Harmonix has announced the new game they've been teasing - Rock Band Blitz for XBLA and PSN, coming this summer.  The gameplay looks similar to Amplitude, Frequency, and the handheld Rock Band games.  It will be compatible with all previously-released Rock Band songs and it will come with 25 tracks of its own, which will also be playable in Rock Band 3.  I've always loved this style of game (even moreso than the plastic instrument versions) so this sounds awesome to me.  Hopefully, they'll have export options to make it compatible with the on-disc RB songs.

meh, I was hoping for a game that used their plastic instruments.  I'll probably try the trial version on XBLA but I'm not very excited at all.

The gameplay looks similar, although the Blitz video showed only two "notes" for each track, rather than four.  There are actually a lot of games like this, including Harmonix's own Frequency and Amplitude, Rock Band Unplugged, the DS versions of Rock Band 3 and LEGO Rock Band, the DJ Max series on PSP, etc.  They are really fun and get incredibly hectic at the higher levels.

hmm, I'm mixed. I wanted an updated frequency/amplitude, but not sure I wanted it to be a rock band unplugged XBLA edition.

10 bucks, maybe. will try it first. Though it's pretty awesome it works with all my rock band songs.

To me, this is the greatest part of this. I pay a small fee for the game and I get to use the hundreds of songs I already have with it. Makes it seem like quite a bargain and I really loved the PSP version of the game.

no disc based Rock Band 3 songs can be brought into the game?

Quote
However, you will not be able to export the disc-based Rock Band 3 tracks into Rock Band Blitz, since they don't reside on the hard drive. Asked whether Harmonix was working on an update to allow import of disc tracks as an option, a representative told us, "We don't have plans at this time."

I just picked up "Love Shack" by the B-52s.
“One Week”,  “Pumped Up Kicks”,  “Jungle Boogie”, “Cult of Personality” and “Jessie's Girl” are enough to make this worth it for me.

It's out today (on PSN).....who's getting it??

I think it looks pretty dang cool and I'd get it anyway just for the 25 songs for RB3. It's getting pretty good reviews so far as well.

For those getting it on the PS3, it's up!!!

You need to search for it on the store since the store hasn't properly updated yet, but it's on there.

I'll be getting it later tonight/early tomorrow on 360, since that's where all my songs are.  Giantbomb did a Quick Look and the game looks like great fun.  Unfortunately, rather than having goals to earn in-game like in RB3, you have to use the Rock Band World Facebook app for goals and to compete against friends' high scores.  I'm not sure how the friend-making process will work, but I'm assuming you'd have to be friends at least on Facebook and maybe XB Live friends too.

Same here.

I hope that this game does sell well which will keep the DLC coming for hopefully a long time to come.

Two gripes: the DLC discovery at the start of every play session is a little long.  And I'm not convinced there's a perfect control setup.  I feel like I'm button mashing through anything but the simplest routines.

Fun, though.

I got it for both the 360 and PS3. I have all my DLC on the 360, but I do have RB3 for the PS3 (got it for $5!) as well and it acts as a cheap dlc expansion for RB3....so I got it for both. Your welcome, Harmonix.

As for my impressions....one word....addicting. It has breathed new life into my DLC! In fact I haven't even tried out the songs in RB3 yet. I love the goals and the leaderboard chase. I've made several new friends via the RB World facebook app....and my friend leaderboard is the largest it has been since the heyday of RB2. I hope the game does real well for Harmonix.

played the trial and it was pretty fun, but I wish they had made the note buttons the left and right triggers instead of LB/RB, LS/RS or dpad/A.  still going to grab it anyways, at the very least having the songs in RB3 will be nice.

I pla with bumpers as notes and triggers to switch.

dangit, I meant to put in LB/RB in there.  I just noticed that 'freakish' lets you use the triggers (not sure how I skipped over that one when cycling through), but I'd still rather have the track switch on the bumpers.  I know, there's no pleasing me biggrin

Played for about an hour and I have mixed feelings.  The game is fun but the focus on high scores, is for me, taking away from the enjoyment of the music.  I'm constantly looking for what instrument track to switch to get the most points and maybe I don't have the right powerups but it's almost too much to focus on.  If I like playing a certain part of the song on guitar but I need to switch for more points it takes away from some of the enjoyment.  Sure I could just play what I like but the leaderboards are there to remind me.  Too bad it isn't more like amp/freq.
