Eh, the original NWN still lags from time to time with max shadows, so that doesn't really surprise me.

I dont think I play a single game with shadows on. When they are on, I barely notice them, they add little to nothing to the graphical quality in my eyes, and they almost uniformly kill system performance. Screw shadows biggrin

but but bu... where would the thief hide if the shadows are turned off?  ninja  I'd love to play with you guys but working nights hampers my abilities to showup at the right time.  If it works out that I could play and since there are a couple of thiefs already  icon_twisted  I'll pay homage to the OO thread on NWN and make a bearish warrior (after IceBear) and have him use a rapier (DArtagnan
) or maybe a druid in bear form wielding a greatsword, yeah that is the ticket!

Well, seeing as my PC wouldn't run Oblivion at an acceptable framerate, guess I will be out on this.  Damnit.

Graphics look just fine.  However, they don't justify the system requirements IMO.

Honestly, I still think they look pretty bad.  Actually, "bad" is probably the wrong word.  They just look very dated.  They look like something I would have expected to see a year or two ago, not from a new game with such hefty system requirements.

However, the more I hear about the story and gameplay, the less a concern the graphics become.  If the story is as good as is rumored, graphics could look like the original NWN and I'd still enjoy it.

The starting area is FULL of trees, butterflies, birds, people, etc. etc. and easily justifies it.  While the texture work still looks 'plastic' to me, it isn't hideous to look at, IMHO.

Graphics look pretty bad I think, especially for the requirements.  I'm still pretty mixed on this game.  If it is as fun as the second NWN expansion pack, it'll be good.  If NWN 2 has a story on par with the default NWN story though, I'm out.  The first game's default story was pretty bad.

Does it look better than Oblivion?

Nothing in any screens or videos I've seen looks anywhere near as good as Oblivion.  When I first saw screens in video for Oblivion, I though" damn, probably will need a really fast rig to run that in all of it's glory" so the steep requirements there felt justified. I think NWN 2 looks just fine graphically, but I have yet to see any movie or image that leads me to believe that there is any justification for the heavy system requirements other than Obsidian probably isn't really that efficient at coding (KOTOR 2 actually seemed to run worse on Xbox than the original despite no apparent boost in graphics).

I'm sure alot of you have seen this already, but if not, this video shows off some of the character creation/gameplay.

Personally, I think I like the indoor areas more than the outdoor areas from the crappy videos I have seen so far.  Maybe the real version on my monitor will have me thinking differently, and it's possible other games have spoiled me with outdoor-type graphics.  Actually, I like the looks of the indoor stuff quite a bit though.

YouTube Video - Approx. 6 mins. long

I dont think it looks better than Oblivion, not even close.  So yeah I wonder how the sys reqs can be even higher.  Granted, I havent actually played the game just seen movies/screens.  I think high sys reqs hinder sales, and low ones boost sales (see Blizzard games, its part of their success), why dont they get that?

This is one of the few games that I think actually looks far better in motion than it does in static screenshots.  The few in-game movies I've seen actually look rather impressive, while the still shots all seem very dull.  It's still not going to win any graphics awards, but most of my initial "Wow, this looks like complete ass" fears have been eliminated.

My beta is limited in areas that I can explore, so I have more of a general idea of the gameplay mechanics and looks, but I'm pestering Atari to get me a copy as early as possible.  I'll let you know if I'm successful. smile

Whoohoo!  Thanks to a helpful poster on QT3, I just purchased a 7800 GS (I had no idea there were any AGP cards significantly better than a 6600 GT), so hopefully now I'll be able to enjoy NWN 2 sooner rather than later.

Man I'm excited! Hopefully my gogamer order will ship on the 31st and get here before the weekend.

I have a question though. Check this page out.

http://www.gogamer.com/searchresults.htm?keywords=neverwinter+nights+2&categoryId=&x=0&y=0

Can someone tell me the difference between the Neverwinter Nights 2 editions? I understand the Limited Edition, but what's the deal with the difference between the white box and the black box.

That's an error on GoGamer's part.  The white box is for the Diamond Edition of the original Neverwinter Nights.

Direct 2 Drive has the preload up on their site. It's even compatible with the official patches. 4.5 gig download.

If they'd say when it's actually going to be available, I'd be interested.  Especially if it's Tuesday since it looks like most stores won't have it until Wednesday.

It is better, but not by enough to justify upgrading.  The original poster was going from a 6600GT, which is significantly weaker than a 6800GT.  For him a 7800GS is a noticeable improvement.

Yeah, for me, my framerate doubled in most games and my 3D Mark score about doubled too.  So, at $199 after rebate, the upgrade was more than worth it.

Don't know what the jump will be for a 6800 GT, but you can check at:

Ok, so I have a p4 3.2, 1gb ram and a Radeon 9800 XT 256mb.  It looks like I meet the processor and ram minimum, but my video card won't cut it.  I have to use an AGP card, any suggestions on an upgrade that won't cost me a kidney?  Lately it seems the nVidia cards are the better bargain?

Just read the post look like my 6600 is the bare minimum.   No money to upgrad at this point, so I might have to hold off on NWN2.   No wonder PC gaming is turning me off

I can't say for certain since I don't have the game yet, but the card I just bought (as mentioned above), the 7800 GS seems to be about the fastest AGP card you can get.  It goes for $300-350 at a lot of places but I just got it from Newegg for $199.00 (including $30 rebate).  Sale ends today though:

I will have to check, the system is a Dell XPS.

Looks like it is a 460w power supply.
