O.K.
I have quickly browsed through the Creating of a Tournament process on Live. I have not really examined it well though.
If this thing is as easy to set up as Links, I think we should do a really quick 8 man tournament or something, just for shits and giggles, to try and test it out.
If anyone knows the minute details in setting up/joining one of these, feel free to share.
Unless someone beats me to it (and by all means feel free to do this if you want to), I will create a small 8-man tournament when I get home from work today. The first 8 people to sign up will participate. It won't count for bragging rights or anything like that. It will simply be a way to 'test the waters' for the Real Tournament that Eco is setting up.
If you decide to set it up before I get home, why don't you do this:
Name of Tournament: consolegold t1 Password: gold Type: Private Participants: 8
Now, I don't remember if the Admin. of the tournament has to send out invites necessarily, or if any would-be participant simply needs to go into the Join Tournament screen and type in the name and password to join it.
It should be very easy to get 8 willing gg/cg test subjects to try this thing out though, wouldn't you think?
Thoughts?

The story is this:
Long ago, I was the lead tester on Empire Earth. I had a team of about 12 guys working with me, and we were trying to make the day more entertaining by giving creative names to our multiplayer games and players. The game name determined what you had to choose as your player name. Nude Celebrities was the game name. So... I picked Nude Rick James. It's the name that I now do most of my online gaming with.

There are a lot of tournaments listed, and it is difficult to navigate the list. I was going to create the consolegold one, but didn't. I'll join when it is created, though.

Allright. It is set up. The easiest way to find it (there are LOTS of tournaments to wade through) is to do this: 1. Go to Leagues2. Hit Join Tournament3. Hit the Black Button to do a search 4. Type in con5. It should bring up the consolegold t1 tournament 6. Password is goldThat should do it. Should be fun to test it out. Hopefully we get 8 people. I have absolutely no clue how it works. (that's the idea of doing a dry run  ) so don't bother asking me. Oh, if anyone cares, I took the Raiders, of course. LD

I'm going to the Red Sox vs. Yankees game at Fenway tomorrow, so I can't play in the afternoon. There's also a Boston Fark.com party tomorrow night that I'm thinking about...

Well, the first game officially completed, in a bad way. Soulbringer and I were tied in the 4th quarter when all of the sudden the 'network conditions were too bad to continue.' Stinks. I guess arbitration awarded the victory to him, since he was playing a lot better than me anyhow. Stats: http://leagues.espnvideogames.com/t/game.php?l=5023&g=1300Edit: Best play of the game: Rams throw the ball, Julius Peppers tips it at the line and intercepts it. He makes it about 2 steps before getting hit by one of the members of the Rams OL.... and FUMBLES THE BALL! St. Louis OL falls on the ball and recovers it - 1st and 10 for the Rams! Cool! but Damn! Here's how it's listed online: Marc Bulger (STL) pass behind line intercepted by Julius Peppers (CAR). Returned for 0 yards Fumble by Julius Peppers (CAR) forced by Dave Wohlabaugh (STL) recovered by Dave Wohlabaugh (STL) and carried for 0 yards (Peppers) p.s. did you have your voice thing on? Could you hear me talking?

Well i dont know that I was playing much better than you. Other than that first drive of mine and the stupid non field goal i didnt get at the end of the half, you were moving the ball in the air pretty good and stuffing me. Was still lots of fun and its cool to see the stats and stuff online like that.

TML - I am going online now for awhile. Maybe I'll see you on there.
Funny story. I played against your VIP earlier today cause I couldn't get into a real game. This was before the brackets were set, so that is kinda funny. Anyway, I played on 9 minute quarters. This is no lie, the final score was 10 - 9. If our real game is that defensive, I will laugh. In 36 minutes of game time, we had a total of 17 first downs between us. You picked me off 4 freakin' times!!!!
Can't wait to play "for real".

demonigizer and i just had a tough defensive game in the buffalo rain. i ended up prevailing 13-3, sealing it when jamal lewis broke through for a TD run near the end of the game. the whole game was great fun, and i love how the statistics are saved instantly. a league would kick some serious butt. ps demonigizer, i added you to my friend's list. i hope that's okay

OK. This one takes the cake:
TML and I gear up to play a great game. We finally figure out how to hook up, chat for awhile, and decide this is going to be great fun. I state to him I am leary of the ESPN server stability until they fix it, and with my luck, we'll be lucky to make it into the 3rd quarter.
READY FOR THIS ?
I run one play. ONE MOTHER F***ING PLAY.
Disconnect!
I was credited with the win with a grand total of 3 yards rushing.
I am cursed!
Sorry about that TML. I would GLADLY forfeit and let you continue if I could.
Sega/VC/ESPN can't fix these servers fast enough as far as I'm concerned. I'm glad they are aware of the problems and working on a patch!
I KNEW it was a good idea to do a practice run!

I put a 4 day restriction on when each round needs to be played by.
Possibly, when the initial 4 days are up, the 2nd round opens?
Don't know.
Again, that's why this is a test tournament.
If I am correct however, round two should open Monday or Tuesday.
Let me know if you find out anything.

O.K.
Here is the deal:
This is going to be a SERIOUS RANT post... so cover the children's ears:
The goddamn networking issues with this game are pissing me off more than any words can express. I swear to God, if the gameplay wasn't so addicting, I would toss this game off the highest building in downtown Philadelphia, watch it hit the ground, then take the elevator to the floor, go into the street, and go postal on what's left of this piece of shit with a monster crowbar.
Not only have I been disconnected from my last 2 games (both of which I would have won, but that is the least of my concerns), my drops are now as high as my games completed! With the exception of Scoop, I can NEVER get the voice to work, watch "waiting for opponent" so much it is hardcoded into my optic nerve, and have to deal with bullshit lag that is driving me right the hell off the nut!
Now, I know some people are having few problems... guess what? I'm not one of them!
Nope, not done yet!!!!
Then, I try to go into our Tournament to 'Advance to the Next Round'. After waiting AT LEAST 5 minutes in between all the screens to navigate the tournament menus, it tells me it's not able to advance the tournament at this point in time! Try again later. Eat my ass VC!!!!
Can not wait for this fix to come out!
-- -- -- -- --
O.K. Now:
First, to everyone in the tournament: I will try to advance it in the morning, when supposedly things are alot quieter on the servers. Maybe, and I stress MAYBE, that will give us more luck.
Second, Pr0ner, good game.... at least up until the last minute when the network (at least on my end) went flat on it's face.
Well, I guess something actually worked, I was able to (on my 3rd try I think) get the tournament advanced. Good luck.

Yeah, I find XBOX Live to be kind of slow during the evening hours. However, last night I played Jessie twice at about midnight-3am pacific and the it was smoooooooth as silk. Just stay up longer I say this, but our game got boinked, lol lol. I gotta still play you, btw. Your one run against me was devastating and gave you the win!

By the way I set up another 8 man GG tournament on another thread. Name : Gonegold2 Pass: gold
We have 7 so far. Need 1 more to start. Looks like a lot of power teams so it should be fun.

I hate to say this but I have played at least 20 online games in the last 5 days or so and never had a problem except the voice didn't work when I played LD the second time. The one game I had against Scoop was so fantastic. No lag, voice worked, connection rocked, etc.. etc... This makes it all the more infuriating for me. I know how good it CAN be. Maybe I should change my Gamertag to "Jinxed". LD
