I saw we had an official announcement earlier in the week. The original PR piece ( here) has some nice pics. The BBC has an article up on it as well. Looks damned nice to me! In case you missed the original article, here are the vital stats: Internal volume reduced by 75% Size: 28x2.8x15.2cm Weight: 900g External power supply Built-in Ethernet adapter The size of a hardback book with a built-in ethernet port sounds good to me! Now I'd love to see Microsoft trim the Xbox by 75%!

It's amazing how small they got it, agreed.
That said, I have HDLoader, and for that, I need a HD. Also, my PS2 still functions like it did day 1, when it was first released on the market.
Still, if someone had been on the market for a PS2, I imagine this gave them a little nudge towards the 'buy me' category.

Oh, I didn't think about the HD. How are they going to work that out? I guess Sony just isn't thinking the HD is a "must have" peripheral.

Oh, I didn't think about the HD. How are they going to work that out? They're not going to. They issued a statement that there wouldn't be a Hard-Drive available for the PStwo. They will continue to produce and support the HD for the regular PS2.

Stolen from another board...Allegedly you can trade in a PS2 or Xbox to EB for $100 credit, and then any 5 games (minus some sports titles, etc.) for a minimum of $10 credit. Then you have $150 credit and can just about get the new one. Sounds like a good deal to me, especially if your PS2 is old.

Whats the MSRP? My PS2 dvd drive has been somewhat skippy as of late, and I can think of 5 games I will likely never play again easily...
Are memory cards and controllers and all the inputs still the same size and fully compatible?

There were rumors that Gran Turismo 4 might be taking use of the PS2 HD. If this proves to be false, I will make an effort to sell my PS2 to get the PStwo. I love how small it is and I was suckered by the PSone as well. If Microsoft decides to release a smaller Xbox, god knows what I'd do.

I'd watch GT4 news like a hawk to make sure though.

Holy crap, those comparison pics are hilarious. I'm now interested. Space is a consideration for me, and this thing looks so small that it would be extremely easy to hide away, and to take to different rooms, or on trips. Plus I'd need a PSTwo to play GT4 and San Andreas right?

Hey are the cables all the same? Specifically, will the Svideo cable on my current PS2 work with the new thin one?

I really want one of those, but I have yet to play Final Fantasy XI, so I'll have to stick with my old PS2.

On the space thing, don't forget that it's a flip-top now, so you need to either allow for room to open it, or be willing to pull it out every time.

I am considering one of these, but I have never had a PS of any kind and I need to look further into the games available. All I have had is a Xbox and Cube and the Cube didn't pan out. Not enough games I like. I like this new small footprint but what are the triple A mega titles coming that will only be on the PS2?

Other than GT4 and Killzone, what is there that I can't get on my beloved Xbox? Anyone know. I would buy one if there were, say, 1/2 a dozen killer titles coming.
Oh, and I have never been a big fan of rpgs. Too much talking for my taste.

And just on the small offchance that your post was not a baiter, some titles in the near horizon: Ace Combat 5 GTA: San Andreas Devil May Cry 3 Metal Gear Solid 3 Gran Turismo 4 Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal Viewtiful Joe 2 But, if there's nothing in the current and near-future selection of PS2 titles that tickles your fancy like your beloved Xbox, then the answer for you is pretty much nothing.

GTA: San Andreas will be on Xbox.
I'm tempted to get a PSTwo though. My friend just got one and brought it over and I was floored by how small it is. It would fit on any of my Entertainment Center shelves so easily.

I picked one up last week right before my trip to MD. I had not seen pictures of it before and I was FLOORED when I took it out of the box.. I even emptied the box to find the rest of it. Other then the power supply, everything else is the same connections as the old PS2. The hard cover book comparision if very accurate. We took it on our trip and played it on the way donw (as well as watching Star Wars). I am a little concerned about the hard drive thing though. Besides GTA, I bought it for SocomII mostly and with the new maps coming out, I may be screwed. the guy at the store insisted that the maps will work without a hard drive, but the press releases I read said that the hard drive would be required.... I hope the guy is right, but I tend to have little faith regarding most of the store employees.

OK Rage, here's what I did: Buy five $2 used games, bring them and your big PS2 to EB. Trade 'em in for the little one.
DONE!

The deals for extra credit towards a new PS2 expire on the 30th of this month.
They will give you $100 credit for an Xbox or a PS2. Not sure what, if anything, they will give you on a cube.
They will give you at least $10 for up to 5 games for any of the consoles, as long as they are not annual sports games or really really old common stuff.
So if you have a PS2/Xbox + 5 games to trade, its a free new PS2. I did my old PS2, 4 games (Burnout 2/Xbox, Xenosaga I/PS2, Skies of Arcadia/Cube, Top Spin/Xbox) and paid just under $11 for mine.

Everyone is out of them. One EB near me sold all 15 in one day, same with my local Wal-Mart, 15 the same day they got them.

Do they actually have a list of games they don't take or is it up to each store? To answer my own question...yes they do Here is the link. I decided to go for it. As someone who bought his PS2 on the first day they came out I feel pretty lucky that I have never had any trouble but why push my luck? I trades in a bunch of games (PSOne, PC, etc.) and got $39 for them. Now with my current PSTwo trade in the new one will cost about $15! That is very nice

My EB got 4 in this morning. I got the last one Tell me if I did good on these pre-owned titles I got with it: Jak & Daxter ($7.99) Culcept ($11.99) Final Fantasy X ($12.99) Primal ($4.99) I pre-ordered San Andreas. Now all I need is to learn how to bend space and time to stretch earth days into 48 hour blocks.

Thats easy....
don't sleep!!!
As far as your games, good picks.
I thought Culdcept looked really lame but got a new copy for $10.
Let me say, best $10 I've ever spent on a game. So addicting and fun. Even if I want to strangle the computer every once in a while
