from some former C&C devs comes this new turn based strategy game:

Quote
Los Angeles, California and Seattle, Washington Haunted Temple Studios announces Skulls of the Shogun, an invigorating cocktail of 1960s flavored sorcery and strategy in development for major gaming platforms. Washing up on the shores of the afterlife, players meet and join forces with vibrant ghost-samurai warriors, magical animal-monks, and mustachioed samurai generals on the way to capture Skulls of the Shogun.  With its roots in classic turn-based strategy gaming, Skulls of the Shogun retains depth and adds a smooth, simple interface that makes it accessible and enjoyable even to players new to the genre.  Players immerse themselves in battle with fun and unique game play features amidst lush, eerie environments.  Also featuring 4-player local and networked multi-player and an original score inspired by old samurai films and dub, Skulls of the Shogun offers simple-yet-deep, refined and offbeat gameplay.

I'm not sure what they mean by 1960's flavor, maybe bad dubbing and artificial film scratches during the cutscenes?

I've played through the trial on XBLA a couple times today and I'm on the fence with it. While the hand drawn art and humorous dialog is charming, I'm unsure of its long term appeal. There really isn't a whole lot to it.

At five bucks as a mobile app, I'd definitely grab it but $15 seems a bit steep.

9/10

After reading their review it seems to be a bit more in depth than I first thought. May end up biting for the local multi alone.

It's supposed to be very similar to Advanced Wars, so it should be a good game.  I'm not big on letting demos form my judgment of games because it's pretty rare that they are done in a way that truly makes me want to play a game.  I've listened to discussion by the guy making this game and he is in love with Advance Wars and made this as a lover letter to that franchise, while adjusting some things he didn't like about the series.

Actually, it's tried hard not to be like advanced wars as much as the simpler strategic gameplay makes it like it.

Let me explain. I listened to an interview where the devs said that while he liked AW, there were flaws in AW that he was trying to avoid. I forget the exact arguments, but it was stuff like it being too much of a numbers game, units needing too much positioning and the difficulties of that.

From the little time I played it, the game was very fun and intuitive. Cross platform multiplayer is a definitive plus

This is what I was trying to say.  He's got AW as the base and he's correcting the flaws he feels it has.

Sadly, this is only for Windows 8 and various windows devices.

Now the 6-12 month wait for them to be able to port it.

Yes 360.

It`s Windows 8, Windows 8 RT, Windows Phone (7.5, Cool, and XBL.

The phone implementation is more intuitive than a PC with no touch interface.

The XBL version might be interesting.

Looks like this comes out on Steam next month for $15 or $12 if you preorder.

What was the final verdict from people here?  Worth picking up?
