Am I crazy or did you used to be Stardrifter?

Either way spill on the latest developments in your game...

ATB-

Funny you should ask as I just finished purchasing my tickets for Episode III opening night!

KOTOR2 progress coming along just find.  I'm about 65 hrs into the game and I'm on Nar Shadaa.  I went there after Dantooine.  My journey path so far:  Peragus-Citidel Station-Telos-Dantooine-Nar Shadaa.

Being somewhat vague here to avoid spoilers for others.

I just "found" the Jedi on Nar Shadaa and I'm pretty much near the end of my adventures on this planet.  I already solved most of the side quests, but a few remain.  I just met Mira as well and I'm currently adventuring with Visus and Atton.  I left Kreia on the Ebon Hawk.  She annoys me.  But at least she chimes in with advice from time to time via the Force link.  I think I'm falling in love with Visus, much like I did with Bastilla in KOTOR 1.  Her soft voice and those mysterious hidden eyes.     I just love a game where I can get attached to the characters.  I will protect Visus at all costs!  I also encountered some very "interesting" developments with the characters on the Ebon Hawk.  One was a big surprise, which came out of left field.

A few nights ago I was playing and Bao Dur said something in a cutscene that made me laugh out loud.  (No spoiler here).  The rest of my Ebon Hawk crew were standing outside the ship and a group of bounty hunters come to attack.  I think it was Atton who said to Bao "So, who do you choose (to attack)?"  And Bao responds "The stupid one who decided to threaten us rather than shoot us when he had the chance."  Good stuff.

I'm a Level 15 Jedi Consular and a Level 2 Jedi Master.  I know it's taking me a long time to finish but I'm enjoying every single moment of this fantastic game.  I have a green lightsaber dealing out about 30 points of damage with other benefits.  I'm also a pure goody-goody light side Jedi Knight.  I consider him in the same vain as a Qui Gon Jin.

One of the reasons I decided not to start playing Jade Empire (I just bought it a couple of weeks ago) is that I want to fully enjoy and finish this game first.

Yes, I was Stardrifter.  In some strange brain twisted event I can't explain when I joined Xbox Live I put Starshifter as my Gamertag.  So, I asked Knightshade here to change it for me - for consistency and to avoid confusion.

Oh, and I always took Kreia as she gave me tons of plot development information as we progressed. Perhaps she still does via the force link, but I didn't want to risk it. I took her everywhere...

She does Force link with you so it doesn't matter if she is with you or not.  On many occassions she suddenly Force-linked in to me to give me advice and/or important plot messages.

In KOTOR 1 I went to Korriban first.  In this game, I want to save that one for last.  So my next destination after Nar Shadaa will be that planet that begins with an "O".  I can't remember its name.

By the way, Dantooine was great.  It was so strange going back to that planet after the Jedi are gone.  As I walked around the Jedi Enclave I imagined my current character, Cayn Centaura (Jedi Consular) having ghostly Force-like memories of his brother Rylan Centaura (Jedi Sentinel - and my character I played in KOTOR 1), beginning his Jedi training there.

By the way, I'm already preparing for KOTOR 3 where I will play my first female Jedi - Lynrya Centaura (a Jedi Guardian type) and the sister of Rylan & Cayn!  But, Rylan & Cayn don't know she exists!  Cool.  Yes, I do need a life.

Question for you:  What level Jedi did you end up at and what was your total game time?

I'm obviously not ATB but I'm pretty impressed with your gametime.  I don't recall what level I was at when I beat it but my total gametime was 50 hours and I'm one of those "do every subquest possible" type of guys.

I just finished making a list of all the items creatable with the Workbench.  I was kicking myself, I thought GameFAQs didnt have one, and one was there after checking tonight.  But, after looking at it, I noticed two things: One, their FAQ is missing a lot of items, and two, the author states his list is 'complete'.

