The new psp just got revealed (by accident on psn on qore... Great job yet again psn monkey.  Roll Eyes )

Video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ-EtvIhFRU

The interesting part is that it got same box art and font as the ps3 slim. smile

Psp looks good in the video but ugly on the pictures... Ps3 slim looks horrible imo.

Hmh, I wonder how it'll feel like to hold that PSP. It looks a little... awkward.

That screen had better be really light or it's going to be awkward as heck to hold on to.
Even so, I think the d-pad/face button placements are too low to be comfortable for extended use.
The analog also looks like it's over so far that it'll be uncomfortable to use.

Slick, perhaps, but maybe not designed to actually play games on...hmmm

First thing that came to mind for me as well.

Sony's MO for the PSP lately seems to be making it about everything but the games.  It's a movie player!  It's an MP3 player!  It's a phone!  It's an internet browser!  It slices, it dices, it makes julianne fries!!  I have an iPhone for all that other stuff - I just want my PSP to actually, you know, play games.  Is that too much to ask?

Yes, yes it is. How DARE you think you know better than Sony how you should be using your PSP!  retard icon_lol

Engadget has a few additional shots if you're curious, BTW.

Finally - would I grab this new PSP? My answer is the same if you'd ask if I want the DSi - heck no. My PSP1000 model doesn't get played - why would this new 'Go' model be any better?

Because once again that would be a PSP2, and not another model number of the PSP. That would be like what the DSi did - you can no longer guarantee that all DS owners have the same hardware, so your games at best will have optional features using what the newer model has.

EDIT: Can somebody please click on the Youtube link in the original post and tell me the title of the video? I want to watch it at work, but it's blocked - however, my cell has Youtube access. I just can't punch in a direct link and go there (gotta search for the title).

Nub placement is kind of crappy, but if it has much improved battery life over my original generation PSP, I will get it.  My PSP has been collecting dust until very recently.  Patapon 2 is great and I finally gave Monster Hunter 2 a try (very awesome).  Lots of stuff coming down the pipe.  I am actually excited about this platform for the first time since God of War and FF came out.

it doesn't really look any more awkward than the DS is to me. Every Model of the DS gives me hand cramps, the older, fatter PSP doesn't.

I hope they make a boatload of games available for download, I hate UMD's now. (and really, can we get a "transfer UMD to drive" feature? PLEASE?

How does Sony prove you own the disc? The only way I can fathom it is that they firmware update the older models so you then toss the disc into the drive and it'll make a copy for you onto the Memory Stick. But there's only one problem with that - how does Sony know you didn't just rent the game?

This absolutely will not happen, as badly as it needs to. I loved the speed increase of the games onto my custom firmwared PSP.

EDIT: According to the video link, this PSP will have 16GB of Flash based memory included. And you can connect it to your cell. Plus it has Bluetooth support. Interesting.

so this isn't the actual PSP2??,just an inbetween ?

IMO Dual Analogue would make it even more uncomfortable to hold, there was a time when all we used was a D-Pad,why is that so wrong now?..and the actual controls need to be at each side of the screen,no matter how big it gets..easier to handle, again IMO

it does looks good though,i am hoping that the sound when not using headphones actually gets to a point where i can hear it,i dont care if SONY are thinking of people around me...thats an arguement i will deal with,i dont like using headphones all the time, and i rarely use my PSP in public anyhow

and also, none of that 'hold to turn off'..you often find that when you come back to the PSP,that it was only put in standby mode, and yer batteries are flat..put the off button in the middle somewhere,so you dont accidentally turn it off

bluetooth integration sounds nice.  I wonder if it's the latest format where you can stream all audio, through a headset?

Sadly, as neat as it looks, they didn't do enough to this.  I'd rather they splintered their user base and created a PSP2 with basically the same guts as the PSP1, but with a touch screen, dual analog, etc...

Also, in the videos they say that they're keeping the 3000 model active on the market alongside the Go.

I just got a bunch of money with which to purchase a new mobile gadget and I'm honestly more interested in the iPod Touch right now.  I do want to get a new PSP, but there's just so much more happening on other handhelds.

I also have a feeling that the new ZuneHD will blow the PSP Go out of the water simply due to it being more forward thinking.

Huh, I never have a problem using the PSP speaker.  Headphones are often preferred just due to better quality audio, but I play mine plenty without them.

It does look more like a media/casual games device than a hardcore game system.  I could see where the setup would be nice for watching movies.

On the disk burning for UMD games, I could see where the kiosk idea could work.  It would have to keep the disk.  You'd put in the UMD, connect the PSP with your memory card.  It would tie the game to you PSP/PSN account, burn it to the memory card and keep the disk.  Ideally you could eventually redownload games tied to your account.  I'm not holding my breath though.

At UK Pocketgamer, there's an item and a working link to the portion of the Qore show about PSP Go!
http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/PSP/PSP+Go!/news.asp?c=13556 (guess you have to paste this in, the last portion doesn't work here as a link)

On the weight, he said it weighs 43% lighter than the current PSP-3000. The PSP-3000 weighs 189 grams/6 oz., and 43% is about 81 grams -- so Go! apparently weighs about 108 grams/3.8 oz.

People are so obsessed with home brewing at most PSP fan sites, I always felt like I was the last PSP user on earth who actually bought games on UMD to play. So this sort of seems like the right direction, assuming people don't find a way to pirate all the PSP apps/games/content on day 1.

As the owner of a first-gen PSP, it's intriguing, but I'm going to need more advantages for this system than its weight.
If there is some way I can download my existing UMD games onto the new system, perhaps. The price point should also be equal or cheaper than the PSP-3000.

Also, hopefully the display got an upgrade as well and battery life is now doubled because the UMD is gone.

I'm much more interested in the fact that Gran Turismo mobile is still under development and supposedly out this year (unless they're talking about PS1 Gran Turismo?)

I never play my PSP, but I have a lot of UMDs for it.  If there is no way to play those on this one, I will be 100% out (I'm mostly out anyway, do to the lack of a second analog stick).

It's gotta be cheaper, too.  And how easy it is to play/hold will also make a big difference.

Most likely, I'm not getting it.  If there is a way to get my current UMDs on a memory stick, though, I might be in for that convenience.

Assuming that it has a much better battery life, I am pretty much in.  Even if it doesn't play old UMDs, that doesn't bother me too much.  I actually like the fact that it will be all digital distribution and I look forward to be buy future games (Patapon 2 is awesome) via this method.  The smaller size is a big plus as well.  I will probably give my first gen PSP to my son.

If the PSP Go only enhances the non-gaming aspects of the handheld, I'm skipping it. If it doesn't have to do with gaming, it doesn't have to do with me.
