So after gathering dust for the past six months, I have devided to sell off my Xbox and grab a PS2. I watch my brethren sit back and enjoy games such as God of War, Dragon Warrior VIII, Kingdom Hearts, the forthcoming Kingdom Hearts 2, Grandia III, etc...

So what else did I miss or should I look for? I think there's probably a heap of Greatest Hits titles that would keep me busy for a year at least. So name some names, point fingers...Help me spend my $$$

Ok these are the games I would not miss if humanly  possible. Not necessarily in any order, but I will bold my favorites.

Final Fantasy X
Rachet and Clank series
Jak and Daxter Series
Sly Cooper series
Onimusha 1,3, maybe 2.
God of War
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1/2
Dragon Warrior 8
Kingdom Hearts
Dark Cloud 2
ICO
Beyond Good and Evil if you havent played it on another system.
Mercenaries if you haven't played it on another system.

More coming later.

Thanks for the feedback...I played Mercenaries on the Xbox and may grab that again for the pure mindless fun of blowing stuff up.

Dragon Quest 8 is the system seller for me, I'm grabbing that one right away.

What about this Lego Star Wars game I keep hearing about, sounds like it's getting a lot of praise.

Any others?

Well right now I am addicted to Hot Shots Golf for the PSP.  I can only imagine that it would be even better on the PS2.

Hey, it just so happens I'm selling Shadow of the Colossus (with the Prima Guide), along with Resident Evil 4 (also with the guide). ICO too. Shoot me an email if you're interested. This is my first post, but there are people here who can vouch for me if necessary. I've been a lurker here but go back to the days of Gone Gold.

Another set of votes for Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, FFX, and Lego Star Wars from me as well.

I'd also recommend RE4 if you've never checked it out on the Cube.

Shadow of the Colossus, Kingdom Hearts, God of War * Top Tier

Gitaroo-Man, Amplitude, Guitar Hero * Rhythm games

Virtua Fighter 4, Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 3...

There are so many more, but these are some damn good games.

Shadow Hearts Covenant and the original Shadow Hearts.  But I REALLY enjoyed Covenant.  One of my favorite RPGs.

You can't go wrong with a cheap platforming title from the Jax or Sly Cooper series.

I'll also mention Gitaroo-Man, now that there's a reprint and a copy can be had for around $40.  It's a stellar game if you like weird, quirky rhythm games.

I'll just echo all of the other games everyone has mentioned - there really are a load of great ones on the PS2.

If you like first person shooters, I'd highly recommend Killzone. It's a greatest hit now and still has 100+ people playing online. (Not to mention good bot AI for offline practice.)
Circuit City had them on clearance for $9.99, if you get lucky maybe they'll still have a copy left.

I am OFFENDED someone is getting a PS2 and Disgaea hasn't been said yet.  Gran TUrismo 4 isn't as certain, but it definetely should be considered.

Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero, and Guitar Hero.  smile  Honestly, it is worth every penny of the extra $20.

A few of my other favorites (most of which have already been menioned):

-  Shadow Hearts series (both games are great, but Covenant is quite a bit better.  Helps to play through the first game to understand the full impact of the second.)
-  God of War
-  Final Fantasy X
-  Disgaea
-  Xenosaga (just the first one.  The second game is an absolute mess)
-  Tenchu
-  DQ8
-  Hot Shots Golf
-  Dark Cloud 2

A couple multi-platform that are must play's if you missed them on your X-Box:
-  Burnout Revenge
-  Lego Star Wars (I'd rent it though, as it can easily be beaten in about 8 hours)
-  Beyond Good & Evil

A few games everyone else but me seemed to love for the PS2
-  Metal Gear Solid:  Snake Eater
-  Shadow of the Colossus
-  Star Ocean III
-  RE4
-  Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2
-  Any of the GTA games

-Skip Radiata Stories.  semiconscious is like the only person who liked that game ever.

-Don't get Metal Gear Solid 3 either, wait on the updated version in March (Subsistence).

-Get Shadow of the Colossus, skip ICO.

-Dragon Quest 8 if you're a man (which means, if you like old school RPGs).

-Buy my Gitaroo-Man because I don't want it.

Dragon Quest VIII is the PS2's best game.  It should be your first purchase.  Period.

Lego Star Wars is a lot of fun.  I haven't seen any of the newer Star Wars movies, nor do I care to, nor have my sons, but we all have a great time with the game and my boys love the fact that they can play it together.

And I happen to have DQ8 for sale so you can even get it cheaper than new!

Wow, thanks for all of the assistance...I just hit print and plan to keep this thread with me when I shop.

Well the wife just scored me an EB-Games gift card for Valentine's Day, so that'll help with the purchase and the Xbox moved within three hours on E-bay. Looks like I'll be shopping this weekend.  biggrin

There seems to be a lot of RPG fans on this board. That's my main reason for dumping the Xbox, not enough of them. As I said, DQVIII is the first game I'll be grabbing since I'm off work on Presiden't Day, I plan on loading it up first thing in the morning and playing till the wife comes home for dinner (haven't done this in YEARS with a game).

Guitar Hero also looks intriguing. Is it considered lame if you're already a guitarist?

Farley, I may take you up on the DQ8, owning John Stewart's copy of the game sounds cool to me.

Keep the advice coming...There are a TON of games I've missed out on and I can really see myself locked away in a room for quite some time.
