So, another game I must have missed on the Xbox 360, although it's now "Evolved". And it's now in Early Access on Steam. Any chance this thing is worth the $5.99 USD they are asking for it?

heh, just posted about this in the old Fortresscraft thread.  funny thing is it doesn't seem to show up on their search engine yet, it must have just gone live.

Yup, I found your old thread, but since this is the "Evolved" version I figured I should start a new thread since it appears to not be the same old game ported to PC.

I'm tempted to give it a go, I've had good luck with early access projects this year.

That has got to be the dumbest reasoning for convincing your self to purchase a game.

I like how you think.

OK, never having played the game on the X360, I was pretty lost, especially since this is in pre-Alpha.

I did do some building, played around with the copy/paste tool, and made a few custom blocks (I think they are also called Detail blocks). In the image below, those are just three custom blocks, each made of nine standard blocks.

The menus are pretty atrocious right now, it's a lot of overkill on the clever objects. Rule One, once the player has seen your clever menu graphics, give them a simpler way to get back to where they were. I'll be posting that on their forum.

Also, the map on which you are playing loads slowly, in bits and pieces. Take a little while to figure out where you left off. Again, pre-alpha, so not really expecting too much.

So is this just EXTREME Minecraft Creative Mode?  It looks neat but part of the appeal for MC for me is that you have to work for the materials you use.

A few more shots of the customs blocks I made. One block is a 5x5, the other is an 8x8, which is the largest you can make in the game. You build them in workshops and then they are available as custom blocks that fit together like a normal 1x1 block. Interesting points are that both are hollow and include window blocks so they are partially see through. Also, there is no required symmetry for the types of blocks used; this is shown by the "JT" I built as part of one wall.

I did try building a custom block using other custom blocks, but it didn't let me do it. Either it's not allowed or I made a mistake while constructing it.

Yeah, I was wondering about that as well, as I have played a lot of Minecraft in Survivor mode. So far FC:E is like creative mode in MC, but I'm only an hour into what is a pre-alpha, I'm sure there are a lot of bells and whistles to come.

Here's another example of their Detail blocks (aka custom blocks). These are three 8x8 custom blocks next to each other, forming a nice table.
