Ok you SERIOUSLY have to DL this one and see it's STRIKE attack. AWESOME. I wish striking and biting could go into videos but you can't do them in test drive mode. By orgull

Here's what I'm wondering. The Sporepedia has downloads as jpegs. Does that mean when you download one of those jpegs, that the game literally recreates it? What happens if you put something in there that wasn't originally created with the creator? Or do the jpegs contain the data needed for the creatures?
The downloads are actually PNG, not JPG. All the creature data has been rather cleverly encoded into the PNG itself, so yes, the Creature Creator will be able to replicate any creature by just seeing its thumbnail picture. Err, yeah, that's what I meant. I knew it was some graphic format lol. That IS very cool and innovative and I wonder if other games will follow suit. It's actually quite brilliant since it doesn't require big files to download and unzip like most games would require you to do.

I'm still having the same problem where I can't access any of my creatures or import new ones. I'm hoping the full program today won't have the same problem but I have the feeling it will.

It's a known bug, and they're working on fixing it. Just leave your creature files where they are, and they should work after the fix.

Can someone explain the two creature editors' difference? Is it true that the full editor contains ALL the body parts and is the same editor that will be shipping with the game more or less? If so, I need to upgrade!
How does one obtain the full editor? Must you sign in to EA and pre-order the game through them, or are there other ways to get it?

The full editor does indeed contain all the body parts. I got mine through Direct2Drive, and it works nicely.

Why are they charging $10 for something that's going to be in the game anyway? I played with the trial version, and loved it, but you can't really do anything with it except make them dance around within the bounds of that circle.
They should be giving the full editor away free, it would be a massive advertising campaign for Spore. At least if they're going to charge $10, they should give you code or coupon for $10 off of Spore, else you're paying twice for the editor. Or perhaps they could give the editor away as a pre-order incentive.

They ARE giving $10 off in the EA Store if you purchase the Creature Creator. They're probably charging for this thing because it's such a major part of the game. The trial version is pretty flexible for a demo anyway.

Thanks for the head's up. If I can get $10 off the Spore download in Sept, I'd have no problem paying $10 now for the creature editor.

I got it through the UK site. Seems the US is getting the thing one day later than Europe for some bizarre reason.

Nah, they said something about 10:00 PST for the US Direct2Drive version. That should be in about 2 hours. No idea why the UK one would have come out earlier, other than to satisfy the worldwide release of June 18 for the creator.

1up.com posts a 'nightmare gallery' of Spore creations. Some pretty freaky stuff in there to check out.

Well the EA Store is complete and total garbage...not even recognizing my pre-order, and there's absolutely no way to tell it to start downloading...and their CS page is down. This from a billion dollar game company's own store??

Well, the European release date was the June 17, and that's when the Creature Creator was released at Direct2Drive.co.uk. Even though I bought it several hours after it was released, I've still had it for over 24 hours by now.

BTW, I get the DL button on my Direct2Drive account, but the DL manager errors. I guess the file is still not all the way ready.

So, aside from creating a zillion variations of penises, what else is the creator good for?

Pierson's Puppeteer. I had never even heard of it until I started seeing people trying to recreate him in just about every Spore creature thread I came across.

Hey Hark, how do you get the little thumbnail pics? I have been looking for that one and can't find out how.
I am recreating some of the more iconic D&D creatures I can remember. I wish I had the Monster Manual here with me... would make it easier. So far I have a Xorn, an Owlbear, and an Umber Hulk made. Someone else I saw had made a displacer beast.

Those aren't just the pics, those are the actual save files as well. I'm just posting the .png files that the game saves the creatures as, no special trick needed

Ditto, all my creatures end up looking about the same. I have no creativity.
