I keep thinking about picking up House of the Flying Daggers... but then I remember the price difference and the fact that I would only be able to watch it on the PSP...  I'm really thinking ripping DVD's that I own to watch them on the PSP as well is a better way to go.

Although if they offer a service where you can download movies for the PSP for a few bucks I would be more than willing to use that.  I remember reading somewhere that they have a service like that in Japan already.

I had a gift certificate lying around for Barnes and Noble and I ordered The House of Flying Daggers online.  Should be here perhaps Friday.

I don't know if I would have paid all of that money for it, so luckily I had a gift certificate lying around.  So I thought I might as well get another movie to watch besides Spiderman 2   biggrin

Best Buy has had Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Pirates of the Carribean for a few days. PRICED AT $29.99! When the DVDs have so much extra content (Pirates is 2 disks) and yet cost $15, who is going to pay so much for truncated, compressed proprietary media?

I heard some places like Circuit City and others are going to have pretty good sales on UMD moves . . . like around the pricetag of $15.  Not too sure though.

But here's an idea (maybe not a very well thought out one) - what if DVDs came with an UMD counterpart?  Like, say, buy the special edition of Pirates of the Carribbean and get an UMD disc with the movie on it with it for maybe an added amount of money.  Maybe not too practical money-making wise, but that would be a cool deal for us consumers.  Or not.  Just an idea.

Thats actually a very clever idea-they would have to price it higher, instead of the 15 bucks we often get or 20, it would probably have to be 25-30, but still, good idea.

I may consider buying one if I can get it for $20 or less, but I'm not going to pay more than that.  Paying more than I'd pay for a DVD for less content feels like a rip-off to me.

Anyone know if sony plans to use the UMD format for anything besides the PSP?  I mean, it looks like a nice small, portable disc that can carry a good amount of data.

Check out my deals of the week.  Target and CC have a bunch of 'em for $12.88 and $12.99 respectively.
