RESISTANCE 2

I just got my latest GameInformer and its cover feature is Resistance 2!!!!!!

Checking it out now... will update. (didn't see this on first two pages so assumed it hasn't been posted)

EDIT 1: HUGE cooperative game... EIGHT-PLAYER story-driven campaign along side single-player campaign. SIXTY-PLAYER Competitive modes... HUGE United States Landscapes as backdrops.

EDIT 2: "It is, in short, a tour de force for the untapped might of the PlayStation 3"

EDIT 3: Narrative stays with Hale the whole time... not Rachel. Hale shot down in Iceland, escapes to US and becomes part of program called Sentinels...

EDIT 4: Chameleon.. Stalker with total cloaking ability

EDIT 5: Overcoming stigma that boss encounters don't work in FPS games..

EDIT 6: Eight player coop over PSN, two player local

EDIT 7: CLASSES! Unique character with one of three basic templates... tank with heavy weaponry, special ops for distance (bullseye modified with zoom), medic

I'm READING FAST!

http://boards.ign.com/ps3_general_bo...7131205/p1/?13

I cant make my own thread, stupid gaf mods., someone make a thread!

Awesome sounding improvements on a great game.

*EDIT* Also classes are being added to the game

Also:  again... 60 players online. want sense of epic b attle.. dont want fast-furious gameplay to be focus, more focused on squad v squad.

will log into smaller four-to-eight man lobbies for each squad... encouraging communication and camaraderie, squad will be tasked witha particular objective. careful level design aims to deliver intense combat zones or small team conflicts that flow within arena of larger battle.

EDIT 12: Dedicated gaming community with stat servers for faster matchmaching than any console game of 2007. full-featured profile pages through myresistance.net will incorporate social networking concepts. open clan and party system to encourage community...no player invites needed.

EDIT 13: Aiming to deliver mobile-phone-quality sound.

EDIT 14: Futher tapped power of PS3... more enemies onscreen, better AI, better lighting and shaders (SCREENSHOTS LOOK AMAZING!!!). More comples normal mapping and detail mapping combine to deliver textures that look amazing from afar and at extremely close distances.

EDIT 15: AI getting a lot more attention.. will scaled on-the-fly to players perspective and viewpoint... aka enemies cloesr to the player will actually have more spohisicated AI routines than those further away. assailants in your direct field of view received heightened intelligence. easily more cunning than before

Holy crap!  8 player co-op?  Probably 2 players a system, but that's really great.  That means there's even bigger battles.

How they describe the online modes with players grouped into squads, with each squads having smaller objectives sounds cool.

3 base classes, probably some loadout differences.

Not sure what that mobile phone quality sound is, probably meant for the voice communication in the PS3.

That sounds pretty neat.  Now if BluRay will just win the format war, I'll get to play this!

+1. I loved Resistance. Much better game than most shooters out there. I think it blows the Halo series out of the water.

Can't wait.  Loved the first one.

Also, I believe this back's up some of Surfer's Girl believability.  She had a level list of Resistance 2 quite some time ago that included the Iceland opening and bulk of game taking place in the US.

How representative is the Resistance demo of the actual game?  The demo didn't grab me much (though I didn't get very far in it), but after hearing what the sequel has in store I'm starting to think I should give the original another look.

The game defiantly gets better as you get farther in regarding level design and variety.  But if you hated the demo I doubt you will love the game.  To me the best part of the game is the weapons.  The story is solid and the levels while very linear, are well thought out.  The relative lack of enemy variety and some of the "hit the glowing weak spot" boss battles are the only things I didn't like about the game.

Resistance is still arguably the best multiplayer game on the PS3.  Unfortunatly most of the ranked games are all set up for one hit kills at the moment.  I prefer standard settings, and those types of games can be hard to find.

Hmmm, I think you meant to write custom games, denoginizer.  Ranked games were never one-hit kills.

Ugh, the problem with Surfer Girl is that she (*cough* he) posts some stuff that's valid and some stuff that I know for a fact to be 100% false.  So every time something comes true, people believe all of it.  But I can promise you I've seen stuff that is completely untrue in every way on there.

This thread is kind of surreal. Why so much commotion for the sequel to an average/slightly above average game? I mean, I own a PS3 as well and want as many good games on it as possible but even with these new details from Game Informer we can't be sure the game is going to be good.

The only bullet point that caught my eye was the 8 player co-op and 60 player battles.  That's super.

Did you ever play the multiplayer portion?  Or did you play more than an hour of the single player campaign?

Right, because Insomniac is a developer who doesn't consistently put out high-quality AAA titles...and because Resistance is an "average" game that's just still one of the most-played multiplayer games on the PS3 and has an 87% on GameRankings.  Yeah, who says that the incorporation of two seperate campaigns, 8 player co-op, 60 player multiplayer, and random geometry that changes with every playthrough into an already proven game deserves commotion?  Jeez, why are we even excited?  Lock thread, please.

Really excited about this:

"Personal" is going to be a big word in Resistance 2. The game will have dedicated servers for gaming, community and stats as well as gamer profile pages on myresistance.net. In-game, the setup will be completely open when it comes to clans and parties -- the era of invites has come to a close."

Halo 3's profile pages were quite awesome, here's hoping R2 has roughly the same sort of plan...

Seriously, you guys should have thought about that when you came into the Live is down thread with your goofy comments.  I'm sure you meant those as a friendly jest just as I am sure ATB thinks the same way.  Anybody that goes all coocoo for one console at the expense of another on an internet forum just needs to grin and bear it when the shoe is on the other foot.
Remember, not everybody drinks the same Kool-Aid, and some of us drink multiple flavors. When someone comes in and jokingly disparages your console of choice in a thread, maybe you should just stop taking things so seriously and laugh about it.  Or at least whip out a funnier come-back....

As I said I'm sure Resistance 2's graphics will be amazing. Personally I thought Resistance Fall of Man's graphics were pretty amazing too. That is a given. All I'm saying is that pretty much all AAA FPS's on PS3 and the 360 will have great graphics these days.

If you want to compare I guess the inevitabale Gears 2/Resistance 2 would be a better comparison since both games will be the second iteration on the same console within 2 years of each other.   I'm sure they will both be amazing.
