whats suprises me is that 40 hours of consecutive game play would actually be a record, I figured the currrent record would be higher than that. Im thinking CeeKay needs to contact Guiness. Im sure hes posted new threads for at least 40 consecutive hours, probably on several occasions.

i hear you on that ceekay. i have a handful of achievements that wouldn't take more than a night to get and i'd rather be playing something else, even on the pc without some form of gs tracking.
i have a buddy who is pretty determined to get the 1100 though and has since gotten more of them than i have. at the rate i see him on live, he might soon pass my mp rank on the way to 50 too.

I'm on the final few missions now and I swear to God that Rockstar couldn't understand dramatic pacing if someone held guns to their heads. At this point, I'm all about closing it out, finishing a few other things, and then I'm done. This is the most overwritten, self indulgent bullshit-fest I've played... since GTA4. Fancy that. I love the atmosphere, hate the core game. Sigh. Another failure by Rockstar that others in the gaming press went ga-ga for.

And yet you played through the whole shitty thing until the very end. of course you have to play the whole thing through if you want to be able to rip on it with any kind of authority Basically. I've made complaints in the past about certain games and been roundly bashed with the caveat "oh, well you didn't play it enough." Aside from being a blatant achievement whore, I do genuinely love the Wild West and RDR got the atmosphere down cold. Riding around just doing things is what's fun. But the second the story kicks in, it becomes Days of Our Lives in Dusters.

No, it's more like Aesop's Fables retold by Ann Rand on Quaaludes.
There isn't one single story that has a happy ending, and there's a whole BUNCH of stories. It's nihilism despite success; I understand wanting grim, but really? John Marston was a loser-magnet.

The whole 'mission is going fine oh wait the car/wagon/horse has broken down' bit really annoyed me the other night. I just shut down the 360 at that point, didn't even pay attention to see if it might have been saving.

+1 I think, apart from weak parts in Mexico, the story was told very well, and the pacing was remarkable.

Neither really address the issue someone is having with the game. They're only used to refute the opinion of someone without giving any acknowledgment to the opinion itself.

Sometimes, but it is also true that people have made their minds up about a game ten minutes in or given up after an hour, and that is not enough time.

Sometimes they could be the same, but I think more often "you didn't play it enough" means that the game takes a while to get into. I see a lot of people give up on games while they're essentially still in the tutorial stage, and while a valid complaint may be that the game's intro is too long or uncompelling, I don't think it's far enough to judge the game itself.

Depends on how you "judge" a game - If you judge a game according to your own likes and dislikes, well, then its exactly as you say it is. If you judge a game based on its own merits, its genre, contemporaries and in general in comparison to other current games, then its more of a technical judgement, and not subject to as much personal bias.
I think what people react to is the strong words that people like WBS use about the game . I liked the game, a lot - that means, when someone says its "This is the most overwritten, self indulgent bullshit-fest I've played" I react strongly to the words, as of course was the intention behind the words.

That was nicely summed up, Raz. It's, of course, perfectly fine to judge a game based on your personal tastes. You're playing it, you get to decide whether you like it or not. But make your review or impression reflect that. Often, the comments will make the jump to categorically dismissing something as though it was a technical judgement (with some explosive language), when it's really personal.

the first of the paid DLC's are now available, called legends and killers.
for $10, you get all this: eight "new" characters from Red Dead Revolver nine new mp maps tomahawk throwing weapon
i would hazard a guess and say that this isn't going to be all that popular around these parts. even if you look at this as a map pack (which makes it single-handedly more of a value than the MW2 map packs) i don't think the buy-in is going to be very large.
which prompts the next question, who here is still playing this one at all?
