Hey gang, is there a site that tracks video game sales?  Something like boxofficemojo.com for games?

There's a private group that does that.  I believe it costs several thousands of dollars to get their updates with sales numbers.  They are the NPD group, however they do not include Wal-Mart stores (just a little FYI).

AVault has the weekly(?) top 10 list for PC games, and I'm sure they do console games too.

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Wal-Mart doesn't provide any of their numbers to anyone anymore from what I know.  I work for a market research company, and a couple of years ago Wal-Mart decided that they weren't going to sell their data anymore.  It sure did turn our world upside down.

The NPDs might become a bit more readily available.  NPD took over or for or bought out PC Data I believe.  While still not readily available to the public there are forums you can go to every month where console sales data is leaked and I expect to see more PC data popping up now that NPd is covering it.  Doom 3, for example, had sales of approx 375,000 in the month of August.  I can't remember the exact number off hand.

[EDITED TO ADD] For comparison, the number two title of August only sold 29,000 so the delta between Doom 3 and the rest of the PC titles is huge.

I was recently told that the forums at gaming-age.com are very into sales numbers. Someone there has access to the sales records and will disclose upon request.