So oh well, since I already went through all the trouble, Im going to submit it to GameFAQs.  But, I need to put it in a text file (its in an excel spreadsheet right now), and Im too tired to worry about it right now.

So, anyway, if you want a copy of the spreadsheet, let me know.  The joys of Data Processing...

It's nice to know someone else takes as long to complete these games as I do.  My finishing time for KoTOR 1 was close to 90 hours, and I'm at about 23 with KoTOR 2 and just landed on Telos.

I really did try to get away with not doing it- I looked around a great deal after I started playing.  But now Im almost at the end, and it was info I really wanted.  Somebody had to step up, so it may as well be me =)

But yeah, Im pretty hardcore with games.  I actually wrote a few faqs before, but never submitted them for various reasons.

unbreakable-

Let me know when you post your FAQ.  I checked Gamefaqs this morning and didn't see it.  I'd like to check it out.  If you want you can PM me and send me the Excel file.  Either way I would like to see it.  It takes alot of patience to do something like that.

Thanks.

No problem, I was adjusting the text file today before I went to McWork, but only got a small amount done.  I'll probably submit it next week after I finish the text version.

I know a few people have written faqs here before, and I have a simple question about how I should format the charts.  Do tabs come out correctly?  Should I 'space' out the tables instead, or should I just not even bother putting it in table form?

There is a lot of info, and I organized it kind of differently (you can sort by various attributes, like if you want to see which ones add/penalize skills, or add resistances, that sort of thing), so the text format doesnt really do it justice.  Oh well.

Ah well, my FAQ was rejected by GameFAQs because there is already a Workbench item FAQ (although an incomplete version).  So whatever.  Ill post it here.

ATB-

I just finished up Korriban.  OMG!  The shyrack cave and the "encounters" were outstanding!  Cool!  They really caught me off guard.  It took me a bit to figure out what was going on.  I'm being intentionally vague here to avoid spoilers for others.  I'm now back on Onderron and off to help the Queen.  I expect I'm getting close to the end.

What a ride.  Love this game!  Ranks right up there with KOTOR 1.

I'm still waiting for the doom and gloom alot people keep telling me about the finish of the game.  I'm half expecting to be walking by some trees on Dxun and the game suddenly ends.  Even if that happens it is still one heck of a great game.

By the way, Kreia still annoys the hell out of me.  If I was ever able to go to the Dark Side she would be the first one I would slice in half with my lightsaber.

Alas, I am pure light side - green lightsaber and all. biggrin

I dont know what problem people had with how it ended.

I can see issues with the level design, but to be honest I was so powerful at that point that nothing would have been a challenge anyway.  But you can see tons of story threads that were left unfinished; I heard LucasArts was pushing very hard for a Christmas release, so the side stories were never finished properly.

The problem I had with the ending was the gaping plot/story holes that were left.  The level design wasn't all that bad it was just that I play the game for the story, and the story just plain died at the end.

I can see this too but that is what KOTOR 3, 4, 5 etc. can expand on.  I equate KOTOR 2 with The Empire Strikes Back.  It's the middle of a trilogy and the one that will leave you hanging.  No big deal to me.  Let the story paths hang.  I can use my imagination as to what may happen.  Love this game!

unbreakable - By the way, I LOVE your Excel FAQ!  I apologize for not getting you feedback earlier.  I have so much stuff in my inventory that your FAQ was invaluable in helping me weed out the stuff I really didn't need.  Excellent job!

But its *not* like ESB- we're not talking cliffhangers here.  The story resolves but there are giant gaps in it.  And its not likely stuff that will ever be taken up in any sequels either.  This wasn't like Halo 2, for example, where content was clearly left for the sequel.  Instead content was gutted just to make the ship date on time and is never likely to appear again.

Yeah, to analogize it to ESB would be like if ESB ended with Luke going to Cloud City, fighting Vader and getting rescued without any dialogue, and without Han getting captured.

