By the GODS OF MOUNT OLYMPUS, I have a mountain of games, and limited gaming time.
Steam sales and impulse purchasing over the past two years has gotten me behind the eightball, as it were.

I have a list of 246 odd games. The ones that I consider "in a backlog" aren't the little indie titles, or the many popcap games that I got in a bundle for a select few that my son and GF like playing.

Ready?

Spoiler for the scrolin.:

Remember, I didn't have time to fill in, or recall, the circumstance for every purchase off the top of my head. I've bought perhaps 4 games at full price - otherwise Steam has been my bargain bin for gaming.

So I'm going to finish Batman:AA. What's next though? Do I start Bioshock YET AGAIN, or do I delve back into Borderlands to complete my 2nd run through with Claptraps revolution? Mass Effect didn't work last time, do I go back to that, or do I let the Dragons of Skyrim run my gaming agenda? Dragon Ages are also outstanding, as is Crysis, Far Cry, Tomb Raider and Force Unleashed.

I also have Battlefield 3 waiting for me on Origin, and a BUNCH of 360 games I picked up cheap with a local rental store closing. I think my 360 / Wii / PS3 backlog is at about a dozen games.

I look forward to Diablo ]|[ being pushed back until August. biggrin

I've also been heavily involved in other projects which have yet to produce any monetary value to me (actually, much to my detriment).

So as I collected these games, I figured I might have time to play them, then had not been able to play them, and I now have an Indy-sized boulder rolling at me.

Any recommendations as to which 3 games YOU'D start with?

I'm never going to treat my backlog like that. I'll play the games if and when I want to, not because I feel like I have to. The games will always be there, and if I end up not playing them, then that means I made a bad purchase. Forcing myself through them won't change that.

Of course, if these games are ones you truly want to play, it's kind of different. Tongue

I agree with TiLT.  I would start with the one that most appeals to me, play it until I finish it or feel like I am personally done with it, and then move on to the next most exciting one and not feel any regret.

Look... Here's a way to cut thru that ridiculous backlog: Ask yourself.. if you were to die at the end of this year, what games will your regret not have played? (Now, you should be regretting doing many other things if you're about to die).. But, ask yourself that.. and see what games 'rise' to the front.

I vote for either Dead Space or Tomb Raider Legend, mostly because they are good games that don't require a huge time commitment, plus once you are done, if you like them, you've got sequels that are also reasonable to take on.

I would definitely play Tomb Raider with a controller if you can.

That's some backlog! I would start with Amnesia because it is short and scary fun. Then move on to New Vegas because it is so great. Maybe Far Cry as the third choice.

The number of big games in that list that have like 1.5-2 hours played is just sad. Tongue I did notice over 50 hours in Mass Effect though!

sometimes their timer is off.  I know I put more than .7 hours into Left 4 Dead and a helluva lot more time into Mass Effect 2.  same deal with Alpha Protocol, played through as far as the end of the Russian missions and it says I've only played .4 hours.

it doesn't match up with a lot of games on my list either.

my list

note this is only the main list, not including GoG, Green man gaming, D2D and Impulse.  oh and the complete sam & max collection from telltale and the strongbad series as well.

my backlog long passed into heirloom stage and now there is so much gaming debt that even my grandkids will feel guilty when the steam sales roll around.

Trying to get back into Dragon Age: Origins (Batman AA is done as far as I'm going to go - no interest in the challenges and extra stuff at this point).

DA:O is hard to play knowing I have Skyrim sitting right there.
I also am considering finishing up Starcraft 3:WoL - I just don't know how long it is, and how long it would take me. Perhaps I should consider "Easy" instead of "Normal" or "Hard" so I can digest the games without having too much difficulty. (I'm not much of an RTS'er)

Knocked two major time sinks off of my list with Skyrim and Saints Row the Third, now I'm taking aim at Dragons Age 2 before Amalur comes out, which will be followed by a Mass Effect 2 replay before ME3.

take on some of the 'sandbox' titles. example: Train Simulator 2012 - futz around with that for a while, then do something else. come back to it when you feel like. nothing to 'complete' there.
