They are not kidding with that 'all star cast' business.  Holy crap!  Check out the video for a glimpse.

Hmm, I'm not sure that I would classify a cast list that would be at home on "Dancing with the Stars" or "The Surreal Life" as "all star" but it does fit well with the B-Movie tone of the C&C series.  I do like the inclusion of JK Simmons, Peter Stormare, and Jonathan Pryce though.

George Takei + campy techno-futuristic mecha Japanese faction = PURE GOLD!!!!111!!!1

Seriously though. He better be the head general or something, I want him to tell me, in a hammed up Japanese accent, to "Kill the enemies of the Emperor!"

And you just KNOW that Tim Curry is going to be some evil Soviet scientist or party-leader guy.

If they had gotten Bruce Campbell, I just might have bought 50,000 copies. But for Jenny McCarthy, I will buy 1.

I haven't enjoyed a C&C game in years. There's nothing in the gameplay footage or impressions/interviews that I've seen that really makes me think this game will be any different. But damn are they doing a good job of making me want the game anyway. As evil, non-gameplay-based marketing campaigns go, this is one of the best I've ever seen.

If the war bears don't do it, or the half-naked, busty, soldier dressed women, then remember the Six Flags advertisements. More Sulu = More Fun!

BTW, am I crazy, or was the original Tanya in RA2 not American and on the allied side? Apparently she switched the fence (well, Tanya does sound Soviet) and is now a Red. The Soviets had crazy Ivan or something as their commando.

Tanya was the hero unit for the allied side and is again for RA3 (Jenny McCarthy replacing Kari Wurher).  Apparently Natasha (Gina Carano) is replacing Boris (who replace Yuri) as the Soviet hero.  Crazy Ivan was the demoman who placed bombs on cows.

This game has me psyched.

It's like a return to the roots of C&C.

You have great and cheesy live action footage and the gameplay looks good to.  I hope they can got those actors to at least buy into the campy nature of the film instead of trying to keep them straight faced.

I looked at some leaked beta footage and it in no way looks like the twitch fest that was C&C3.  Units still die quickly, but there's actually time enough to actually watch and respond to the flow of battle, and even activate secondary abilities.  They have Generals/Company of Heroes style commander abilities, a co-op campaign, and 3 factions that look pretty different.  Love all the Japanese transforming stuff too.

I wonder if there's still the generic conscripts though.  I loved those guys from the original and sending out mass swarms to get squashed by tanks.

Got one!  Thanks for the heads up Ceekay!

My friend got into the beta already, and since we're both but RA2 fans it'll be fun to play the beta a bit.

Heh, yeah I suspect there wasn't as much activity as they'd hoped.

The beta is interesting.  It's a fun game, but somehow it's missing that bit of absurdity that RA2 had.

The most fun thing I've done yet is use the Allied Cryocopter to shrink some enemy tanks, allowing me to run them over with my own tanks.  Cryocopters are just plain fun, they don't do any damage on their own, they just have the cryo beam which can freeze enemy units after a time, making them slower and more vulnerable to fire.  If fired on for long enough they completely freeze the target, making it so they can be shattered in one hit by nearly anything.  They also have the shrink ray, as described above.  But, like a lot of allied stuff, a bit of AA will swat them out of the sky.

Infantry are squishy as ever.  Once tanks come out, infantry need to be put in the back of a fighting line to prevent them from getting squished quickly, especially against the faster tanks like the allied Guardian.  But, their numbers are significant enough that as part of a combined arms force they really help, even if they tend to die.

Buildings die pretty quickly in certain cases, if you break through a defensive line into the enemy base you can take out a lot of stuff with just a few rocket troops.

Apocalypse tanks at level 3 gain nuclear shells that blast apart anything.  Very fun, I leveled most of a base with just one of these.

As said above though, the game is missing a bit of the absurdity level that made things more interesting in RA2.  A lot of the more interesting abilities are gone in favor of more ho hum unit abilities.

However, there is more emphasis on land grabbing what with resources being all over the place.

If anyone needs a beta slot, I have my code from Kane's Wrath.  I generally don't beta test games I'm looking forward to, but if you guys do a good job, I'll have an even better retail product when it's released.  PM me if you want the code.

Edit: It's gone.

Speaking of Blimps, the old Kurov just isn't what it used to be.  I'm still trying to figure out how to use the things, especially since AA is so prevalent and the Kurov so slow.

bring the kirovs in large numbers and have AA aircraft.  I've found that Kirovs can handle most ground AA.

Yeah, in my brief stint in the beta I found Kirov's to actually be pretty damn powerful if you can catch an enemy off guard with them. They utterly destroyed the fixed AA emplacements in one base and then proceeded to wipe out everything on their own.

Ah, okay.  Perhaps the reason why they didn't work last game against fixed AA guns was that my opponent built dozens of turrets of all kinds and just kept popping them up everywhere.