I love KOTOR 2, I thought it was much better than KOTOR 1 overall, but it's really a shame how much got cut (which was presumably LucusArts fault); you can read some of the lost content online.  The ending's not terrible, but if it had what was cut the game could really have been legendary.

I should add that I still relish the fiendishly evil (dark side) adventures of the Exile, the legendary Darth Darth.

I wasn't directly comparing it to Empire.  I was trying to make the point that, typically, the middle "movie," "book," or "videogame" of a trilogy, will leave you hanging or raise more questions than answers.  Lots of questions that were setup in A New Hope and resolved in Return of the Jedi were originally raised in Empire (for me at least).  It's just simply how I view KOTOR 2.  That plus the fact that alot of little things in games, that bother other people, do not bother me.  This is true for me in gaming and outside of gaming. smile

A better analogy to Empire- it would be like Han and Leia arrive on Cloud City and then the movie cuts to Luke and Leia at the viewport of the Nebulon B frigate at the end and you're left wondering-

"When did Luke leave Dagobah, where is Han, and WTF happened to Luke's hand??!?"

And then ROTJ is never released.

Not trying to turn you off of the game Starshifter- I loved it too.  But the ending is not the result of cliffhangers meant to be resolved in future titles.  It was gutted, plain and simple.

Don't worry Kevin I'm not taking it that way.  Like I said before, if the game ended right now, right where I'm standing, without solving anything, I would still rank it right up there with KOTOR 1.  It's just me.

I will post my thoughts on the ending when I get to it.  I think I'm close.  I think.  I will hate to see it end.  Hope they announce a KOTOR 3.

ATB- (I can't believe this!)

OMG! :shock::shock::shock:

I went back to the rebuilt Jedi Temple on Dantooine and could not believe my eyes or ears as to what those three Jedi were accusing me of!  I can't believe they were telling me that I was a "wound" in the Force that had to be stopped!  WTF?  After all the good I did?  I responded by telling them not to take the Force from me and to stop this immediately.  Then shock number two!  Kreia comes to my aid and kills the Jedi!  HOLY SHIT!  Kreia is a Sith Lord!  I knew it!  I knew I was right not to trust that bitch!  The scene where each Jedi was accusing me and the camera kept shifting from one Jedi to the other and to Kreia and back was outstanding!  The emotion was so intense!  I had goosebumps!

Then, the shocks continue.  Kreia goes to Telos and friggen Atris is tainted by the Dark Side?  And I have to battle her?  HOLY SHIT number two!  That was intense and so freakin cool!  I never saw that coming!  And, the Handmaiden comes to defend me and battles Atris!  HOLY SHIT again!  This is just one shocker after another!  I was mesmerized!  I've never played a game that made my jaw drop so many times in a row!  This game was pummelling me with excitement and shocking the shit out of me!

But here is the best part!  On the Ebon Hawk on the way to Telos, I could not believe it when Visas came up to me and professed her true feelings and love towards me! biggrin   Remember I said I got attached to Visas?  WOW!  She has the same feelings as me!  It's like the game designers knew what I wanted!  I could not believe this.  Her smooth voice was so tempting.  And those lips!  As a matter of fact, I agonized over my response to her for several minutes.  Do I say "come to me now" or do I "focus on the mission".

This must be a Jedi feels - torn between love and the Jedi Code!  I ultimately chose the response that went something like - "Wait for me until I get back and we can be together".  I hope I chose the right response!!!!!  I was torn between running to her right away and admitting my love for her and sticking true to my pure Jedi ways and focusing on the mission at hand.  YES!  The emotions were flowing!!!

WHAT A GAME!!! To make me "feel" and "agonize" over a decision like this means the game got me - and big time baby!!! biggrin

I know it's almost over.  I'm figuring on battling Darth Nihilus very soon and it will be over.  Man, drop me to DOS right now with a game over and I'm the happiest man on earth.  No way this ending will disappoint, unless Visas gets killed.   Please don't let this happen!

