I didn't have a good system when I first played Stalker, so no dynamic lighting, which meant nights were too bright and not very scary.

Now with those lighting effects the game should be interesting.  Especially with dynamic anomalies.

Me thinks it would've been more meaningful if they displayed the DX9 version side-by-side. Most of the DX10 supporting games I've seen (I've only played one, Bioshock, in DX10, on my new PC so far), it's barely perceptible "visual enhancements" at a performance knock that isn't worth the bother.

I loved the first one without all of the DX10 enhancements, so all this new stuff will just be icing on the cake  thumbsup

Someday either MS will release a WinXP version of DirectX 10 or they'll release a new version of Windows I actually want to migrate to (like XP was). Until then, I'll have to live without the DX10 pretty. Tongue

As for the video it seems like Russian and Euro devs are the ones pushing graphics tech forward with games like this and Crysis.

It's gold!

Quote
Hermosa Beach, Calif. -- Aug 18, 2008 -- GSC Game World, computer games developer, its publishing subdivision GSC World Publishing and Deep Silver, the games label of Koch Media, a leading producer and distributor of digital entertainment products, today announce that S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky has gone gold. The international release date of the game has been set to September 5th of 2008.

More information about the game is available on the official S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky channel on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/stalkerofficial

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky is a survival FPS game for PC based on a 'what-if' scenario of the second Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident. The game is created as a warning to mankind against mindless play with technologies. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky is the official prequel to the renowned S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game by the Ukraine-based GSC Game World studio. The game is set in 2011and brings forth the events to have preceded the third campaign of Strelok to the Zone center. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky introduces an alternative look onto the events of the original game and offers the player to try himself out as a mercenary s.t.a.l.k.e.r. in search of his own path in the world of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Official game site: www.stalker-game.com

but the release date is pushed back!  looks like it'll definitely knock Infinite Undiscovery off the day one purchase list.

well fuck.  how can you forget to put CD Keys into the box?  mad  If it doesn't delay the Steam release I may go that route now, but I'm wary about the Steam version as I've heard they have had troubles working with GSC on patches.

You know, I just realized there's a ton of good games I want coming out in the next few months.

STALKER and Fallout 3 are going to fill all my needs for post apocalyptic gaming for a long while.

IGN UK review is out.. 7.0. Im starting to wonder if any IGN would know a good game if it jumped up and bit them. 7.0?? Stalker itself was a solid 9.0 ..the ending notwithstanding. smile

After the first video I figured that they'd be going towards a more action oriented game, but it sounds like they've gone a bit over the top.  of course, that could explain why there's less people in the Zone one year later  icon_wink

I'm still going to grab it day one but my expectations have been lowered after the last 2 reviews.

Eurogamer review seems a bit too shallow (and I can't access IGN from work). The guy is obviously disappointed with the game's difficulty and it doesn't sound like he progressed a lot into it.

He doesn't cover any of the must-have basics in his review - AI, performance, quests, weapons' feel, length, etc. It's just a 2-page whining about how hard the game is.

The original had 2 very obvious flaws - abundance of artifacts and cash. They seem to be fixed here, but apparently this guy thinks it's too scarce now.

Obviously I haven't played the game yet and thus have no opinion of it. But the quality of Eurogamer's review is extremely low IMO.

Hopefully in the full fledged STALKER sequel we'll see a cool artifact based crafting system.

I know, for example, in the fluff that one of the early common artifacts that gave a slight health boost was also used in health kits as a ground up powder.  Applied to a wound in that form would cause the wound to heal very quickly.

Imagine taking that to the next level where you have lots of artifact types, but more rare, with the player making trade offs on which to keep around to wear directly, and which to use to create useful items, upgrade weapons, and enhance armor.

I saw it at my local Frys, so either those are the faulty shipments or a new batch.

So the US version has Tages right?  If I recall, it's made by the starforce people, but is much less intrusive for the US market.

one, i wonder what you can do if you don't get a cd key in the box.  is there some phone # you can call and if not, what happens with the retailer when you take it back in that state?  makes me wary to buy it until i know.

two, i would hazard a guess that the copy protection is already broken by our fine pirate friends, so a exe replacement should be forthcoming.

Where did you get it from Ceekay?

Gamestop called me about my pre-order last night.   I fired it up for a hour and set everything to it's maximum settings, getting an OK FPS, not quite smooth but I'm going to do some tweaking.  I didn't check to see what FRAPS said it was, as it always seems smooth to me until I check and find out that it's super low, so in this case knowing will bother me more.  I died a couple of times from bleeding- the warning symbols don't seem to be as noticeable this time around.  So far I'm in the beginning area, where you get the basics of the faction war down.  I can see it getting kind of annoying-  I'll approach an objective only to get a call to defend anther one, and man do those guys whine.  so, I'll go to help defend, and usually I arrive just in time for them to kill the last enemy  mad

And now for some random screenies!

I found an artifact!

Thar she blows!

A Distant Thunder

A familiar face

Mr. Bartender

Random scenery, all setting set to high with DX10 enabled.
