Sweet!!!  Sounds like this will be a nice followup to the Jedi Knight series.  No word on a Wii version though.....

So is this the follow-up to MX vs ATV Unleashedslywink

It was kind of disappointing to see that nearly all of the pictures in the article were concept paintings.  Hopefully it turns out really cool, and I kind of hope they don't rush it out for the holidays (currently set as a November date, apparently).

Well, I just noticed the video link in the article doesn't work, so the one they're talking about is here.

(looks like some gameplay and some scripted scenes).

That is a pre-visualization trailer from last year's E3.  Basically a tech demo for what they want it to look like.

yeah i saw that video last year sometime, although it does look good,i was a bit miffed at how they have overpowered the jedi/sith/dark jedi...i mean fine with the stormtroopers, but with the tie fighter?....they should of just done all that in the clone wars, would of saved a lot of time

the announcement of a new star wars title is always welcome (nowadays anyway)...but to be honest,i would rather see battlefront 3 or KOTOR3

Since it wasn't mentioned in the article, I'm guessing the Wii lightsaber game that Lucasarts mentioned previously is a separate game.

Yeah because the PS2, which it was announced for, is so much more powerful than the Wii.

Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are being developed in-house at Lucasarts, while PS2, PSP and DS duties have been outsourced to another, unnamed developer.

methinks the PS2 is going to get the short end of the stick. I think they did the same thing with GRAW and it didn't turn out well...

In the case of Lucasarts I'm not sure being outsourced is a bad thing since almost every good game they have produced in the last four or five years has been outsourced (Republic Commando being the exception).

I'm pretty excited, especially since the focus will finally be on the dark side.  I've grown tired of playing the same old do-gooder Jedi character types.  Who wouldn't want to be the apprentice of Darth Vader, working to overthrow The Emperor for control of the entire galaxy?  Well, everyone except Starshifter of course, who would rather play as a fuzzy bunny rabbit dressed in a Jedi robe force pushing marshmallows around to his friends so that they can enjoy a sugary treat.   icon_wink

have they actually produced a game on their own in the last 5 years? The only other one I can think of would be Lego Star Wars (possibly, but I could be wrong) and that game was pretty fun.  Too bad Raven isn't working on this one though.

I think they might have done the Episode 3 game in house, Republic Commando was in house, Galactic Battlegrounds, and maybe a couple other titles.

That be me!  PeteRock knows me all too well.  It's the fact that this new game is focusing on the Dark Side that has me less excited.  I'll get it because it's Star Wars.  However, it will probably never reach the heights of euphoria like the KOTOR games did.  It will probably be a glorified display of their new engine.  OOOOOOO look here you can bend steel with the Force.  Blah.  Give me KOTOR 3 dammit!

P.S.  Even though you could be totally Dark Side in KOTOR 1 & 2, I do know for a fact that Mr. Rock has never got anywhere near completing KOTOR 1 and never purchased KOTOR 2.  I guess he's too busy racing shiny videogame cars or chainsawing the same melted-looking enemies over and over again in the multicolored brown/tan/brown/tan/dark brown/light brown/tan/brown world of Gears of War.  icon_razz

did you ever see the animated Clone Wars series?  The Mace Windu episode showed what a Jedi could do when unleashed  nod

I thought Galactic Battlegrounds was Ensemble Studios (the Age of Empires guys).

'Tis true.   icon_redface  I think the main problem was the "combat."  I've never been a fan of turn-based combat, even though the interface was implemented in "real-time," and so I inevitably got bored with the action element of the game.  Regardless of how well I controlled my character, my fate was determined by a virtual roll of the dice.  If I wanted to play craps I'd head to a casino.  The battles just never felt real.  At least in games such as The Godfather or Oblivion you notice character improvements because they effect your performance and control in the game.  This is why even though KOTOR's story was top-notch, I preferred games like Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, because even though the graphics and controls weren't quite up to par with KOTOR, they were just so much more fun for me to play.  I actually felt like I was controlling my character.  In KOTOR your characters would get stronger, but this only improved your "odds" with the virtual dice.  The story was well-done, and the exploration and character interaction was very interesting, but I guess I just got bored.  No matter how good the story was, I just got bored with actually playing the game.

