And cheaper than $300

Joystiq news

In a PS3 vs. Revolution holiday war, the Revolution will likely kick ass on price alone.

This is a GOOD move by the Big N, but I seriously doubt if the PS3 will be out by Christmas this year.  E3 should tell all if anything

I have all Nintendo's crap. Doesn't mean I have to like it! I'm the kid who keeps putting his hand on the stove.  biggrin

Doubtful.

Still... cool, at least one new toy this year, maybe two if the PS3 makes it.

Yup.  I'm a huge Nintendo fan, but that won't stop me from admitting that the Virtual Boy was an eye-strain causing pile of crap.  slywink  Individual systems and games should be judged on their own merits.  I actually like all the main systems out right now, which is surprising to me.  smile  But hey, makes for a plethora of gaming!

IN!

I can't wait.  The other two consoles I'll probably buy at some point after the price drops but I may actually have to preorder the Revolution.

Maybe they'll release a $199 core version of the Revolution with a wired version of their controller?

Sounds good on the surface.  I'm a little concerned about the "under $300" though.  When I see that, I automatically read $299.99, which I just can't see paying for a console.  Which would be a shame, because I really want in on this one.

I thought the rumors were putting the price at $150.  I believe Nintendo said it would be significantly cheaper than the other two, and I wouldn't say $300 fits that description.

I'd say it's about 75-25 chances of being $250 or $199 respectively.  $150 = you're dreaming.

I'd really like to see the system launch at $200 or less.  Over $200 will be highly disappointing given what so much of the hype regarding the system's low cost has implied.

I just could care less about this. It doesnt sound like any real sort of improvement compared to the other two systems, and the games they have been putting out still are not enough of a draw.

It better be cheaper than 300$

No Hard Drive, No third party support.

Lets be honest we all buy Nintendo consoles to play the new Mario and Zelda not to play the new madden. A niche market, and they have already thrown in the towel in competing with the 360 and PS3 proclaiming 2-3 times more powerful. Its not ABOUT graphics!! LOL...

Maybe not in Japan.. but most of us are graphic whores.

I will buy one at launch depending on the launch titles... if there is a zelda or new mario Im so in I can taste what she ate last night, if not Ill wait thank you.

After playing the 360 now in HD, Fight Night... NBA live.. The revolution is going to look pale.

I want one, but Im skeptical there, I said it.

I also believe that Microsoft has stolen some of their Downloadable content thunder.

There will not be a hard drive, so you will be limited, and I will bet my uncles nester's hairpiece that they are not planning an infrastructure as elaborate as Xbox Live.

Actually, I think the Revo's going to have great third party support. You're just not going to find ports of 360 and PS3 games, for better or for worse. I really can't wait to try a FPS on the Revo. I wonder if the system would be powerful enough to pull off the HL2 or Doom 3 engine. God, I'd love to play Prey on the Revo.

Well the Xbox had ports of both Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 and it was a bit more advanced than the Gamecube.  The Revolution is projected to be what, 2-3 times more powerful than the GC.  I'd say it could handle those games alright.

One of the advantages of having no kids and a fairly well-paying job is that I will be able to afford both a 360 and a Revolution to satisfy my desire to play all kinds of games.  slywink  As noted, the Revo will have 3rd party games, just likely not ports of the big 3rd party titles on the 360 or the PS3.  I mostly own Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles anyway, with the exception of the GBA/DS which have fantastic 3rd party support.  Most of my 3rd party titles I currently have are on the PS2 and X-Box.

Agreed. I'd still be happy with a $199 launch (though of course cheaper is better) but anything over that will be disappointing. Even more so if they take the Microsoft route and offer various launch bundles based on system/controller functionality.

I'll still preorder the darned thing though...

Since Res Evil 5 will be on the 360 I have less than zero interest in the Revolution.   The PS3 I will have.  Whatever year it arrives.  I actually hope it does not come out this year.  Gives me more time to recoup from the expense of the 360.

Nintendo Shares Rise on Report Revolution to Sell for $300  (story here.)

Shares of Nintendo Co., the world's biggest maker of handheld video game players, had their biggest gain since July 2003 on a report its Revolution console will sell for less than $300, undercutting Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360.

As for the No HD thing, it does come with 512 flash, that I believe all reports state is removable. So that would imply that I could plug in a 1 or 2 gig stick or more when it's available/affordable.

We only have 5 more months of waiting before we get all the details. :-(

I've been a fan of nientendo up until the cube.
When sega consoles were revolutionise the industry I stood with the N dogs. PS1 in all I was all 64. and so was alot of people and industry.
Then came the (then next gen) PS2, XBOX and then the Dolphin AKA Game Cube.  which had about twice the amount of games the 360 launched with for the first half of its life. Not impressive at all.
Then they come out at E3 2k5 talking about revolution.
Revoulution:
Internet access
The new one hand controler
DVD player with
Download all of past N system libary.

Where is the Revolution?
Internet access. Dream cast started this Xbox made it perfect and 360 added an extra layer of icing on the cake. No revolution here
Download and emulator for all of the big N past games.
I get them on PC for free and Live have retro games too.
DVD player with attachment? been there
The one hand controler anyone with kids or disney movies knows it is nothing new the second disc you get with these DVD  try one you will see what the arrows on you DVD remote is for and enter or sel to punch shoot ect.   no revolution there either.

They should just sell the damn thing for $50.00 espically if they are going to charge you for all the retro games you download.
Hell $300 is to much to pay just for Zelda.

Could you imagin Big N going software like sega and Atari?\
Mario, espically Mario cart on live, metroid, Zelda on the new gen(real next gen.) system sales will be thru the roof.

Any how I will buy a revolution when it comes out because The big N is great to send the kids too when the big boy are playing game could get pretty roudy. They should change the name to the ......NTM.
Neintendo's time machine.

Its like mike tyson going for his championship titles back.
We love to watch um read um but aint no one risking beting on um.

Love peace and hair greace  Tongue
 FLAME ON

You are certainly allowed to make spelling mistakes.  This is the internet and spelling and grammar are not exactly priorities.  But spelling mistakes and inaccuracies?  Either you've read nothing about the controller and genuinely believe it works like the arrow buttons on a DVD remote or else you're just being silly.

Either way - please try again.

There's plenty of good reason to be disappointed with Nintendo this generation, particularly if you picked up the Cube at launch and bet on it alone for all your gaming needs. But I don't think you can play the "hate the hardware, love the software" game with Nintendo. They are NEVER going to be a third-party publisher. As people so gleefully point out to Devil, they make plenty of money even while seemingly out of touch with what us "true gamers" really want. And as I so often point out, just because Coke and Pepsi do so well, there's no reason for Dr Pepper to close up shop.

$300 would be too much to pay, just for Zelda, but with new Nintendo hardware comes all the attendant other franchises, even if some think them stale. I only viewed the GameCube as a first-party console this gen, and I'll do the same with the Rev (unless Ubi, EA, et al really do exploit the possibilities of the Revmote).

A $300 price point and simultaneous launch with the PS3 would give me pause, and I'd probably put the money towards the Sony, but I'll definitely get one, and most likely regret not getting it sooner.
