I heard Spore was delayed indefinitely... but is that a "it's done when it's done" delay, or is that a "delayed and put in the Indiana Jones warehouse right next to the Ark of the Covenant" delayed?

When I saw that Spore presentation with Robin Williams, I had a sinking feeling the game was either going to suck or would end up in Duke Nukem Forever-land.  A good and exciting game doesn't need Robin Williams to show it off.

Is there some new news that you're referring to?  I didn't think anyone expected to see the release happen earlier than late 2008 after they announced Soren Johnson was being brought onto the team.

As far as I have heard the game is alive and kicking and supposed to be technologically a freaking masterpiece but they are still working on making the actual game stuff fun and involved-2008 release I think.

Didn't Soren Johnson recently leave Firaxis to work on Spore at Maxis? I think it's still a long ways off, but certainly not dead.

Definitely not dead, I'm really glad to hear this news actually. It seems like the development is setting the rules. While in 3D Realms case, that is a bad thing, in Maxis / Will Wright's case, that's definitely a good thing. slywink

The delayed indefinitely was just a rumor caused by someone reading way too much into a single small statement.

Spore is still alive and well, however now that they've got the engine and technology behind the game working, they're now focusing on the gameplay aspects.

great, so we all get to play "amoeba" for 18 months after release.  wonderful.  if they follow valve's model, in game evolution will take as long as actual evolution.

Sam and Max worked as an episodic game.  However, for FPS games that have art designs that are in any way realistic aren't the best games to have go episodic.  It just takes a long time to make new content for FPS games.

Spore is in Alpha and can be played through from beginning to end. (as of E3 2007)  Now is the behemoth task of having people play through it and critique.  It is *possible* that it'll hit in 2007, but I'd expect Q1 2008.  They'll be showing it in Leipzig and it'll be playable by press behind closed doors.  Dead?  Not hardly folks. smile

2008 release was confirmed several months ago (and I think it was even mid-2008 at least but I can't remember).

It's fiscal 2009, so expect it late in the year.

According to the latest EA financial reports, it's due sometime between March and May 2008.

I expected the game to be pushed back even more when the Firaxis guy was brought on. Hopefully he can put the game on track and get it out the door.
