Yeah you guys who are complaining about the controls must have played too much CoD.  I jumped on the demo tonight and they felt perfectly natural for me.  Of course that's probably because I rarely play FPS games on a console because FPS games on a console suck.  It was a pretty good demo I thought although I won't be buying it until it's cheap for the aforementioned reason.  Until mouse and keyboard is standard for console FPS games I will not be partaking.  That said it's undoubtedly the best shooter on the PS3 (well I haven't played CoD 4 so I guess I'm not making the most informed opinion).

Edge has always reviewed pretty harshly if I recall.

But wow, that's a seriously nasty set of review scores.  Well... 7s are still good, but wow.

I'm still looking forward to Deadly Creatures, and The Maw is definitely better than a 5.  Tenchu is better than a 6, for that matter, though I could see someone not getting into it.  I'm really hoping that Klonoa is good, too.

Is Edge one of the ones who use the full 1-10 range, not just 6-10? If so, then those scores aren't as bad as they look.

Yeah and i like that but at the same time they often give average games 8's.... Very uneven review scores imo.

Well even though i played the beta i had to play through the demo twice to get used to the controls again... Takes some time getting used to but when you learn them they are great.

Yep.  For my money they are the best review outlet going right now.

i listen to any review that does a 1-10 review but i still think a % is the best type for a review...Playstation Magazine with their 5/5 is pretty much useless to me

i think its Famitsu that does  40/40..which is unique, but they do pretty much narrow it down,so i like that kind as well

What happened to the GT review? Does this mean it was below 90% and therefore not eligible for early publication?

The NA demo is not available unless you get a promo code for reserving at Gamestop.

The European demo, however, is free  icon_biggrin

So get yourself a UK account and dl it..

Maybe Sessler knew what he was talking about.  News is coming that Killzone 2 has broken street date.

Grain of salt, and all that.

EDIT:  Of course, it turns out this is in Dubai.

Uh, Ron.  In Killzone 1 you played Yahn Templar.  He's now the commander of the invasion fleet, or at least the battlegroup commander of infantry landing on planet.  He's the guy you see shaking hands and giving the man-hug to Rico in the opening cinematic (and if I read correctly, seen in various cutscenes during the game).

Garza is a completely new character just for this game.

One thing that's sad to see is that the story just isn't as good as the original Killzone 1.  It's strange to say but KZ1 actually had one of the best FPS stories out there.  Nothing all that deep, but each character had more motivations, internal strife, and an actual character arc along with personal tie ins to the war.  Yahn had his thing with Luger and vice versa, Hahka was fighting for his planet and family left on Helghan, Rico was borderline bigot and eventually came to respect a Hahka and his Helghan roots.

And yeah, I know a bit much about the story, but I liked what I saw in the first one. No co-op makes me  crybaby.

OOps!  That'll teach me to try to recall that kind of thing from memory - I've corrected it.  Props to you for the accuracy bump.  smile

Because of the hardware limits, I'd have to say, give it a try, but if you don't like the issues go watch the cutscenes on youtube.  There are story elements revealed in non-cutscene dialog, but not that much.

I'm pretty tolerant of the issues, but even I couldn't make my way through it.

I liked it more than most but, at this point, no.  It's aged *very* rapidly IMO and doesn't hold up well at all.  There is a lot of ambition in the game (which is one of the reasons I enjoyed it when it first came out) but I think bar for FPS has risen too much in the time since it released.  Also, I can barely recall anything about the story  or characters so they certainly didn't make an impression on me (and I adore story-focused FPS games).

Killzone 1 was the only FPS I ever finished on the PS2.  And I'll be damned if I can recall any detals about the story.  paranoid

I briefly considered replaying it to get ready for Killzone 2 but never got around to it.

Spoiler for Hiden:
The good guy who kind of seems like a bad guy right off the bat is really a bad guy. OMG shocker!

Seriously though I enjoyed Killzone quite a bit (there is a thread somewhere about why I enjoyed the SP more than Halo), but the group of characters and their interactions was what was entertaining, not really the story as a whole, which was pretty cliche and as I implied in the spoiler, could be seen coming a mile away.
