I just started the game and my default walk speed using the 'w' key is the same speed as when I use 'shift'. Am I not supposed to move faster when using the shift key? Am I missing something, or is there only one speed that I can move?
And what's the deal when I pick up objects in the train station? They magically float in front of me. Is it supposed to look like that?

you might want to look at your keymap and see what "walk" is bound to, if its bound at all.
and yes, when you pick up items they hover in front of you. interesting, considering when you hold a weapon it's actually in your hand.

The run and walk keys dont work until you get the crowbar. At least thats when I noticed them working.

Walk is bound to 'w'. Walk quickly is bound to 'shift'. I get only one speed when I use 'w' key, or when I use it with the 'shift' key. Shift does nothing to increase speed. I don't get this. All my other keys seem to work like they should. I tried remapping 'walk quickly' to 'q' and it does nothing at all. Is there only one speed to walk?
...okay...didn't see that last post until after I posted. Thanks. Man, I'm having fun just walking around getting tazered!

From what I see, there's only two movement modes, sprint and walk.
Walk is the default, there's no slow walk beyond crouch.
Sprint makes you go much faster, but it takes up your auxiliary power.
The normal walk is a decent jaunt that's not too fast or slow.

The sprint key (and flashlight) doesn't work until you get the HEV suit.
