I just enjoy the visual of 15 year olds caterwauling along to classic jam band music.  The same 15 year olds who teabag me in Call of Duty 4.  icon_eek  "STUPID N00B, U'RE A TERRIBLE DRUMMER!  NO KREUTZMANN 4 SURE!"

I'd prefer you buy it, then sell it to me for 70% of retail cost after you develop an intense distaste for it.  That requires you waiting a bit to develop said distaste, please.

Grateful Dead. Blech.

+1

I'm somewhat amazed to hear people listen to GD without being stoned or completely drunk.  Maybe they are just praying for some of the residual LSD in their bodies to kick in.

Just because of the Grateful Dead optional download, or did those other 4 new songs fall flat for you as well?

New songs. And none of the DLC really makes me excited.  Not for 200.00.

What about for $50-80?  I wonder if most people are going to see the peripherals as an all or nothing sort of thing as you do.  If you don't like any of the songs, nothing will save the game for you, but if you thought the songs were ok then why not buy just your favorite instrument (or your GHIII guitar if you have one) and go online to play with people who have the other pieces?

Why do you feel like you'll buy either the full package or nothing at all?

It's going to be an interesting marketing issue.  I wonder how clear it will be to consumers that they can likely just buy the Guitar and game and get a similar, perhaps superior, experience to Guitar Hero or will anything less than the $200.00 SKU end up being perceived as a 'tard pack.

If you already have GH 2 for the 360, it shouldn't cost you $200.

Not that I'm bailing on my pre-order (Rock Band is still #1 on my most wanted list), but these track announcements did nothing for me.  Pixies are good, but that's certainly not the song I'd pick.

As far as playing an instrument while using the mic, you'd miss any cowbell and tambourine hits on the mic I'm guessing.

Just to check, would it be possible for me to just buy the game and guitar and play the game single player? I'm not interested in singing or anything like that, I just want to be able to play the guitar. I've never tried a Guitar Hero game, but I've wanted too and this has more appealing songs.

Yes. You can also play a single player campaign as a drummer, I believe.

There is a single-player campaign for lead guitar, singing, and drums.  They didn't add one for bass because they thought it would be too repetitive and would eventually get a little boring.

Yes, it should be a good choice.  Of course, once you've started down this road, a living room full of plastic instruments is soon to come.

Anyone else from the Boston area want to come to the Boston show with me in November?

Well, this sucks. Via OXM Podcast, Joystiq is confirming that the 360 version of Rock Band will have WIRED guitars (along with a wired drum set, wired mic, and USB hub), while the PS3 version will have WIRELESS guitars (along with a wired mic and drum set).

Doh!

However, you WILL be able to purchase wireless guitars for the 360 version, but NOT as a bundle with the game.

Joystiq also spent a whole article making fun of the review guide for Lair.  I find them to be fairly fanboyish and not worth reading in general.

it sucks that anyone wanting wireless controllers will have to miss out on the small savings you get from the big bundle.  personally, i've played enough GH2 with my wired Xplorer that i'm not too concerned about wireless, but i can definitely understand the draw for others.  my biggest concern is features i'll be missing out on if i don't get one of the new RockBand guitars (wireless or not).  it's unclear right now just how much difference being able to play notes on the second set of fret buttons without strumming will make, or how important the effects switch features will be, but if i have to strum every note of a ridiculous solo and can't play it because i'm using an Xplorer, i'll be little disappointed...

otherwise, my plan is to pick up the stand-alone Rock Band and use my Xplorer controllers to enjoy the guitar gameplay at release.  i may eventually add the drum kit, but i'm not sure how quickly i'll jump on that aspect of the game.

I'm okay with no wireless guitar in the bundle.  If the mic and drums are going to be wired, and they're giving you a hub, the net result is having one wire running across the floor versus having two if I had two wireless guitars (which would cost $$) plus the drums and mic.  Since I was planning on only getting the bundle and using my GH guitar as the bass, I would've had three wires, plus the need for extension cords for all of them.

As others have said, no wireless is fine.  Not ideal, but totally fine.

Besides, I wouldn't want to run the risk of picking up control tower interference from my wireless unit when we play our gig at the Air Force base.

Bummer, but certainly not a deal breaker.  All my play will be solo anyways, so I'm not too worried about cords running across the room.

First post on GT.
I pseudo work with Ron (different building, same company)

GH3 has a more appealing song list for me with a few exceptions.
I like classic rock a ton more than metal, but on GH2, the metal songs were the most fun to play on expert mode.  GH3 seems stacked with metal.  Raining Blood, Through the Fire and Flames...etc...

That being said, I'm more excited for Rock Band.
Some here may not like the Dead but my fiance loves them, which basically gives me a license to blow whatever cash I have at this game.

The entire Who's Next record as DLC?  That's completely badass.
5 starring the drum part for Tom Sawyer on Expert will be my quest.   Neil > God.

Once you get to the point where you're narrowly missing 100% on the first set of songs on expert and easily 5 starring the harder ones, the replay value bottoms out. Songs become easy, at least on guitar.
RockBand adds drums, which mechanically are completely different than guitar.  This is a game that'll last for at least 2 years with the first month or so playing it almost non-stop.

The biggest detractor from getting Rock Band for me is, I'll be getting this on the PS3, because I don't have a 360.  Since you can't play cross platform online and most of the people I work with have 360's, I won't be playing with many people I know.

I should buy a 360 ehh?
