Apparently it's going to be Steampunk/Fantasy based, which just sounds more awesome than I can begin to imagine -- as long as it doesn't turn into Rise of Warcraft.

I have to agree with Ebonstone... these rumblings of a steampunk theme make it very high on my list.  (it would have been high anyway mind you, but this makes it higher still).

Wow, I'm just thrilled to see them take the game in a different direction.  It would be easy to just do it all again on a different engine with a few upgrades/new units, but to go off into a different reality...  Now that is exciting!  I usually don't follow games too far off, but this is one I will keep a keen eye on.

Well, at least I have something to look forward to next spring.  Too bad that is so damn far off.

I can't wait to run elves over with my tanks, and drop bombs on them with my zeppelins.

Dang.  A whole year.

I wonder how long BHG has been working on Rise of Legends...

Although the new theme looks pretty cool, I'm enthused just to have word of another RTS from the team that made Rise of Nations.  That's such an incredibly well-balanced and fun game, they could have announced a game that pits the Poopitrons vs. the Vomitorians and I'd be interested.

Some helpful info from Gamespot:

Quote
We'll also have to wait a while for the game itself. Reynolds said they started development on it shortly after Rise of Nations shipped, and they worked on it alongside the Thrones & Patriots expansion. So the game has been in gestation for a while now, but the team is currently aiming to ship it next year. That should give Big Huge Games the time needed to finish, and it also lets publisher Microsoft stagger the release of two of the biggest strategy games on the horizon: Age of Empires III, which should ship later this year, and now Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, which should ship sometime in the first half of 2006.

Rise of Nations was awesome, and I have confidence that Rise of Legends will also be.  Looks incredible.  This and AOE 3 have me fondly remembering the epic AOK and TA battles I had with my buddies years back (sadly they're not much in the way of gamers anymore).
