The Duke may be gone, but Sam's still around. I need to re-sub to gametap and give SS2 a spin, but the demo left me feeling unimpressed. Hopefully they'll learn from the fans responses and make it better. every now and then I miss the old days of co-op in the first one, hopefully they keep the tradition and keep it in so we can fight against hordes of rampaging headless mosnters and skeletons

I'm glad to hear they're working on SS3. I loved all 3 games.

no more cartoon like graphics? I don't know, part of the draw for me was the graphics style.

Looks like BFE stands for Before First Encounter, so it's a prequel.

The choice quote: “Holy crap, I am going to make a boatload of cash of this game,” said Fork Parker, chief financial officer at Devolver Digital, the Serious Sam 3: BFE publisher. “I mean that’s what this is all about, right? If this thing comes out in the summer my wife is totally getting the tit job she’s been asking for.”
Serious Sam 3 will bring the boom to PC and game consoles this summer.
When asked for further comment, Fork replied, “Bam. Tit job.”

Their MO is to say and do stupid, immature shit around the media just to get visibility. I expect after SS3 ships their company will dissolve like usual.

there's 3 indie titles that are about to be revealed: Serious Sam Double D (a 2D sidescroller), Serious Sam: The random Encounter (a turn based RPG) and Serisous Sam: Kamikaze Attack.

Checked to see if Mike Wilson (the guy who convinced John Romero that the "...going to make you his bitch" Daikatana ad was a good idea) is involved. Sure enough, he's the CEO. Unsurprising.

These look great. There are some details here and a screenshot for Double D.

from Serious Sam DD: I played this at PAX. The gun stacking is pretty hilarious but the graphics on the game made it look very indie. The guy gave the impression that these were made by very small teams.

Yeah, they definitely are. Mommy's Best Games, who are doing the Serious Sam DD one, is basically one dude with some outsourcing. MBG also released Weapon of Choice and Shoot 1Up, and are working on the cool looking Grapple Buggy. Vlambeer, who are doing the SS: The Random Encounter and did Super Crate Box, is a two man "studio". Be-Rad is another one-man operation working on Kamikaze Attack.

It's also out on Steam for 10% off, or $7.19. I read somewhere that you get another 10% off if you own another Serious Sam game on Steam, but I don't know if that's true.

Serious Sam DD is a lot of fun. It's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a Serious Sam game done in 2D. Also, the SS RPG has a release period and price. According to RPGamer, it should be out in mid-October for $4.99.

Serious Sam : The Random Encounter is out on Steam for $4.49 or $3.99 if you own another Serious Sam game, including Double D. The Random Encounter is an interesting take on the game. You and your partner are constantly running backwards from enemies, and every five seconds you get to enter orders. There are no abilities to use, only weapons and items. Each weapon fires differently - shotguns fire in a certain radius, miniguns fire in a straight line, grenades fire at a specific spot, etc. There's also an action element to battles, as you can move your characters up and down the screen in order to aim weapons and avoid enemy fire. There are no levels to gain, but you do gain items and armor from the random battles. The game is supposed to only be a few hours long, but for less than $5, it's a fun variation on not only Serious Sam, but also on traditional RPG battle systems.

Got the game today since it's on sale at Steam.
I really have enjoyed the game so far. I'm able to run it maxed out in ultra detail at 60fps. The game is starting up slow but has been fun. I'm playing with a controller and it plays well with it since you are constantly backing up using the analog sticks is easier than a keyboard.