Oh yeah I forgot.  Darth Traya?  I'm assuming that is Kreia.  Cool!

I have to tell you the whole series of events from my return to Dantooine right up to Telos and the battle with Atris was so incredible and so mesmerizing I think I held my breath the entire time.  I equate this whole chain of events with the shocker moment in KOTOR 1 when I found out I was Revan.  I saved at this point (right after sparing Atris' life) because it was now 2:20am!

WOW!  I'll repeat - WHAT A FREAKIN GAME!!!!  Like KOTOR 1, I will be remembering this game forever!  I can't wait to finish it tonight!

Whew!  I'm at 96hrs in to the game.  What a ride.

Unfortunately...it really wasn't ATB. It was exciting for about 30 seconds until you realized that all of the stuff that seemed cool and exciting was mostly unncessary M.Night Shymalan plot twists to make the game feel shocking and different and to try to provide that same wonder as the KOTOR "secret"-then, BAM, you get to the most incomplete, incomprehensible, inane ending to a stellar RPG that I can ever remember.

I'm at the point now that if this ending, which I will experience tonight, is NOT the most incomplete, incomprehensible, inane ending EVER, I will be sorely disappointed.  Everybody here has basically made it up to be the biggest ultimate disappointment of our lifetime.  For all the complaining about it, it better royally suck or else we all better take a few steps back and relax a little.

I also don't care if the last sequence of events I just talked about turn out to mean nothing, or go nowhere, or do not conclude, or Kreia ends up being my mother.  I don't care.  You know why?  Because I had fun and I enjoyed it last night.  And nothing can take that experience away.  Besides, Visas loves me!

I loved the game all the way through. The ending was full of holes, however,  and made me realize the crime that was committed against Obsidian. That would have been their masterpiece if only Lucas Arts had given them a couple more months. I hope their next game doesn't run into the same kind of problems and Obsidian get the chance to show their true potential (Torment is still the best game I've played).

I FINISHED IT!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin

Like ATB said in his impressions/thoughts after completing the game, this game has changed me and made me feel, for the lack of a better word, wonderful!

Here are my impressions and boy I don't know what people were talking about concerning the ending.  Keep in mind that I was a pure light side Jedi (light side points maxed).  I was as good as you can get throughout the entire game.  Not a single dark side action or point through the entire game.  I ended at a Level 15 Consular/Level 12 Master.  Most people like to go dark side and maybe the dark side ending is not as complete or fulfilling as the light side.  Just a thought.  I will break it down via the important ending events.

[MAJOR SPOILERS]

Malachor V

Wow.  Never expected this planet.  The lightning & thunder and dismal grayish look really gave it atmosphere.  And I knew an encounter with Sion & Kreia was coming.  That added to the mounting tension.  I can see how someone playing a dark side character would feel like this was a coming home.

Battle vs. Darth Sion

Fantastic!  Tough.  But, pure Star Wars.  I loved how it took me at least four times to wipe out his health to finally defeat him.  I used Master Speed to put some distance between us to heal and use various Force protections and then charged in with lightsaber flurries.  More importantly, I loved how during each break in the battle I tried my best to bring him back to the light side.  This was great.  I loved the conversations between battling - that is Star Wars.  I finally convinced him in the end!  But alas, there was no way he could have gone on in his condition. I actually felt bad for him after he collapsed.  I tried so hard to help him.

Battle vs. Kreia (Darth Trayus)

This was very interesting.  It took me several attempts to finally wear her down - and the floating lightsabers !  Cool!  Imagine my surpise when they appeared!  I figured my best bet was to take Kreia out since it was her who was controlling them.  The best part though was my last conversation with her.  This is the point where I was wondering if other people actually went through this conversation.  I chose the option to have Kreia tell me the future, and in doing so I found out how each and every character that I adventured (and became attached to) with through the whole game ended up!  This left no loose ends for me.  I was disappointed that I wouldn't be with my beloved Visas though!   I also felt very emotional when she told me that Mira would die on some backwater planet while aiding others.  How could you not be emotional?

