I mentioned a few weeks ago that I would be a bastard, and now we have followthrough.

I've got MarioKart DS and the red machine. I don't know about accessories or the games.

Here's what I'm looking for :

1) RPG (turnbased / pseudo realtime)
2) platform / action game
3) quirky / fun game

I saw a few suggestions  such as Castlevania DS and Meteos.

Now, I'd like information on what the second screen is used for in your recommendations, and comparisons to older games (if applicable). I've only got 2 days to decide, so hence the new thread.

eg : Castlvania - 2nd screen map/inventory, just like classic side-scrolling castlevanias of old.

I appreciate your help!  Cool

OUENDAN!!!
(reliable ebay auctioner link)

Bottom screen shows your cheer squad and the places to tap & slide your stylus to the catchy music, top screen shows a hilarious scene unfolding in a well drawn manga comic book style.

This is the epitome of fun and quirky, look no further for #3 on your list!

I haven't played it but Mario & Luigi Partners in Time would be a good fit for your RPG needs.   It's turn-based but also has timed button presses which aid your attacks and defense.  The first M&L game was incredible and I'm sure this one is great as well.

For a platformer I'd recommend either Castlevania for Kirby.  Both are great.  There's also Super Mario 64 DS which is a DS-remake of the old Super Mario 64 game.

Quirky/fun?  Phoenix Wright is one of the wackier, funnier games I've played.  Meteos is fun.  Animal Crossing?

I sort of want that game, but $50 shipped for a random-ass import is just way too much.

If you have a DS, you have to try Meteos.  Far and away my favorite game for the system so far.

That ebayer lists it for $33 sometimes, so with the cheapest shipping option it'd come to under $40.  Still a lot for a DS game, I know.  It's really too bad there isn't a cheaper way to import it.  Sure am glad I bit the bullet though!

LE, if you didn't dig Gitaroo-Man, even though I love Ouendan, I'd advise you to stay away.

Based on what your looking for, I'd recommend either Castlevania or Mario & Luigi : Partners in Time.

I had never played much Castlevania before, but the DS version has me hooked. The top screen is great for the map, but not much else.  Touch screen functionality feels a bit tacked on, but it's not really an issue.

M & L surprised me with how fun it is.  I've put a few hours into it and it's could actually fill all three of your criteria.  The top screen is used to control the babies while the bottom is used for the normal M&L.  The two are often used in conjunction when they are separated, otherwise it's mainly used as a map.  I didn't play the first one, so I can't compare the two.

Animal Crossing will eat your time like nothing else.

But aside from those, if you like rhythm games at all...

Ouendan.  Really.

Try out, in no particular order:

Kirby Canvas Curse <-- totally awesome
Yoshi Touch and Go <-- short but sweet, all about gameplay
Wario Ware Touched
Meteos
Trace Memory
Pac Pix
Zoo Keeper
Feel the Magic Xy/XX
and everything else that's recommended in this thread.

I had just noticed this a few minutes ago, but with all these new DS owners there are a lot of decent games that came out this summer that can be had cheaper now and Are worth every penny.

Oh yeah and all you music game loving importers need to import BAND BROS. You will love it, no lie. So go get it!
