It looks like it`s FINALLY coming out next month on xbox(I think other platforms too). After watching some of the movies I`m starting to look forward to this one. It has a crazy look to it, and what appears to be fun platforming action w/ a twist. I`m thinking this would be good(if it gets good reviews and turns out good)for the wife and I to play once we finish beyond good and evil and BG:DA2. Anyone else looking forward to this one?

the demo will be in the next oxm magazine. i was dissappointed that the new psm only had a movie. i got excited when i saw psychonauts as "playable", but alas just a movie. this game has been forever in development. the wait is almost over. yeah!

I saw a scan of the front cover of the OXM (mine is notoriously late) and it said that Psychonauts got a 9.5 and labelled it the best platformer for XBox.

WOW! Devil, you were right, but it was an understatement, IMO - "lots" of character should read "tons"- i think the game reeks of creativity and character. i don't like platforming much, but this demo was pure fun - i felt like i was sliding down the rails and swinging on the various poles, etc.. not just watching. if you like platformers, you will probably go nuts over this one. the beginning section seemed a little goofy to me, but once you get on the wild ride, you forget all about that. the only caveat i would mention is that i didn't have any major problems with the jumping and swinging, and i suck at platformers, so it's possible that it could be too easy for real pros. but i only played the demo - couldn't put it down until i finished it, as a matter of fact - and it's a generous one, too (no Jade Empire 10-second one here.) it could be that there's a lot trickier stuff after that, or there could be difficulty levels - or it could just have such intuitive controls that the game will just be fun for all. i can't wait to find out!  |

Yup, I got my mag towards the end of last week and checked out the demo on Saturday. Definitely really fun, and the humor was pretty much what I expected from Schaefer!
Now to just find the money to pick it up and the time to play it!

Hmm the PC version is 29.99, and there is a 10 online only mail in rebate. I really want to try this, and I was going to go XBOX, but 19.99 is one hell of a deal. I really need to get that XBOX to pc usb converter thingy.

Psychonauts is already out? I'm planning on getting it for the PC and using my Logitech Wireless PS2 controller and a Playstation->USB adapter to play the game console-style on my PC!

Cross-posted from OO because it's late and I'm tired.
I got about two hours in so far.
It's good. Very good. The opening level is the same as the demo, so I won't go into that.
The next section is still mostly a training level. It takes place on a giant cube floating in space with mental censors attacking you. The melee censors hit you with giant "no sign" stamps. The ranged censors shoot them at you. There's also a big boxer censor that has brass knuckles that say "NONONONO". Great stuff.
Of course, there's tons of collectible stuff. The best ones are the memory vaults. Each one gives you a Viewmaster-style slideshow of some memory from the character's past. These are simply great. There have been more than a few that are genuinely moving. Really gives you an incentive to go find them.
The writing is straight, unadulterated Tim Schaefer. Not much more that can be said than that. If you liked Grim Fandango, the writing will be right up your alley.
Even if you're not a platform fan, at this point I'm ready to say pick this sucker up. It's pretty forgiving for the genre. If you lose all your lives in a mental level, you get kicked out to the real world, but can go right back in with full lives, and there's a teleport system that can warp you right back to the beginning of any major section. At this point, I haven't been overly frustrated yet. Can't wait to put some more time in tomorrow.