The Ending Cut Scene

What was wrong with this?  It was beautiful!  The sweeping, melodic, and almost sad music as the Ebon Hawk soared away towards the nebula was epic-like.  I just sat back and exhaled and appreciated the epic story I just completed.  I watched all the credits and enjoyed the music.  My character's destiny is the same as Revan's - to fight the true Sith in the outer rim.  He "rode off into the sunset" to follow in his brothers tracks!  That brother thing is my own story element.  I envisioned my character in this game to be the brother of the character I created in KOTOR 1, so I added some extra flavor to these games.  He will finally meet his brother now.  In KOTOR 3 (I hope they make it) I will introduce the sister!

The Storyline

There were absolutely no loose ends for me.  And I understood and enjoyed it.  Kreia hated the Force.  She wanted to destroy it.  Hated it for controlling her.  She saw in me (my character) a way to destroy the Force because of my complete shutdown in the Force and the "wound" it left in the Force.  She tried to bring me to this end.  But I was strong.  Good will always triumph over evil!!!  It was very fun in the end finding out how Kreia was the common link between all - the fall of Atris, the control of Sion & Nihilus, the gathering of the Jedi for their destruction and her manipulation of me.  Wow.  Very, very cool.  And her talk of the true Sith in the outer rim was very intriguing!  I didn't trust her the very first moment I found her meditating in the room at the Peragus Mining Station!

Conclusion

As good as KOTOR 1.  Many, many lasting impressions of encounters and scenes.  I will be thinking about this for a long time, as I still think about my many encounters in KOTOR 1!!!  Next to the original Wing Commander games on the PC, these two games provided me with the most lasting, memorable moments ever in videogames and also brought out various strong emotions in me.  And most importantly, I will MISS THE CHARACTERS!  If you make me miss the characters, you made a stellar game.  Till this day I still miss Bastila (it was great seeing her and Carth need the end!) and the others from KOTOR 1 and now I will miss Visas, T3-M4, Bao Dur and the others - like family members gone away.

Thankyou Obsidian for carrying on the great tradition of KOTOR started by Bioware and please, I implore you to make KOTOR 3.  For I want to live the adventures of Lynrya Centaura, Jedi Guardian sister of Rylan Centaura (KOTOR 1) and Cayn Centaura (KOTOR 2).

The ending didn't hurt me so much as it seemed to hurt other people.  But Starshifter, you should look up on the internet (it's available in the KOTOR 2 forums at obsidian entertainment, and probably elsewhere) all of the ending stuff that was cut.  That really would've made the game legendary, IMO.  Lots of great stuff, including more allied involvement in Malachor V - heroic sacrifices, manipulation, etc.  In particular, Kreia (ever the master manipulator) takes whatever love-interest you spurn and uses their feelings to turn them to the dark side (or to her side, at least, if you're evil) and against you.

But alas, it was not to be.

What you say does sound really good, especially the love interest thing and heroic sacrifices.  But, in no way does it diminish the wonderful experience I had.  I'll never forget it!  Would it had been even greater with those things?  Yes.  Was it epic as is?  Yes.

ATB - still waiting on your response man!

I am glad you enjoyed it really.

Could you clear up a couple things for me since your story appeared to end differently than mine -

1. What happed to Mira?  She killed/fought the wookie, but then what?

2. What happened to GoTo and the remote?  The remote primed all the bombs but GoTo was stopping the remote....how did that get resolved?

3. Who was making all the HK droids and sending them after me?

Those were things that really didn't seem all completed in my ending.

Missing content info.  IMO, there doesnt really appear to be many dealbreakers.  I think some of it, like the stuff mentioned above, are what needed to be completed.

Quote
2. What happened to GoTo and the remote? The remote primed all the bombs but GoTo was stopping the remote....how did that get resolved?

