It was a good 360.  It loved to laugh, enjoyed scenic vistas and made beautiful music.  It's life was cut suddenly short by a sudden Fall Sickness, and after several days on life support it let out it's final gasp, flashing it's three red lights and then fading away.

Quote
Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet 360,
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!

 crybaby

The coffin is on it's way to my workplace.  I am debating whether or not to grab a core system and sell back whatever they send me as a replacement.  In the meantime Gears of War and Call of Duty 3 shall gather dust.  On the bright side dealing with MS support only took about 5 minutes (mostly me misreading the teeny tiny serial number on the back of the 360).

Well, looks like I'll have time to play Final Fantasy XII now, even though it feels like I am just settling for it as an alternative to play.

What I meant is I'll make sure the replacement they send is working OK and then take it to EB for trade/cash, or maybe make it a X-Mas present for one of my friends.

I'll be happy to play them for you while yours is getting fixed.

You will want to call and get a tracking number on that coffin.  Same thing happened to me, except they told me about a week later that they no longer send coffins and that it got entered wrong.  You can see my ongoing thread about it here.

I'm planning on doing that.  From what I've read on the XBox.com tech help forum it looks like they are only doing it for consoles manufactured in 2005 (built date on mine was 11-5-2006) as part of that 1 year warranty extension.  I posted an update in to post over there but it seems the moderators have deemed not to post it so far.  Basically I said the suggestion given by King didn't work, outright killing my console and that I thought it probably had something to do with the Fall Update giving the ability to use the 1080p resolution.  I really wish I had copied it to a text file before I hit reply.

Sorry to hear about your 360. I hope things work out in the repair process. Hopefully you don't get the run around like Arkon did.

Wow, my 360 just died as well on Monday.  Had it since day 1.  Been trying to get a repair order for it since Tuesday.  They have all my information in the system, but are unable to send in the order since their system is being "upgraded" for more than 48 hrs now.

That sucks   :icon_sad:  It's like an insult to injury with that system upgrade going on... gl to both you and Ceekay's systems.

There are a lot of reports that the latest dashboard update that came out a week or so ago (1080p feature, etc.) is causing people's 360's to die. I should know. Mine was bricked by the update and has to be replaced.

Just to add, my dead Xbox had nothing to do with the update since its not online (no high speed after moving 9 months ago).

Damn. I just bought my new Xbox 360, and I'm seriously considering getting a replacement via my Best Buy warranty in about 10 months even if it still seems to be functioning properly. It looks like many don't make it past a year, and knowing my luck it will crap out 1 week after my warranty expires.

nah.

I can't believe that my launch 360 is still working perfectly. The failure rate of the launch consoles has got to be huge at this point.

And now that you said that, it'll break tomorrow. I hope you're ready.  icon_biggrin

So, I picked up a core system tonight that will be a XMas gift for a friend.  Figured I'd test it out for awhile to make sure it wouldn't die right away, so I may see some of you online sooner than expected  icon_cool

Update:  The coffin arrived yesterday and is going out today.  Apparently they sent it out Monday or Tuesday as it was sent via UPS 3-Day Select, and going back the label is marked UPS 2nd Day Air.  In the instructions they say any pick up service fees will be paid by them too.

Today I received the replacement unit.  It looks like it's brand new (still had the stickers on the faceplate and no scratching/oddness).  Fired it up, let the update run and played some Superman Returns (in case it decided to eat the disc I decided to play it safe).  Looks like everything is good, but only time will tell.

Total turnaround time: 22 days.
