http://ve3d.ign.com/videos/40599/PC/StarCraft-II-Terrans-Wings-of-Liberty/Gameplay/Shoutcast-Battle-Report-1

Really fun little video to watch. One guy plays Terrans and the Others plays Potoss. I was rooting for the humans. Lots of exspansion and units moving and fighting. A well made video with a look at whats to come. I wish they were not releasing it in such a crappy way when it does come out. Sure looks fun.

EDIT: BTW is kinda long. maybe 10-15 min long.

Three years ago that would have had me really excited but it just seems too spammy and simplistic.  Dawn of War still seems like its superior and it’s a four year old game.  Also, the announcers were really annoying.

That said I’m a hypocrite and will probably buy it anyways.  icon_twisted

yeah i don't know how those guys can act so excited.  At one point one guy was speaking so fast he couldn't catch his breath.

In terms of actual gameplay, I don't know how they think this game will even be able to sit in the same room with Dawn of War II.  It's Starcraft all over again, almost exactly - alpha build or not.  That video actually made me much less excited for the final game.  Then again, it's Blizzard, and they probably could give a rat's ass about any competition.  They can release shit on a shit stick and it will both sell and review off the charts.

Nevertheless, thanks for the link, Daehawk.  The video was worth watching from the comedic value of listening to the announcers having orgasms over the survival of a protoss probe.

Well it does look just like the first one but for some reason it put a smile on my face. After such a heartbreaking season that is something at least.

Just reminds me of why I really don't like this style of RTS.  Give mew CoH and DoW2 any day.  I think I'll just watch all the cutscenes on youtube or buy the DVD, then read the story on wikipedia or something.

The Koreans can have SC2.

There is something to be said for old-fashioned RTS gameplay. While I appreciate and enjoy modern RTS games, there are times when I just want to slip back into old-school base defense and zerg rushing. Too many RTS titles these days have completely abandoned base strategy and the numbers game, and that has always disappointed me a bit. So I think Starcraft II will be a nice retro gaming experience that I'll have a lot of fun with.

That said, those announcers sound utterly ridiculous. I was laughing out loud listening to that guy desperately try to generate excitement over a skirmish between two scout units. STFU , you tool.

I found that I liked Worldshift as a tactical RTS game.  Small focussed squad, good co-op gameplay.  I want this in the US now. smile

they definitely aren't doing anything to reduce the micro so I won't be playing this, however the replay with commentary was entertaining.  I like that they have the client able to spectate so we can see what's going on for both sides and still see the fog of war as well.

My South Korean brethren in their Starcraft pajamas, eating their Starcraft cereal and watching Starcraft videos 24 hours a day think you're all way too cynical.  icon_razz

Personally, I think the days of unit-rushing RTSs is dead and gone. The problem is, all the various attempts to do something fresh within the RTS format have generally been underwhelming in the sales department (at least compared to Starcraft and C&C in their hey day). So it's probably a perfectly fine time for Blizzard to roll in, "old school," and take things over again.

Hmmm...

So what does that mean after 'Blizzard-speak' is translated into reality?  We'll see it by August 2010?

I know, I know... I've become such a  pessimist when it comes to Blizzard release times.   icon_neutral

Did you see the Q/A about plans to monetize battle.net?  Scary.  Hopefully they don't try a subscription plan.

That wasn't too bad, I guess.  I do appreciate that they are trying to show different units each battlecast.  That David Kim guy must be a total stud player though, cause he doesn't seem to lose.

I will of course buy SC2 despite my endless tirade of negative comments regarding it.  The biggest thing that scares me is the obvious disadvantage incurred by the player who falls behind on resourcing.  It may be my imagination, but it seems to be much more pronounced in games involving peon-pushing, as opposed to games like DoW or CoH that rely more on controlling points/strategic objectives.