Which is why I am so excited for Force Unleashed because it follows in the footsteps of Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, without the goody-two-shoes rah-rah save the universe crap.  I want to rule the universe, not save it.  I get to play as a Sith, not just watch things develop on-screen.  If I wanted that, I'd watch Star Wars.

Friends of mine left Need for Speed: Most Wanted at my house so that I could continue where I left off (about halfway through the game), and for some reason Gears of War will never get old.  Perhaps because there are no marshmallow-wielding bunny rabbits or feel-good sing-a-longs to detract from my sadistic blood lust.  I probably wouldn't mind a bunny rabbit in the game, so long as I could chainsaw it in half.  Perhaps Viva Pinata would be more fun for me if the "pin" in "pinata" stood for "pin from a grenade."

And right now I'm actually starting to make my way up the ladder in the Corleone family, extorting businesses, taking over rackets, and striking fear into the hearts of my enemies.  Nothing says kumbuya like throwing a shop owner through the front window of his own store.   icon_cool  Enjoy your quest for a Chewnicorn.

And you think its going to run anything like what they have conceptualized on the PS2? Of course it won't, it will be a lot like psi-ops with lightsabers if they can do it-sure the Wii can do that. It cannot do the next gen physics and environmental deconstruction that the PS3 and 360 can do. Its just a fact-not everything that doesn't praise the Wii is criticism, sometimes its just a statement on the limitations of the hardware.

Wii can run the Havok engine which half the games these days use, so I don't see why not.

My first post was more of a don't judge what you don't know kind of statement. We don't know if the Wii couldn't push it or not. Graphically we do know, but I've seen some interesting physics already being used on the Wii.

If it comes out on the Wii I would enjoy using a borrowed console to try out the lightsaber mechanics on the wiimote-please don't get me wrong. My issues with the Wii stem solely from hardware and exclusive games, not any particular dislike of its alternate control schemes. If they can make it work the same with downgraded graphics that will be a technical accomplishment and a wise one-a Wii Star Wars game seems a natural fit.

im just thinking more of the gameplay, although its called force unleashed...if its just force push this, force push that....its just gonna get very old, very boring very quickly,no matter how great it looks...if they do clever ways,it maybe okay...but fighting a bunch of stormtroopers and doing that force thing is okay 1st time...but after the upteenth time....

lucasrats should just stop taking the piss, and release(or at least announce) KOTOR3...everyone wants it

hmm,i noticed the typo, but what they hey,im gonna keep it like that

Well, we already saw lightning in play.  I truly doubt it'll all be about force pushing.  Did you play Psi Ops?  It seems like this game is heading down that path, which would be fantastic, as far as I'm concerned.

im just thinking more of the gameplay, although its called force unleashed...if its just force push this, force push that....its just gonna get very old, very boring very quickly,no matter how great it looks...if they do clever ways,it maybe okay...but fighting a bunch of stormtroopers and doing that force thing is okay 1st time...but after the upteenth time....

lucasrats should just stop taking the piss, and release(or at least announce) KOTOR3...everyone wants it

hmm,i noticed the typo, but what they hey,im gonna keep it like that

Well, we already saw lightning in play.  I truly doubt it'll all be about force pushing.  Did you play Psi Ops?  It seems like this game is heading down that path, which would be fantastic, as far as I'm concerned.

that would be great actually...i did enjoy that game...and another came out at the same time..second sight i think...sign me up,colour me impressed..whatever if its like Psi-ops

did you ever see the animated Clone Wars series?  The Mace Windu episode showed what a Jedi could do when unleashed  nod

This is the first thing I thought of when that famous tech demo first hit the internets last year. "Holy crap! I get to waste people with the Force just like a Jedi should be able to!" I've said many times that a lightsaber game on the Wii will sell millions of copies without trying and if this game kicks ass on the Wii then Lucasarts will sell every copy they make.

Of course, KOTOR 3 would be a nice game to have in the interim, provided that KOTOR 2 is ever finished.

I think this game just catapaulted itself into "must buy" territory. Wow. Impressive. Most impressive.

methinks the PS2 is going to get the short end of the stick. I think they did the same thing with GRAW and it didn't turn out well...

You mean like the No_Doors_for_You "feature" ? slywink Or was that Rainbow 6?
