Ok... I got it, it's installed, and I'm ready to pwn noobz.  Where's everyone playing at?

BTW: if you have an ATI card, make sure you get the ATI Quake Wars hotfix (it will be included in their next driver release).

grabbed the Quake Wars demo and wasn't too impressed- nothing stood out to make it a must have title, so that's one less choice I have to make.

Holy cow, I ended up playing til 2:15.  This is as good as ET!  They really got it "right", IMO... now all I need to do is figure out wtf to do.  Everything on the damn Strog side sounds the same.

Have you guys seen the Team Fortress 2 videos on Gametrailers?

Hilarious!

When I watched this one - and they got to the DemoMan... I couldn't help but think of my good friend Soulchilde from the good ol' days of R6:Vegas.  "Grenade Out!"

I love the Soldier portion of that one.  and I can just picture Soulchilde with the same psychotic grin on his face as the Demoman's right before he blows you up.

OMG that was hilarious.

I like playing the Scout or the Spy.  I got so good as the Scout I wasn't allowed to play it an LAN parties for awhile, and when I played the Spy the opposing team would end up not using any Medics.

Those of you planning on getting TF2 - are you going PC or 360?  Just curious.

I'm leaning very heavily toward going 360, but I think I need to wait for some impressions on how well it controls with the gamepad.

I never play multiplayer but Team Fortress Classic had me absorbed for over a year.  So I'm not sure but I'm leaning toward PC as it will be both cheaper for the game plus I won't have to shell out $50 for Xbox Live Gold.

I could play any class in TFC, but I really racked up INSANE kills with the Spy.  Killing a Hardware Guy with one or two kits was extremely satisfying.

I must have played at least a year or two straight on the "Two Forts" map.  Every so often I'll still fire up TFC and spend some time on it.  I think the only things which pulled me away from TFC were Day of Defeat (at least for a while, until they changed it way too much) and especially Enemy Territory.

ET is such a huge step up from standard Team Fortress... but I'm really looking forward to going back.  On one hand I love the simplicity of Team Fortress, and on the other I love the complexity of Enemy Territory.

It's OK but not something I'm going to pick up with everything else coming out.  I'd say grab it and give it a spin before you buy it.

And... damn it.  I'm really enjoying the Quake Wars demo, so I'll be getting that, and I've already purchased TF2.  But now Gabe at Penny Arcade keeps talking about Call of Duty 4... and it sounds really damn good, like Enemy Territory (which we can't play any more... damn you GameSpy!!!!).

I don't know, though.  At this point, I kind of have to refuse to buy any more online FPS games, no matter how good they might be.  I only have so much gaming time.

Well that's cool.  I just checked, and HL2 is available for download (I already purchased the "Orange Box" through Steam).  I'm getting it now, but it won't be done til tomorrow (my connection is really damn slow).  And since I have to work... no testing until tomorrow night.

It's great.  It runs great at 1440x900 on mostly medium settings on my aging rig.  I was completely gonzo for TFC back in the day so this is just an awesome upgrade.  The character models are hilarious and the maps look great.  They have an amazing visual style going and it just adds to the sweet gameplay.  I played 3 hours so far and I can tell I'll be spending a lot of time with this.

I also can't imagine playing it with a gamepad.  It's so fast-paced that mouse/keyboard is the only way to go.

I suck at these types of games but have a blast.  Here's my stats page: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197968503257/stats/TF2

Hey... that's pretty cool, warning.

I think I want IN!  Maybe I'll create an account and see if I can get the name Soulchilde!  This way, I can just toss grenades out willy-nilly and not give a crap who I blow up in the process!

Is there a friends' list, or anything like that?  Can you organize it so people you know play on the same team?

I'll be buying the Orange Box to play EP2, TF2 & Portal and when UT3 comes out I'll grab it too.

Not that I have tons of time to play them: I'll do a little here and a little there, but the Valve titles are not to be missed IMHO.

I just finished EP1 a couple days ago and I bought it the day it was released. I may be a little slow, but I do finish them.

I played almost 3 hours of Team Fortress 2 today.

Here's what I learned:  Some servers are cool, others are filled with assholes.

The game itself is a ton of fun.

I've played probably about 10 hours this week.  Once I sit down to play it, I just can't stop... it's scary how addicted I am.  Of course, I've been waiting for ohh... 8 some odd years for it to come out so it should be expected I guess.

It's just an amazing game, although they really had better release more maps when it hits its official release.  The TF Classic mod was mentioned somewhere, and that will have its place with some people as TF2 has some major changes.  No grenades, and no medic infection being the most obvious.

Other than that, it feels really strange to be playing 2 fort again since it IS very similar, and that was ages ago.

I'm downloading the quake wars demo, and had high expectations.  Why such a bad vibe for it in this thread?  What's so mediocre about it?

Beats me, I love it.  It does take getting used to, though: the maps and gameplay are more complicated than "capture the flag".  It just depends on whether you want to spend the time to go through the learning curve.

What I experienced of the Quake Wars demo wasn't bad, but it seemed very close to the Battlefield series.  Something that has been done before for the most part.  Some things seemed improved or tweaked to help you out, but not as much as I was expecting I think.

I did play the Humans more than the Strogg because didn't like the Strogg weapons all that much, so that may make a difference.

My only complaint about the Strogg is all the crap sounds the same.  The Devestator... the Oblitorator... the Obfusiator... the Dectructor... the Violator... the Shutthefuckupatdor...  I can't tell anything apart!  Are they talking about a class name or a weapon?  Who knows?  It all sounds the same.
