Spiderman 2 - What good are all the combos?

I love the game, really but I have to say I hope they work on the combat in the next game (and I really hope they make another game with this engine becuase it is very good)

I have bought every possible upgrade but combat is still a button mash.  I Maybe I am doing it wrong but I have never gotten a combo pulled off by choice.  I get one I try that button combo until I am almost dead and then give up and button mash.

That and how in the hell do all these criminals get so quick?  It is about impossible to hit those guys with webbing after you get close.  They can dodge a ton of times!  Come on!  Are they all superheroes too?

I like using the aerial uppercut to isolate them, or the hold down Y and direction to shoot a big web ball from a distance.  Short of that, it's been tough for me to find uses for all the bought moves, too.  I love the single mugger missions because they let me experiment.

I never used the combos, either.  The only move I would usually do is the sprinting uppercut, then jump up and pummel them in the air.  Other than that, it's just button mashing.

The only locomotion move I use is the zipline when you are swinging, and that is just to add some style.

I would like to tie the muggers to lamp posts, but I don't think I bought that move yet.

Agreed.  Button mash-city for me, too.  And the upercut is the best way to divide and conquer.

Yeah, the webhang is the best:  X,X,Y,A
You have to be near something to hang them on, streetlight, lamp post, etc.
You have to land the 2 punches (web ball can help with this)
You can hang them even if still "alive" then lock on jump and finish them off.
If you have to dodge or get hit, it breaks combos.

Just XXY does the web grab that can go to web hammer or web rodeo.  Rodeo can clear out an area and hammer can finish off the person.

Use impact webbing first; (left trigger then Y.)  

Rather than dropping in to the fight and button mashing, I like to do spiderman-esqe stuff like do most of the fight while hanging on the wall (use the camera lock to impact web and web yank the thugs up to you.)   And fight while swinging on your webbing most of the time.

Dropping and the ground and just scrapping it up is so "Batman".
