Is there anything that the Squire can't do that the Mad Catz can, or the other way around?
The price is going to be the determining factor...

Well, the Squire can be played as a real guitar, so there's that.

Well, the Mad Catz is wireless, and the Squire is wired. Since the Squire is an actual guitar, there's some maintenance that comes with that like replacing strings. Also, your fingers are going to hurt like crazy for a while after starting with the Squire, and won't with the Mad Catz.

IMHO the Squire is only good if you think you may be using it as a gateway to practicing real guitar or if you want to try and see if playing on a real guitar would be any fun. If you only want to use it as a game controller then I would just stick w/ the Mad Catz one. As for myself, I think playing on a real guitar might be fun but I don't want to spend the money on any old regular guitar and then take guitar lessons and then figure out that I don't really want to do it. Buying the Squier and Rock Band 3 gets me the fun factor of playing a real guitar in a game and determine that way whether I'm cut out to learn real guitar playing or not.

OK - I think I'm going to go with the Mad Catz. Probably cheaper, wireless and I already have a real guitar if I wanted to get back to that. This way I can avoid the finger pain and still play the game at a new level. Thanks, kids!

I might be the only one that's really looking forward to the game who isn't that much interested in pro guitar mode. The interface improvements and cymbal charting are enough to get me excited.

I'm interested that the Pro mode exists. In my wild fantasy, I'll try it and really take to it, then practice diligently until I'm able to play in a black turtleneck in a pub where a crowd of people snap their fingers in appreciation. In reality, I'll try it once and never go back.

Personally I counted 37 songs I would buy at $2 apiece if they were DLC.

30 songs that I know I like makes it worth it for me; they'd cost 60 bucks as DLC so anything else would be a bonus.

Day 1 purchase for me. There's plenty there that I like. I stopped 2/3 of the way down the list when I hit 20. There were several more that I was interested in.

Hmmm... I think I would actually buy less than 10 songs on that list. There are more that I wouldn't mind playing, but I wouldn't have paid 2 bucks for them. And there are at least 5 to 10 songs I'll be avoiding at all costs.

PS3 Keyboard bundle not available in USSome sort of trade agreement. You can still buy a keyboard and the game, but no bundle. They're trying to take care of pre-orders, at least.

A lot. I read on QT3 that the base Fender costs around $250, so then add in all the modifications required for RB and it will probably be at least $300.

I would doubt it at this point.
The price of the guitar is really disappointing. I was hoping for 200. AFAIK you still need to buy the midi converter anyways. so it's going to be another 40 to whatever the price turns out to be. So if it's 300 we're looking at 340 before taxes. Freakin ouch. Not even my drum set was that much.
