News here: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/08/06/post-gothic-risen/#more-2259

FAQ here: http://www.worldofrisen.de/?section=article&id=28

There's not much info out yet aside from the obviously translated FAQ, but I'm highly anticipating this.  From interviews I've read it seems Piranha Bytes learned their lesson from Gothic 3 and should make this one more similar to Gothic 1 and 2 (smaller world, more hand-crafted).  Interesting to note that there won't be any orcs in this game (and no elves or dwarves as with Gothic).  It's nice to get away from traditional fantasy.

looks interesting, but the real question is can they release a stable product, or will it end up like Gothic 3 where you have to wait months for patches to fix problems?

Ha.  The patches didn't fix the only deal-breaking problems I had with Gothic 3.  One of my biggest gaming disappointments, and since Risen will be made by the same devs I won't hold my breath.

Considering the awesomeness of Gothic 1&2, I'll give PB a pass on Gothic 3.

Absolutely.  Two of the best RPG's of all time, imo.  By now the graphics will look crude, and the controls are admittedly unusual and at times obtuse.  But if you can survive past the first hour or four it takes to learn them you will be lavishly rewarded.

I absolutely loved Gothic 1 and 2.  I have 3 but never got more than a few hours into it.  I really need to apply the community patch and get back to it one of these days.  Just to be a "completist", really.