This was a story section they never resolved.  If you had HK-47, he was supposed to come in and kill G0T0.  I suppose, in terms of what was actually shown in KotOR2's storyline, Malachor was never re-destroyed and G0T0 survived.

Quote
3. Who was making all the HK droids and sending them after me?

G0T0.  I found out quite a bit of stuff by talking to G0T0 and gaining faction with him; considering there are spoilers here, I'll say what I learned

(dont read if you dont want to know....)

.

.

Way back on Citadel Station, there was a mission to escort a high-end computational droid to replace one which had mysteriously disappeared (apparently it wasnt Shodan  Tongue ).  G0T0 was that droid, and there is no human named 'Goto'.

G0T0 was asked to figure out how to save the Republic, but his computations led him to two conclusions- 1. that he couldnt find an answer by working within the restraints (economic and ethical) which he was suppsed to adhere to, and 2. he would have to have a means of directly guiding events, which is why he became a crime lord: he could accomplish things both legal (using his money) and illegal (by killing or intimidation).  It seemed to me, however, that G0T0 was just content with being a crime lord, and would have gladly gotten rid of his compulsion to save the Republic.

Anyway, G0T0 admits to sending the HK droids after you, and while he doesnt say so explicitly, it's obviously implied he was the one having them manufactured.  Which is likely another reason HK-47 killed him, although HK-47's loyalty to the exile and dislike of G0T0 are others.

What unbreakable said.

Actually, I couldn't have answered that since I never took HK-47 with me on any missions and never really talked to him since I rebuilt him.  Ditto for G0T0.  I was not Dark Side and never associated with or used them.  I didn't care for HK-47 or G0T0.  Therefore, any storylines/conversations with them were lost on me.  But, unbreakable did a good job in filling in those gaps.

For me, I assumed (imagination part) that Malachor V was destroyed during an unavoidable battle between the remote & G0T0.  Actually, I imagined both the remote & G0T0 activating the shadow-thing as a result of the battle, both locked in a fierce battle as they accidently "hit" the switch and we (meaning my character & the others) had to get the hell off Malachor really fast.

Mira made it back to the Ebon Hawk with me and we all escaped as Malachor V was destroyed - accidentally by the remote & G0T0.  As Kreia said, Mira will have a full life and ultimately die on an unknown world while trying to help/rescue some people.

The only thing that confuses me about the ending is why did the Ebon Hawk initially crash land on Malachor V?  What caused it?  I'm assuming we were being chased by Hanharr or something.  That was the only thing I could not resolve, even with using my imagination.

Fabulous!

I agree about everything you said except this:

As good as KOTOR 1

I put KOTOR2 ahead of it. smile

The ending didn't really bother me until I got on some forums and read about all the stuff that was missing it.  Still, it's my favorite XBOX game of all time.

I don't know that I'll ever go back and play it again (as I'm not really interested at all in gaming right now), but I will remember it always as one of the greatest entertainment moments (er...hrs...er days) that I ever spent.

Glad you finally finished it.

My final thought is that this game is still a masterpiece no matter what was left out...but I really would like to see a 'director's cut' someday with all of the missing content placed back in.  I would probably play through it again....smile

IMO, one of the biggest plot weaknesses of the game was the incredible number of times you crash landed and were thrown out of the ship (but amazingly survived pretty intact).  Whenever a space ship crashes, I want to see some Star Trek: Generations type shit.

I mean come on, the Force isnt a passenger side airbag.  Where is the twisted metal and burning fuel?

[edit] BTW, I wasnt dark side either, but I tried getting faction with G0T0 just to fill in as much of the story as I can.  The only one I didnt get all the influence info from was HK-47, since the majority of it requires getting dark side points, and likewise I got all his pieces far too late in the game to have a chance of getting much influence with him.

I hear that there's a group on the internet working to restore the lost content, though it's only for the PC version and obviously we don't really know if they'll ever finish...
