Looks like they are releasing the game with a whole bunch of added features and NO STARFORCE As of right now, they are translating it to English sadly enough http://elementalgames.ru/forum/index.php?lang=engCheck out the link for their non-official forums as it contains a plethora of information.

Dude! I spent way too much time on what was (on the surface) such a simple game. I can't wait to dive right back in again. Here, have a screenshot of the CE edition of the 'addon' (which yes, still includes the original Space Rangers):

My picture is from that. Notice the little Ranger pin in the corner. Here, have a GIANT patch fix (that isn't the entire thing) from the last version we got, to a few versions back from the expansion (so in other words, this is not the entire patch list).

No no no. There is no US special edition of the game. The US version tops out at version 1.3, and the DVD you linked to comes with both 1 and 2 (but NOT Space Rangers 2: Reloaded, which is currently being translated to English according to the forums). To the best of my knowledge, this DVD DOES come with Starforce (as I think it was the same one I ended up buying, just via a different retailer). But I could be completely wrong as far as Starforce goes. Just be warned that Starforce, last time I checked, is NOT Vista friendly. But YMMV.

And after a bit more looking around, I found a version WITHOUT Starforce. I forgot that Stardock picked this one up to resell. Heck, there's even a link to GT's review from that site.

Yeah, I had to review DiRT with Starforce...still attempting to cleanse that crap. Thanks, I guess I will order it from Stardock and then enjoy it until the Reloaded version hits our shores. Thanks a lot Destructor.

So, does DiRT's score drop 10% for every week you have to spend cleaning up Starforce from your pc?

Consider it version 2.0 of Space Rangers 2. But you'll have to pay a bit of money to get all the new stuff included in the mega patch.

So the Space Rangers 2: Reboot expansion has been released in the US. FEATURING!!!- Five new text quests.
- 27 new planetary battle maps.
- 10 new hyperspace battle maps.
- More than 50 new governmental missions of different types to complete.
- New unique equipment.
- Two new game modes: text-quests and planetary battles.
- Improved galaxy searching system.
. I sold my copy a while back, so I'm trying to figure out if there's enough new stuff there to justify a $40 repurchase for the game+expansion combo pack. The "new unique equipment" bullet point is the one I'm most curious about. If it's 5-10 new ship parts then I don't think it'll be enough to grab me, but if there's a lot of new ways to customize my ship then I think I'll bite.

Does Vista kill Space Rangers 2? Or is it the Starforce?
I'm interested in the expansion, but it sounds a little light on the additions. I also have the original DVD and I am a bit leery to run it on this Vista laptop, for fear of complications.

Vista is outright incompatible with how Starforce works. So, in the end, the game just won't run. That said - I think there's a Starforce version compatible with Vista. Why the hell you'd want to do something like that to your PC is another question entirely though. Can't you just install the game and immediately crack it? Won't that get around the Starforce crapola?

Won't that get around the Starforce crapola? If you have an older, incompatible version of StarForce, you simply need to "upgrade" by downloading a file from their site and running it. There are no compatibility issues as long as you've done that (outside of the mystery as to why the movies don't run in SR2). Starforce does not break Vista, nor the other way around. If you want to avoid it or boycott their games then I can't blame you one iota, but don't make perceived compatibility issues your reason behind it. I run a few StarForced games on my PC (including Space Rangers 2) and they're perfectly fine, and I run 64-bit Vista Ultimate. Mind you, I still hate StarForce, but they -do- work.

Ugh... well, I could update Starforce, or I could just not play Space Rangers 2. It isn't like I have a lack of gaming goodness. I can just play In Nomine and OOTP2009 instead.
Any report on Reloaded would be nice though, I would love to know exactly what the additions are.

IIRc just install the game than replace the .exe with the nocd exe and play away. Starforce installs the first time you run the non cracked .exe. You can dlaod the SF removal and double check it isnt there but it never found it on my system doing it this way.

I bit the bullet and updated Starforce. I haven't had any problems with it before, and I think I will be ok now. So far, no problems and the game loaded up. It can be a curse to be a hardcore gamer, most casual people just "accept" when they see any dialogue boxes.

Dan, The intro video plays fine on my Vista. In fact, the quality is much better than most intro videos (well, screen quality, the voice acting is terrible, but that is not rig dependent ). I don't know about the other vids, but I wanted to let you know that those work for me. Bael

https://store.stardock.com/product.aspx?productid=ESD-TGN-W286Let me also say that if you have an "original" SR2 serial you can't enter into Impulse. However, if you have SR2 installed, Reboot will work. Just make sure to install into the same directory as SR2. Also note, Starforce is NOT included with the SR2's on Impulse.

Does Reboot overwrite the game EXE? Starforce gets installed when you first launch the game EXE, right? I have the starforce-infested CD version and suppose I install but don't launch the game. If I then buy Reboot through Impulse, will Starforce (from the original CD installation) still get installed when I start it up for the first time?

Good question Shinjin. I would imagine that reloaded creates a new .exe and therefore would override the SF one so A nocd .exe would not be needed. Just do not run the game until reloaded is installed on top of it and make sure to launch from the shortcut reloaded makes.
