I've got a new PC coming next week and I'm having a hard time finding out the details of how to make the switch on Steam.  Is there a way to do it that doesn't involve re-downloading all my Steam games?  I will be installing my current PC hard drive temporarily as a second drive to transfer things over and I am hoping I can just copy the game files over.  However, my techie friend doesn't think this is possible.  Anyone know?

There's a backup option in steam that archives your games allows you to re-install them without having to download the game files again.

However, it won't backup your save games/options/etc.

I've also heard that you can just copy your STEAM directory into your new one, but the backup option works well.

1.  Copy your Steam directory to the new PC.
2.  Delete the "ClientRegistry.blob".
3.  Run Steam.

It will do some updates then you're good to go.
