Good Lord, what's with the big-name games being riddled with account spam. Games for Windows Live is funky, it says I can't sign into Red Faction unless I apply an update but when I try to update it says I'm not connected to the internet. So far my Steam experience is less than exceptional  retard

*boggle*

Smooth sailing here.

And yes. Go to 'games', and 'add a non-steam game to my games list'.

What does Games for Windows Live have to do with Steam?

there's apparently a problem with RFG on steam. goto the game's forums on steampowered.com and you'll find a fix.

Just for the record, the link I posted showed you have to move your games, the only reinstall should have been the steam client itself. You must have missed the "Delete all of the files and folders except the SteamApps folder and Steam.exe" part. SteamApps = your games. icon_wink

And GFWL is just funky, Steam or no Steam.

While you can add non-steam games to your Steam list so you can access the Steam community stuff in-game and such, there are only a handful of games that allow you to buy a non-steam copy and then convert that to a full digital Steam copy and essentially toss the discs.  The full list is here.  Unfortunately, you can't do it with every game that's offered on Steam.

Neat! I looked at that list and discovered that I could associate my copy of Unreal Tournament 3 with Steam. That's going to increase the odds that I'll play the game again. smile

Any idea where screenshots go? I'm playing HL: Source and assigned a button the take screenshots, I have no idea where they're saving to.

In general:

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<account>\<game>\<mod/game folder>\screenshots

HL1 based games are stored in C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<account>\<game>\<mod/game folder>
